The Posse Comitatus Act has traditionally been viewed as a major barrier to the use of U.S. military forces in planning for homeland defense.[1] In fact, many in uniform believe that the act precludes the use of U.S. military assets in domestic security operations in any but the most extraordinary situations. As is often the case, reality bears little resemblance to the myth for homeland defense planners. 3 million divided by 50 states is 60 thousand per state.

I suspect the majority of these "troops" would desert the ranks if they were told to open fire on American civilians.

...And the hard-core "troops" who shoot US civilians will eventually be destroyed by the justifiably angry civilian population.

When the shooting does finally begin? It will be Americans versus obamanistas, just as it has always been in the debates at the local water cooler.

American military personnel will not shoot fellow Conservatives, but the obamanistas probably will.

However, the obamanistas will meet the same fate as Napoleon's troops did when they shot the civilians in Spain.

The Conservatives will defeat the obamanistas if it does come down to a Nationwide shoot-out.

Pray for America! Obama is the opposite of Reagan and I don’t expect him to do anything to reduce the power of the federal government. They know their back is against the wall and they will LOSE BIG in Nov 2010. So, I expect them to do everything possible to bring socialism to America before then.

The obamanistas will be destroyed if they open fire on American civilians.

I just cannot see how the Conservatives in the military would open fire on the US civilian population en masse. If orders like that came down, I could see massive disobedience and desertions. There would even be Juan Martin Diez types in the ranks. Diez led the guerilla forces that eventually threw the French out of Spain.

Regarding the resilience of an angry and cornered civilian population, even Hollywood has noted that civilians turned guerilla fighters will defeat a hostile and invasive force once the shooting starts:

friend of ours is fedleo. He once said he’d never enforce illegal orders upon US citizens. My reply was that the orders would come under dire circumstances. What if the economy collapsed and there were no jobs? Either obey orders or you are fired and maybe prosecuted. How many, with good values now, would sell out, knowing they need to feed and house and clothe their family? His gaze turned away and he essentially had no reply. That is what will happen to many LEO minds should things go very badly. Self-preservation kicks in.
