The health ministry in France has issued a warning after eight people died and seven fell sick in two European countries from using heroin contaminated by anthrax.
"Since December 6, there have been 15 confirmed cases of anthrax among heroin users, 14 in Scotland and one in Germany," the ministry's General Directorate for Health (DGS) said in a statement.
"Eight people died," it said. "The likeliest source is heroin contaminated by anthrax spores."
Most of the casualties had injected the heroin, but others also inhaled it or smoked it.
Anthrax is a potentially lethal bacterium that exists naturally in the soil and can also occur among cattle. It is also, more notoriously, a potential bio-terror weapon.
The ministry said the contaminated drug may also be circulating in France and other European countries.
"There is no outward sign or colour enabling the user to tell whether the heroin has been contaminated by anthrax, and contaminated heroin dissolves or is used in the same way as uncontaminated heroin," it said.
I am conflicted by this one.

I know there is not a lot of sympathy, when it is heroin users getting a dose of a potential bioweapon. But whether we like the victims or not, they are citizens, and this is potentially the first sign of another round of anthrax attacks.
Just like, don’t play in the street, don’t wee wee on the wall socket, don’t do the smack there’s things in there that WILL KILL YOU..

Anthrax spores are famously hardy. Supposedly able to survive thousands of years in complete lack of moisture, but to survive burning is amazing.

Considering that it most of it comes from Afghanistan, the idea that it might be biowarfare can’t be excluded. But this doesn’t give enough info about what is mixed with the heroin. Is it refined anthrax spores? Or as it occurs naturally? Is it bound to soil? I’d like to know.
Why interfere with darwinism?? Its nature, let it take its course.. Let the stupid people die.

I don’t believe that there are that many Heroin smokers.
It is most often injected and next most common is snorting followed by smoking (last I read).
In the past at least it was too expensive to smoke (too much of your expensive drug lost to smoke that did not get you high).
What may be happening is that some heroin is being added to marijuana as are a lot of different drugs to increase the high.

How funny..! For years efforts to combat the supply side have failed: the profit motive remains, indeed intensifies for remaining suppliers after their competitors have been eliminated; new suppliers rush in to fill their empty seats.
So why not go after drug demanders: but so many of them, right? Like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole.
Thus: SOMEHOW introduce an element of doubt in the minds of the many drug demanders.
What would they do —go to the authorities, or a QC lab, asking for a HEROIN PURITY TEST? Impossible. Order an in-home ANTHRAX TEST? Again, impossible.
So they came simply TAKE THE STUFF, thereby making a truly cosmic roll of the dice; the really committed addicts will do it (but then they’d die anyway).
Result? Deterrence of casual users, who are not yet fully hooked.
The perp:
1. Someone who hates heroin users
2. Someone who hates westerners/infidels
3. Someone realllllly progressive about anti-drug efforts
4. Someone with access to anthrax & heroin
5. Someone very short-sighted
Seems like the heat from either cooking for injection or smoking would destroy the spores. But... perhaps not.
This has been tried for decades if not a century with out success.
If AIDS does not deter heroin users I don’t see why this would unless people were dying by the thousands in the streets.
Actually, that’s *exactly* how it’s done.
Someone did this in Santa Cruz many moons ago only it was strychnine in cocaine. This was to eliminate the “narcs” getting too close. Allegedly it DID kill the officers but the cocaine was still distributed and a lot of people got sick. I don’t remember the end game; maybe because I wasn’t part of the game and not a user.

Its gotta be a CIA Plot to kill all the drug users. You can also bet Bush and Cheney are behind it too. LOL
I hope that they can trace the ORIGIN of the anthrax spores, because I’d certainly hope that they were naturally occurring and NOT some sort of contamination by some deranged terrorist biochemists who’ve set up a mobile lab somewhere in Poppy Land.
