Copenhagen summit: Is there any real chance of averting the climate crisis?
The Observer ^ | 29 November 2009 | James Hansen

Posted on 12/05/2009 11:39:53 AM PST by ricks_place

Nasa's James Hansen was the first to point out the perils of climate change to the US Congress. Here, he begins a heated debate with experts from around the world, from China to the threatened Maldives, and argues that our leaders must be shaken out of their complacency. But will they show enough courage at next week's Copenhagen summit to take the first steps to saving the planet?

Absolutely. It is possible – if we give politicians a cold, hard slap in the face. The fraudulence of the Copenhagen approach – "goals" for emission reductions, "offsets" that render ironclad goals almost meaningless, the ineffectual "cap-and-trade" mechanism – must be exposed. We must rebel against such politics as usual.

Science reveals that climate is close to tipping points. It is a dead certainty that continued high emissions will create a chaotic dynamic situation for young people, with deteriorating climate conditions out of their control.

Science also reveals what is needed to stabilise atmospheric composition and climate. Geophysical data on the carbon amounts in oil, gas and coal show that the problem is solvable, if we phase out global coal emissions within 20 years and prohibit emissions from unconventional fossil fuels such as tar sands and oil shale.

Such constraints on fossil fuels would cause carbon dioxide emissions to decline 60% by mid-century or even more if policies make it uneconomic to go after every last drop of oil.

I don’t do drugs so I have a hard time understanding a policy that states, “You can still pollute as much as you always have, we just want you to give us lots of money to do it.” How the hell does that “save the planet”?

Atmospheric composition and climate have never been stable. Ever. What makes anybody think we can stabilize them?

"Improved forestry and agricultural practices could then bring atmospheric carbon dioxide back to 350 ppm (parts per million) or less, as required for a stable climate."

For all their PHds and other degrees, these people are really stupid. When has the Earth's climate ever been stable? Was it stable 15,000 years ago when the glaciers covering most of N. America and then it became warmer and the glaciers started receding? Was it stable when the "Little Ice Age" froze up and the people were having "ice festivals" on the Thames and Hudson rivers during the Winter?

He has a vested interest in making this work. He has developed software to monitor the new earth skin (SEE Cisco Companies web site). He tied at the hip with Stanford University Professor who owns 3 software companies.

Last night an archived Letterman show was aired. It was about three months old. Al Gore was the guest. Geez, the nonsense aired in that program...

Letterman told a pretty good joke during his monologue though.

Paraphrased:

“It seems some people don’t think warming is real. A new study has revealed it is. At Yankee stadium for instance, the temperature of beer has been documented to have risen two degrees.” Rimshot!

Global warming emails involving Michael Mann and Philip Jones disclose tactics manipulating peer review of articles and refusing requests for basic data now found destroyed. Small wonder such research produces models unable to predict past, present or future temperatures.

The UN earlier adopted flawed papers by Michael Mann and Malcolm Hughes, which supported the U.N. agenda and set research standards for man-made global warming. Their suspect methods combined temperature readings of current centuries with selected ancient tree ring, ice core, and coral reef data.

Recently, MIT researchers prophesied weak ocean mitigation of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is claimed to be the major source of global warming. However, atmospheric CO2 represents less than one particle for 10,000, making finding Waldo in a puzzle more likely. Water vapor that CO2 bonds with (think of carbonated water) is 25 times more plentiful in the atmosphere, and 2.5 million times more plentiful in oceans. When a single hurricane uses enough energy to power Japan for a year, how can weather have minimal influence on CO2 reduction, which also has minimal atmospheric presence?

Habibbullo Adbussamatov contradicts scientific consensus by suggesting changes in the sun’s radiance accounts for changes in Earth temperatures. Data from NASA’s 2005 Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey reveal Mars temperature variations agree with the Earth’s.

It seems articles like this and political pronouncements by people like Gordon Brown's are showing up even after “climategate”. The overriding influence of Sun and ocean, and legitimate peer review remains suppressed. Politicians and capitalists, who benefit from a Copenhagen treaty, dictate maintaining this scientific heresy. People worldwide have to keep pushing to breakdown this Potemkin Village. There is just too much money and power at state.

I had this tid-bit today from a friend in (H)openhagen - she’s a native:
“Thinking about it I can`t understand why they have the conference just before X-mas It puts the whole downtown on standby. You cant stand still if you are driving in there, They don’t have enough hotels or lodgings for so many people. Have asked the public to take in.visitors.”

It’s going to be a mess - in so many ways,

Get the popcorn!

The only “crisis” is in that so-called “scientists” have bamboozled many and stained their profession. Losers.
