Well I was talking about the dem congressional win that went with Obama that made it look like a mandate(more on that in another reply ). That is what backfired because it raised publics expectations that Obama/Democrats would produce..., even republicans here thought that more stuff would pass,
Back in 2005 I had many arguments with MD libs who claimed Bush didnt have a impressive victory, and similarly I pointed out he increased Republicans in congress. Unfortunately January 2005 was their (our) peak, every day after that got worse for us. And I posted many times that January 2009 was the democrats peak.
Obama having a 'huge victory' in 2008 does not have the same meaning to them now as it did a year ago. A year ago it was sweet to them, today it is torture to them, like that song 'Ironic'. In fact to taunt liberals here when I say "You won a huge victory and then you...". You should see the pain on their faces, then they try to blame republicans for Obama;s failures. Politics is not linear, it is cyclical.
If they all voted NO they would need only 41. Maybe that's what you meant to say.
Yep, immediately after I hit post while it was in front of me on the screen. Frustrating to watch.
Sometimes I think even if they had 61 the Republicans woukld not do the right thing, though.
You are getting there. If they had 61 they would do the wrong thing. When they have 39 they do the right thing. It’s politics.
This is the big problem we have that contradicts the simple ‘win and fix it later’ narrative that is popular here and that Levin post. I am convinced we need 49 or 50 till something changes.
Think you for the additional comments. I enjoyed them.
Haven’t heard about Curran - who was he, and why could he affect both Kennedy’s?
(Not that either was a “religious” Catholic: adulterers, lying, politically-motivated in all ways. Pure CINO’s by birth, and convenience for Mass voters.)
What I was thinking of with the Obama ‘mandate’ was that he promised many things that were not possible to deliver.(this is what made it fun after the election.)
One of my favorites is health care. Early this year polls were showing most americans supported : covering the uninsured, eliminate pre-existing conditions, lower our premiums, cut the deficit. Who wouldnt? So dems were saying American supports Obama.
Now we have a bill with personal mandates, increases premiums, raises taxes, increases the deficit... along with bribes to certain states. So it polls toxic.
Those other things were not all possible at the same time.
The voters have never-ending faith that some new guy will come in and fix all these problems.
RE :”You are getting there. If they had 61 they would do the wrong thing. When they have 39 they do the right thing. Its politics”
Actually the worst case is a republican president with 51 votes in Senate because he wants to sign big reform bills.
Charles Curran. Priest of the Diocese of Rochester. Professor at Catholic University from early sixties to 1986. Pro-abortion, pro-contraception, etc. Leader of the dissenters from Humanae Vitae in 1968. Finally denied mandate as a “Catholic” theologian in 1986, by Ratzinger.
Dead ???? LOL. This country was dying long before Obama took office. I was a Levin fan for many years and he tries to keep his audience worked up emotionally using simple narratives. The last year or so did it for me, with the Bush failures.
Certainly we want this health reform bill to fail to get passed, my real hope because this bill is crap. But right now it(the Senate bill) is politically toxic. Democrats are in a corner where they have to pass a piece of crap that even the liberals, yes 'the left' that Levin rips daily , hates. This one promise(with the failed stimulus and the war) has destroyed the Obama liberal dream.
What was completely missed by the simple talk radio narratives (which was easily predictable) was 1) Public backlash to Democrat overreach and 2) All the problems McCain would cause with a democrat congress. I already included you on some posts on #2 so I wont repeat them here.
Another talk radio alarm bell ringing a 1 year ago and more that I was poo-pooing was: as in Levin's talking points that I posted ,he said Obama would ‘shut down’ talk radio. This was just silly ‘work up the audience’ stuff. Didnt happen under Clinton, couldnt happen under Obama.
I appreciate your thoughts, dont get me wrong. You are not alone.
I’m not convinced the U.S. Public is as stupid as folks make them out to be. I know they seem to have bought on to Obama’s nonsense, but what choice did they have?
It was one whack job or the another this last time. I think they were wrong to pick Obama, but both parties make bold claims about the other and most people just tune them out.
To this day folks think Clinton was the victim of a right wing hit job. They don’t realize who his Uncle Buddy was, and what types of people he was associating with in Arkansas, and the games being played down there.
They simply couldn’t fathom that Obama could be that bad. And yes, it’s their fault for not studying up enough.
I’m not convinced that the majority of U.S. Citizens want the government involved in anything that touches their lives. Most people hate government down deep inside. They want the government to address their pet project, but when it comes anyone elses pet project, they hate government.
Yes, Obama had all the answers on November 1st, 2008. Today he hasn’t got a single one.
As you say, it’s interesting to see the left so let down by his ineffective leadership. This guy is primed to take a massive fall from grace. It’s underway, and I think he knows it far better than you and I do.
