The Tenth Amendment Town Hall

Special Event: Tenth Amendment Town Hall
Exploring Solutions to Restoring Texas' Constitutional Rights

February 15, 2010 - 8:30am to 1:30pm - Plano, Texas

You are invited to a very special event hosted by the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC).

Trillion-dollar bailouts, record deficits, a proposed government takeover of health care, job-killing environmental regulations, and looming tax increases.  The excessive power being wielded over states and individuals by the federal government must stop.  The Tenth Amendment Town Hall hosted by TCC will serve as forum to explore solutions to both restore the constitutional rights of the State of Texas and its people, and to roll back the growing power and influence of the federal government.

The event will feature a keynote address by Judge Andrew Napolitano (author and Fox News Contributor), as well as remarks by nationally-prominent constitutional scholars.  Governor Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott will also participate in this event.

The Town Hall will also feature three panel discussions:

Now THAT'S interesting. Tough sell though, IMHO. The ONE thing I looked for they didn't put on their web site was what the demographics would look over time. Given that metropolitan cess pools have steadily gained population in relation to rural areas, how would the voting blocs change compared to what they are now? Would the generally more conservative suburbs pick up more representives by comparision? OR, would they be about the same as they are now? IOW, aside from having a rep closer to home and more accessible would there be any benefit to those that hold to traditional values? For my part, I would rather see the actual powers move back to the states where they were originally envisioned by the Founders.

Regarding the demographics, please look at this election map from the 2008 Presidential election.

I would not think of increased House Members in terms of a conservative or liberal pick up. (Although I think that based on the population BASE that votes GOP in presidential elections that conservative would fair better.) Increasing the number of reps is an issue of representation and freedom. The freedom index by state indicates that New Hampshire is the most free and California is the least free. It is no coincidence that New Hampshire is the State has the most representation in its lower house while California has the least representation in its lower house.

FWIW, and this is JMHO: I would rather we conservatives work within the present system to make the necessary “adjustments” than rework the system right now. It is certainly something to consider and debate down the road but for now I think most people would feel more in their comfort zones beating the loony left on the current playing field. If Americans are in fact waking up, we’re liable to see some dramatic changes as early as this year. Praying for the best, preparing for the worst...
