If you love politics, then you were fascinated by the happenings this week in the Hawkeye State. The legislative session opens, Tea Partiers protest, gay marriage opponents protest, Governor Culver delivers his State of the State speech, fundraising numbers are released, and a GOP gubernatorial candidate mocks Sarah Palin....
"I can't see Russia from here like Govenor Palin, but I can see South Dakota and South Dakota has figured it out." -- Iowa GOP gubernatorial candidate and Mike Huckabee ally Bob Vander Plaats, mocking Sarah Palin
(Excerpt) Read more at examiner.com ...
I don’t think we need to be THAT thin skinned. It was light humor...I wonder if Sarah would laugh. I bet she would. She has a sense of humor.
Sure, but perpetuating a lie is an obnoxious thing to do.
MOCKING MY ASS.. Mike V and Sarah BOTH have got a sense of humor UNLIKE this Wash DC rag of a paper.
The headline is misleading; no mockery here.
I would suggest the mocking the leading GOP political figure in the country is not a very good idea for someone running for a GOP nomination, but we shall see how the voters of Iowa see it. Worse to use slams that Gov. Palin never said, show him to be far to influenced by the MSMediots for me to ever vote for him. This comment is like a neon sign flashing RINO.
I think we do need to be “that thinned skinned”. The comment, by the way, was never made by Palin; it was an SNL smear by Tina Faye. Any candidate who is so poorly informed or is willing to try to make political hay by perpetuating a leftwing smear needs to be stopped. We already have enough politicians with R’s after their names like Van der Plaats.
Are they mocking Sarah Palin or some hack actress on NBC?
I agree.
It’s not so much that it’s not funny because it’s about her. It’s more like it’s not funny because it was done to death at least a year ago.
Ding,Ding.We have a winner!
Agreed. Add "Mike Huckabee ally" to the mix and I see a problem.
Republicans mention Sarah Palin in anything but a positive tone at their own risk.
You, know some FReepers actually believe that she said that!
Exactly. It was Tina Faye who said that, not Sarah.
Sarah merely pointed out that she knew something about defense, since as Governor of Alaska, a state from which you can actually see part of Russia, she has a direct interest in defense.
I don’t know if this guy meant to mock Sarah or not. But he should have known that it would be taken that way. And he should have known better than to make jokes out of left-wing propaganda memes about someone else in his party.
NOT a class act.
i have a sense of humor, but it’s not funny attributing a quote to Sarah when istead it is a quote made by an impostor who is a washed up comedian.
Same as people who make things up that Rush supposedly said and didn’t. A lie is a lie and spreading lies keeps them alive.
I also think it was intended be be humor, but didn,t come off as such. Humor is 10% content, and 90% delivery. BTW, you CAN see Russia from Alaska. Sarah’s statement was factually correct. However, the media tried to say that she said that she could see Russia from her house. Not that they have an agenda....
Which is just sad.
Let’s see...we have a political ally of Huckabee, making fun of Palin.
I find the irony, hilarious.
Some time ago, a libhole here in the office was mocking Palin for saying she could see Russia from her house. I explained to said libhole that Palin didnt say that, that it was Tina Fay that said that as part of a Sat Night Live parody (that CNN did not fact-check). I said that what Palin said was that you could see Russia from Alaska. The libhole scoffed, claiming that statement was equally ridiculous. When I explained that a US island is only 3 miles from a Russian island in the Bering Strait, any you can in fact see Russia from Alaska, she got the deer-in-the-headlights look and insisted I was making it up. I won 20 bucks.
Sorry.
With all the vicious personal, unwarranted attacks on this woman, I have lost my sense of humor when it comes to jokes at her expense.
Every night that brain-dead philandering Twit David Letterman attacks this poor woman.
This idiot candidate should pull the corn out of his ears.
Hope the jerk loses.
Republicans - they always eat their own (unless its a RINO).
Fair enough...can’t argue with your post one bit.
FReepers actually believe??? Prove it Mike.
He's mocking the hack actress, but he, like most people are probably too clueless to know that. ;-)
Bob Vander Plaats has a distinct odour as the perenial candidate aka loser....
Ditto. This is a political compaign, not a DC comedic roast. This dummy has just alienated a goodly portion of his base. Too bad there is no State Conservative Party to run a candidate against this unmentionable.
That’s not mocking Palin.
Hey, we can't all be geniuses like Mika B, who in attempting to scoff at Gov. Palin, let loose that she thinks Lincoln was a Founding Father.
You are right, in a way. The Rinos in the GOP had best get some brains and skin or they will be skinned. I would not vote for this idiot because his statment shows he is out of touch with real change we need to make. No wonder he supports Huck, the Rino who set loose murderers and rapists on innocent people because...it felt good. No brain involved. No skin in the game.
there is an upside..van der asshat has outed himself. what a jerk.
it is absolutely disgusting to see R’s violating RReagan’s 11th commandment
fortunately SP looks like she will not take the bait.
SP will focus on issues, policy, and problem-solving her detractors try to kick up dust about frivolities
How is is NOT mocking? When Tina Fey did it, was she not mocking Palin? I believe she was. So was Vander Plaats. The fact that he was Huckabee’s Iowa chair in 2008 says it all.
