"Kennedy took the election with a very narrow margin over Johnson"
I think it is this phrase from the original post that mixed things up --- in those days the nomination was all decided at the party convention. Yes, Johnson surely expected to thrash Kennedy at the convention but it didn't happen that way at all --- Johnson was not able to expand his base support much at all and lost 2-1 in the delegate tally (806 to 409) .... the convention wasn't close at all.
Chicago and the actual election was a very different story, of course, and it is hard to doubt that the Daly machine created large numbers of fictitious votes for the Democrats, per the usual practice.

Maybe Marcia can help him out.

“X” was 25 years. The Franklin half was only made for 16 years — 48 to 63. But the Kennedy half dollar was approved by an Act of Congress, so I do not see how it was illegal.

It would be a huge victory if we could unseat both Patches and David Obey, one of the lead Pork Barrel kings of Congress.

Most records to be released in 2017 - last deadline used to be 2039, I think that’s when the Unix clock resets - seconds since Chappaquidditch or something.

I meant to say that Johnson was chagrined that someone so young and inexperienced as Kennedy would get the Pres. nomination and leave him with the VP nomination on the night of the primary election.

...a new poll showing U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy losing ground as he faces a well-financed GOP foe backed by Browns top strategists. I see fingerprints. :)

Ok - the Franklin half should have been produced for another 9 years. So a bullsh*t law to benefit a Kennedy was passed. Maybe not illegal, but highly questionable.
The Franklin should be put back in circulation.

That explains why Patches called the Brown victory a joke which Brown said was a mean spirited comment. Kennedy is running scared and I couldn’t be happier.

Wow, so Rhode Islanders are slowly waking up as well? I love it! Outstanding! I hope the Kennedy dynasty is enjoying its last political breath.
