WASHINGTON With no clear path forward on major health care legislation, Democratic leaders in Congress effectively slammed the brakes on President Obamas top domestic priority on Tuesday, saying that they no longer felt pressure to move quickly on a health bill after eight months of setting deadlines and missing them.
The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, deflected questions about health care. Were not on health care now, he said. Weve talked a lot about it in the past. He added, There is no rush, and noted that Congress still had most of this year to work on the health bills passed in 2009 by the Senate and the House.
Mr. Reid said that he and the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi of California, were working to map out a way to complete a health care overhaul in coming months. There are a number of options being discussed, Mr. Reid said, emphasizing procedural aspects of the issue.
At the same time, two centrist Democratic senators who are up for re-election this year, Blanche L. Lincoln of Arkansas and Evan Bayh of Indiana, said that they would resist efforts to muscle through a health care bill using a parliamentary tactic called budget reconciliation, which seemed to be the simplest way to advance the measure.
The White House has said in recent days that it would support that approach.
Some Democrats said that they did not expect any action on health care legislation until late February at earliest, perhaps after Congress returns from a weeklong recess. But the Democrats stand to lose momentum, and every day closer to the November election that the issue remains unresolved may reduce the chances of passing a far-reaching bill.

They just want ALL Americans to die!
I do not believe them. This is still their priority, they're just biding their time, trying to bribe some Republicans, or doing it in a different fashio.
fashio=fashion
Hit on one side it spins to the other, hit front it move back.
The “professional” and “unbiased” writers of the article are just “dying” to find a way to push this through .... accepting any excuses or methods to get it rammed through.
I’m with you on that one. They are too devious to trust anything that comes out of their mouths.
Kind of like saying hitting the brakes is the reason the car stopped
AFTER it smashed into a bridge embankment head on.
“they’re just biding their time, trying to bribe some Republicans, or doing it in a different fashio.”
Yep
Shame and stocks need to be brought back to the public square methinks.
Bullsh!t.
The Rats are desperately trying to move the public spotlight AWAY from Obamacare.
Behind the scenes, they are working furiously to twist arms, make payoffs and make whatever bribes and threats they need to squeak the Senate bill through the House on a razor-thin party line vote.
Simultaneously, there will be a second bill amending the original Senate bill passing the House and Senate by reconciliation and therefore needing ONLY 50 votes plus Biden, to get rid of the Cornhusker Kickback, the Louisiana Purchase, maybe the Florida Gator-Aid and other things, and add back in the Stupak language (which the left will swallow for now, overturn it in future years).
The Rats need for the media and the public to focus on other things while they work behind the scenes, because the American people dont want Obamacare and the more people learn about the substance of the bill, the more they dont like it.
If the Rats can pull it off, it will happen very quickly and under the radar until shortly before the vote.
I strongly suspect that they HAVE the votes, and they are trying to figure which 9 senators don’t need to vote for it - they will allow Nelson, Landrieu, Bayh and six others to vote “no” on it.
Bwahhhhahahahahhhhhhaaaaaaa! ROFLMAO. Nice dig, Times! (Though I know it's just an angry slam, thinking if they had only worked faster, you'd have your moment like that woman at Clinton's inauguration: "Those are our healthcare providers and insurance companies now.")
This just means that they not only don’t have 60 votes, they don’t even have 50. HAHA
“He’s dead, Jim!”

The roof fell in on them in Massachusetts. I never saw so many sinners get religion so fast...
Did they ever say what the rush was all about in the first place? Now they’re putting the brakes on? Something’s up.
