People -- not just politicians, but people -- who make such lame statements make them because they are silly and vain. Anyone who is impressed by such wholesale inanity is ridiculous indeed. Can you imagine these words being said by, say, Reagan, John Wayne, Thatcher, Thomas Sowell, Winston Churchill, Benjamin Franklin, Shakespeare (except in wicked parody!), or any other admirable figure whose wisdom has profoundly contributed to helping others become wise?
If Palin or Fred Thompson ever uttered such hollow rubbish, I would be disillusioned and heartbroken. But here's the thing -- they wouldn't say something so inane because they're better than Romney. (to steal from Mark Levin: "There!!! I said it!!!")
This is one more Klaxon, one more flashing neon light with arrows, one more blazing RED FLAG, one more shout from the mountaintops -- MITT ROMNEY IS BAD NEWS. He's on Larry King Alive representing the Republican party and is considered a top contender for the 2012 presidential nomination -- people, we had better understand that Jim Robinson is correct and wise in advocating direct aggressive attacks on Romney now to see him booted out of the Republican running before he can do any more damage to real conservatives and the Republican banner and brand. Any Republican responsible for such a vain and vacuous quote on national TV is OUR ENEMY.
(P.S. -- Thanks for the ping, Dio!
I've always been of the opinion that if a felon truly found God, at least the God I think I know and know I love, through Christ, he wouldn't seek to get out of jail, but would feel compelled to stay to help other such lost souls see the light as well. Just the fact that a person who claims to have "found God" then turns around and says he thinks he should therefore go free, indicates to me that the person hasn't truly found God. That's just MY take on it.
No, he was being gratuitous.
The title is VERY MISLEADING. (to say the least)
"My conclusion was if somebody has been convicted by a jury of their peers and they have been prosecuted and the police were able to get the evidence necessary to put them behind bars, why in the world would I step in and reverse that sentence," he said.
There is plenty to attack Romney but IMO this isn't it.
Is there anyone on this thread that disagrees with Romney's statement above?
Posting this to paint Romney the same as Huckabee on this issue is all but a lie.
Not good for FR.
Now if Romney had pardoned felons and said he didn't that would be another mark against Romney. I haven't checked this statement out....but good grief...
IMO Romney wasn't defending Huckabee or agreeing with him. Romney didn't slam Huckabee...although I think he should have in this case. Anyone should hammer Huckabee on this.
Does Romney really have the honest moral standing to do this?
Who knows. Not many people are hammering Huckabee at all. Hell, FR itself, if it is going to take on Mitt ought to take on the Huckster. Mitt is much less of a threat that Huckabee.
Huckabee is much more charismatic than Mitt and as such he is more dangerous in the upcoming primaries. If he is still 'in the running' he will attempt to take out Sarah Palin.
I have no interest in seeing that happen.
FR needs to take on RINOs, like Huck and Mitt, and build up Conservatives. I use FR as my main source of news I would appreciate if it covered the spectrum. That includes going after Huckabee. He is a smooth talking, dangerous, salesman. Watch his convention speech again. It was great! But watch his governing...disgusting.
No kidding. I like this headline better:
Romney thus eviscerated the easy-on-criminals Huckabee. It was done so gracefully that both the CNN story and a National Review blog said that Romney had "defended" Huckabee's clemency decision. I'd predict Huckabee wouldn't read it that way.
No kidding. I like this headline better:
“Romney filets Huckabee.”

Thanks for the link.. I agree

It’s in Romney’s interest for Huckabee to stay viable. Huck and Palin would likely split the social conservative vote in a GOP primary, leaving Romney a hole to run through to the nomination.
