Because, you know, it’s better to be naive and unorganized, so that when election time comes, NOTHING gets done! But by golly, we’ll still be grassroots! Without leadership, without direction, without organization. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
If the people who attended Tea Party events don't vote it will have nothing to do with naivete or lack of organization, and the peoples vote is all that counts.

I’m channel surfing, and have noticed that on all the cable news nets, everytime they do a segment from the TCC, they always allude to the supposed bug “issue” of the $600 cost to attend ( surprisingly, Fox also does this) And I suddenly had a thought. Remember the yearly DailyKos conventions..First of all, weren’t several held in (gasp!!) evil Las Vegas?..but what was the cost to attend..FReepers are great at research..surely we can find out...might be interesting...

Do you know how many TEA party groups there are in the United States now? Hundreds? Thousands? Each one doing their best to present the best candidates to their participants...but what happens if each group picks *different* (but worthy) candidates to endorse? Can you imagine the uselessness of that?
WE THE PEOPLE *need* better organization, around a central group—I just heard an interview on PJTV where the host said, the TEA Party is the heart/soul of the Republican party, and the two need to be reunited to be of most use—I think that’s true.
The speaker is addressing that issue right at this moment
man, I wish I was there in person! beats CPAC or even the RNC stuff.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 4, 2010CONTACT: Jordan@yaf.comYAF Executive Director to Speak At Tea Party National ConventionTopic: How to Involve the Youth in the Conservative MovementNashville, TN Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) Executive Director will be speaking at the 2010 Tea Party National Convention at the Grand Ole Opry hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Marks will join other leaders of the conservative movement like former Alaska Governor and Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily, YAF alumni former Congressman Thomas Tancredo and more.Marks will lead a breakout session on Friday February 5 from 11:15 AM 12:15 PM in Tennessee Ballroom D on the topic of How to Involve the Youth in the Conservative Movement. Marks has over a decade of experience working with youth activism, youth outreach, and grassroots campaigns.Marks said, It is an honor to have been invited to speak at the first Tea Party national convention. YAF is currently working with over a dozen tea party organizations helping them develop their youth recruitment and involvement. Marks added, It will be great to meet many of our partners in the fight for freedom in person and enable representatives from many other Tea Party groups across America with the knowledge on how to involve the next generation so they can go from being astro turf movement to a grass roots movement.Young Americans for Freedom is the nations oldest, largest, and most active conservative / libertarian youth organization. YAF was started at the estate of William F. Buckley, Jr. in 1960 to uphold the principles of the Sharon Statement. To learn more about the Sharon Statement and YAF please visit www.YAF.com.
The opposition likes the Tea Party movement better when it is just everyday people, too, because we as individuals don’t have the clout that a “led” movement does. The only thing we have to be absolutely sure of is that WE the movement PICK OUR OWN LEADERS and NOT LET ANYONE IMPOSE LEADERS ON US. We DO NOT need a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton surrogate usurping OUR leadership through willing accomplices in the media, or otherwise!!!
yes YAF is a very worthy organization. i attended a Leadership Institute conference two years ago and two of my classmates were MSU students who got attention from Hannity/The O’Reilly Factor after crazy activists attempted to jeopardize Tom Tancredo’s speech about the dangers of illegal immigration.
The focus of this convention is great and exactly where it needs to be: grassroots activism, youth involvement, etc...My only worry is about the media “journalists” and leftist infiltrators who might also be sitting in and learning about the kinds of ways Conservatives hope to take back the country.
That's exactly what is being expressed at this Convention.
The opposition is quite aware of the power of the millions of us "just everyday people"
That is why the MSM doesn't cover what is happening in a positive light.
The continue to lie and distort the TPM.
Every time the Tea Party Convention is brought up on cnn, etc they have to mention that Palin is making a hundred grand for speaking.
The don't bother to mention that she is not keeping the money for her own use.
Heck, there are people here on FR that have bought into the MSM spin.
At least has posted on this thread.
At least ONE has posted on this thread.
Sorry, left out the word “one”
I hope that's not true. The like minded independents and even Democrats who are part of the Tea Party Movement do not want to be the "heart and soul" of the Republican Party or, mostly, of any party.
The quickest way to lose the enthusiasm of the grassroots is to have them dictated to by some "leader" and I haven't encountered a politician who knows how to "lead" any other way.
I don't see a lot of primaries where there is more than one real conservative running, but if there are, great. Let the people decide. I'm not afraid of that. I'm much more afraid of people who have shown there lack of conviction by being politicians for decades, trying to show the grassroots, who still maintain some integrity, what road to follow.
The strength of the Tea Party Movement is its diffusion. Eliminate that with organization and "leaders" and you loose the whole movement and also provide the opposition with the usual defined target.
There can be no Tea Party convention as there is no Tea Party, although it is possible to have a convention of Tea Party Activists. As long as they leave the "convention" with the same independence as they came with it should cause no harm.
It is extremely difficult to curb the need some people have for power by organizing and "leading".
