“Why does Florida need a special exception?” (Sen Bill Nelson's payola"
HotAir ^ | December 12, 2009 | Ed Morrissey

Senator Mike Crapo answers that question, but before we get to it, Ellen Ratner and Nicole Sandler have already answered it … on Air America. While Democrats insist that $500 billion in cuts to Medicare (primarily targeting Medicare Advantage) won’t cut anyone’s benefits, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) insisted on language that exempted three heavily Democratic counties in his home state from the cuts.

If those massive cuts to the program won’t hurt people on Medicare Advantage, why did Nelson fight to get exemptions for Palm Beach, Dade, and Broward counties? Hmmmmm…….

John McCain tried to get an amendment passed that would have given that exemption to every county in the US. Democrats killed it, of course.

Turns out there are two Americas. There’s one to which Democrats pander, and there’s the other that gets stuck with the bill.

WE need to start a list of the payoffs being given to Democrat Senators to get their Healthcare Vote.

1. Mary Landrieu LA gets something like $300 million in Medicare Benefits for her state.

2. Bill Nelson FL gets some specific benefits for his South Florida Base so he won't get voted out of office in 2014.

What are the others?

Maybe this is their way of redistributing wealth (to those who will keep them in office)!

Isn't this a Constitutional issue under the Equal Protection clause? Not that anyone seems to care much, these days.

Didn’t Snowe or Collins get a provision about bailing out Maine’s failed effort at socialized medicine.

Remember out POTUS figures the constitution didn’t go far enough - to re-distribute wealth. Far as I’m concerned zero lied when he took his oath to protect and defend the Constitution and apparently the other rats are right there along with him.

I'm in Broward COunty and I will NOT ever vote for Bill Nelson.

If only the Bush Family hadn't made trouble for Katherine Harris back when Nelson was up for re-election, his office could have been turned red for Republican.

Dems Fight Each other to a Stand Still in the Senate over Drugs ... put a hold on Senator Dorgan’s (D-ND) drug re-importation amendment, who in turn, has objected to the Senate moving on any other health care amendments, ...

How does one senator get to have an exemption for three particular counties in his state? How in the world is that legal?

Sen Schumer NY certainly does not need any bribe money to vote for HealthCare.

But being a major water carrier for Obama does bring its rewards-—

“The measure debated Friday would exempt two large metropolitan areas — including New York City — from any Medicare Advantage cuts and would give the secretary of Health and Human Services discretion to also exempt counties bordering New York and the other unidentified metro area, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. That presumably could exempt Westchester and Nassau counties.”

I have drafted an e-mail to Nelson of Fla asking for very clear e-mail reply re his involvement and logic in this dirty affair.

Does anyone know how to look up a senator’s e-mail address? All I seem to find are web sites that link into the senator’s web site and you have to fill out a form to send an e-mail.

I need Nelson’s e-mail address so I can send him an outlook express generated e-mail. Thanks.

Senator Mike Crapo said the exemption was in part (g) of section 3201 which begins on page 894 of the bill. The text of the bill is at: http://democrats.senate.gov/reform/patient-protection-affordable-care-act.pdf
A section (g) begins on page 894 and appears to continue to page 899 where a section (h) begins. Can anyone viewing these posts figure out which paragraph grants this exemption to Bill Nelson’s favored Florida counties?

Can the rest of the Counties in Florida bring a class action suit against Senator Nelson? He is our Senator too, but we aren’t going to receive any special compensation!

Since when does a Senator have the right to show partiality to one part of his State as opposed to another?

He’s not a Congressman representing a District. He is a Senator representing the State!

Stewing in Collier County.
