The Joys of Assimilation [Too Hot to Handle!]
Renew America ^ | 6 February 2010 | Tim Dunkin

Posted on 02/08/2010 5:48:41 AM PST by Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus

...In essence, what we need to be doing, culturally, as a nation, is to encourage the assimilation of all of our population to the American norm that made America the greatest nation on earth. Industry, self-reliance, respect for private property, respect for the rule of law, the importance of the traditional family unit, and a respectable moral system are the necessary props that help to maintain the type of capitalistic, individualistic, and prosperous society such as we once were. This is a touchy subject for many, due to the hyper-polarization about race and ethnicity that has been caused by the multicultural cult, and the charges of "racism" that seem to inevitably follow criticisms of black American culture and of the cultures of immigrant groups. To call for assimilation is viewed by many of the more hyperbolistic as "cultural genocide," which is of course ridiculous. I am not demanding that black Americans and immigrants to this country become carbon copies of white, middle class suburbanites. I am not saying that these groups should not continue to enjoy the distinctive products of their own cultural traditions — everything from foods and handicrafts to art and philosophy. I am, however, saying that there need to be normative assumptions about things like right and wrong and what is socially responsible and socially acceptable that are shared by all Americans, whether native or naturalized. There need to be normative cultural patterns that affect the way we interact with each other as a corporate body of citizens, things like respect for the law, family, and our national heritage. In short, we need to be Americans, without hyphens.

I honestly don’t care one whit about someone else’s ethnic or cultural tics, twitches, obsessions and neuroses.

What I really care about are the groping hands of the idle in the pockets of the productive. I care about criminals who are still alive and on my street. I care about some other prick trying to curtail my culture because of what he claims are the demands of his.

Unless you are invited, get out of my pockets, get off my lawn, and get out of my life.

The problem is that the opposite are the props that maintain the democrat party.

My great grandparents came to the US from Europe and they quickly gave up their traditional dress and language and learned English and dressed like their neighbors. The last thing they wanted was to remain culturally isolated.

While I welcome the cultural diversity that many immigrants bring, I am wary of those who would turn the US into a mirror of where they came from. This is the USA and seeing women in the streets covered from head to toe, while their husbands and sons wear western attire smacks of repression. That we even kind of tolerate child marriages, Muslim cabbies refusing to take service dogs in their cabs or Muslims at the grocery checkout refusing to scan pork products says we have gone beyond diversity. I resent having to print drivers manuals in multiple languages and that Spanish labels are on every product. We sadly are losing our identity as a nation all because of theis PC diversity crap.

My great grandparents came from Hungary in the late 19th century. Two generations later I remember listening to my grandfather speak Hungarian, in privet to one of his friends. He wouldn't teach my mom the language because he was proud to be an American. I don't feel I have lost my heritage because of this. We still cook Hungarian food and are proud of our linage. We are Americans first. And proud of our assimilation. I think my Great Grandfather would be proud.

You SHOULD care, because when a nation balkanises into a bunch of ethnic/cultural enclaves, then you don't have a productive society anymore. Why do you think your neighbour is going to give a rip about you, your property, or your pocketbook if your neighbour comes from - and refuses to let go of - a culture where the rule of law, private proerty, etc. are not respected? More "cultural diversity" means more people sucking at the trough - happens in every place where you have minority cultural groups that won't assimilate to the dominant culture in the country. Look at the Muslims all across Europe - they refuse to assimilate, but they have no problem living off of the generous welfare benefits provided by the UK and Sweden.

I am more concerned that 36% of the population has a favorable opinion of socialism.

Exactly. "Diversity" and "multiculturalism" are destroyers of the fabric that holds our culture together.

I have no problem telling arrogant, uppity and ignorant foreigners to GTFO, for their presence in my country dilutes our greatness and hurtles us towards 3rd world status.

The "live and let live" mentality is destroying our country. We must take a stand.

Did you ever stop to ask yourself WHY this is the case?
