Palin has supported the McCain amnesty. In the 2008 Univision interview, Palin supported an amnesty:

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Stephen, I have no dog in this fight. I am not a Palin person. And she is not an elected official, with any chance to vote for or against it, so I think she is a marginal player at best. All I know about it is I saw her tick off the Univision anchor big time. It appears to me that she has not yet thought through the entire mess, because it has had little or no impact on Alaska.

Rather, the Senate bill will be an exercise in taqiyya or dissimulation, an attempt to deceive the public into believing that the supporters of legalization will vigorously enforce new, tougher immigration laws in the future once the current illegal population is amnestied.

Just like the 1986 amnesty law did.

The post says Shumer is going to introduce it. Your logic leaves much to be desired.

Schumer has been "going" to introduce this legislation since the spring of 2008. He announced in July, 2008 he was going to introduce it after Labor Day. He was "working" on "introducing" it again in December, 2008 and in March, 2009. I can't imagine why you would insult me gratuitously over something like this. My "logic" might be undesirable, but my information on what is going on with this bill isn't, and I am quite familiar with the legislative process.

Immigration is next on the legislative plate. As for whether or not Schumer has or hasn’t introduced the bill having anything to do with the chances of it’s passage, he can’t get it on the agenda until they clear the health care bill and see whether or not they can salvage the cap and trade bill. They can’t swallow all those issues at once. Graham is on board and McCain is a big supporter of immigration reform. I don’t think many Dems will oppose it (read none) so it will pass. You can continue to delude yourself that because Schumer hasn’t brought it up yet it won’t pass but you’re wrong. That’s where your logic breaks down. As for being gratuitously insulted, well, this is FR. If you don’t have a thick skin maybe you should just lurk.

You know, Free Republic used to be collegial and cordial. People differed, but didn't insult each other so much. I think people like you -- people of your obviously lower intellectual and educational level, and intensely insecure, hostile nature -- have lowered the tone.

Immigration has been on the legislative plate since the last time it failed. This is your magnificent, superior insight: that some of them are still trying? What kind of a man are you that you can't stand for a woman to disagree with your pontifications?

They too have been sold on the promise of Future votes from the illegal block of potential voters and also payouts for cheap labor from unscrupulous companies. There is probably money being funneled from Mexico City as well....

Both parties have their hands in the illegal immigration cookie jar, a jar that encompasses many lobby groups in Washington but very few constituents at home.

We suffer under the pawl of a Junta of leftist ideologues. They’re the same as the spoiled brat SDS punks back in our university days,who occuppied classrooms and university buildings across the country, shutting down campuses and short changing those of us who had paid tuition to go to classes, the majority of us in fact.
