ABC News: Americans Are Hoping for More Layoffs [SRM spin alert]

Ever since President Obama took office with his merry band of Democrats controlling both chambers of Congress, the media began reporting high unemployment in the most positive light they could find.

NewsBusters exposed one such trick by Newsweek on December 10 that found a silver lining for unemployed dads to reconnect with their children. ABC News posted a column on their website Thursday that advanced the cause even further: now people who still have jobs are hoping to get laid off.

Such was the case made by one Michelle Goodman in a piece cutely titled "All I Want For Christmas is a Layoff." The premise for this bizarre headline was that many Americans began to realize they were working for "slave wages" in jobs that were far too stressful, so perhaps the recession offered a chance to start over.

It’s hard to believe they are still trying to spin this. WHen the layoffs first hit hard Instapundit.com had cited some spin articles that referred to ‘funemployment’ featuring quotes from people who were gleeful about losing their jobs.

Stupid airhead.
This dame ought to be layed off - then she can write another column in 6 months after looking, but not finding, work. Tell us about stress then, moron.

Largest Rise in New Business Creation of the Century Under Obama

The Obama administration can be credited with the largest creation of new entrepreneurial activity the nation has seen since the start of this century. New businesses and community organizations are being created at a blistering pace and many Americans are realizing their dreams of cutting the corporate ties and becoming entrepreneurs for the first time.

Green Technology

This gentleman has begun his own successful carbon-neutral recycling business:

We will be seeing more and more people becoming active in green technologies
such as this as people become increasingly conscious of the fact that our previously
profligate and wasteful consumerism had to be reigned in.

Gender/Culture Sensitive Entertainment Industry

These ladies and gentlemen have begun their own successful entertainment service:

They are gender-neutral and both sexes will service clients regardless of their sex and/or sexual orientation!
People are becoming increasingly concerned with sensitivity to sexual diversity and diversity in sexual preference.

Biotechnology/Pharmaceuticals

This enterprising young gentleman has left school early to embark upon
a new career as an independent pharmaceutical and anesthesiology consultant:

There are many examples of Americans leaving the 9 to 5 world and creating their own businesses -
this is becoming more than just a dream under the Obama administration.
It is an exciting time to be an entrepreneur!

Gee, I guess that during the Great Depression folks were having a merry ol’ time in the soup lines.

The LSM reaches a new low every day.

I’m hoping the US economy tanks completely and that unemployment skyrockets to 25 percent. It’d be worth it if it insures the defeat of the Dems in 2010 and Obama in 2012.

I believe the sentiment of wanting to be laid off is real, and widespread. THIS is the fruit of socialism, it is depicted in many works of fiction, they just now come to life before our eyes. From the earliest days of this nation, socialism...communism reduces humans to their basest form....lazy, jealous and grasping for what other have, or have earned.

"Why would anyone work to pay for the slackers not working when you can sit back a be a slacker too?"

I've been layed off for a year come January. Still collecting unemployment and my Cadillac medical insurance plan is 2/3 paid for by you the working folk. I would rather be working, but this is not a bad life as I'm still making more then I spend. And I'm putting my time to good use, preparing for what could come next.

There was an article in some magazine a month or so ago about the rampant poverty in North Korea being great for amorous teenagers because there are no lights.

These people are unbelievable.

Not true, at least in my case. My wife was layed off a week after I was last January, she is still collecting full unemployment to. And we have at least one female friend that has been layed off as well.

Guess what? With the dinosaur media in a pre-recession tailspin, now a death spiral, they may get a chance to experience the liberation of the unemployment line first hand.
