re-importation makes no sense....we subsidize drugs that get sent to Canada b/c the Canadian gov. has socialized medicine and price setting so how would bringing those drugs back make them cheaper? It wouldn’t....the cost to make the drugs isn’t any less just b/c Canada won’t pay it so we’d be subsidizing drugs for them and then paying to bring them back. The fix is to stop subsidizing in the first place and the question is: is that morally/ethically right? Of course the real root problem is Canadian socialized medicine in the first place.
If it makes no sense, then no one will do it.. so, why make it illegal?
If drug companies agree to sell to Canada at prices lower than they do here, then... third parties will make money on the difference. In the long run, the drug companies will stop this practice... cause they know it will ultimately hurt US sales.
The idea is NOT that the drugs cost any less to make... re-importation is simply a mechanism to keep the prices more or less the same everywhere... which, will force countries with socialized medicine to pay the same that we do.. or else, forego the medicine.
