Union Violence: An African-American is beaten up at a political rally by thugs shouting racial epithets, and after three months his assailants are charged with the moral equivalent of jaywalking. Why wasn't it a hate crime?

The beating of Kenneth Gladney by people wearing the purple shirts of the Service Employees International Union outside a Missouri health care town hall meeting three months ago met all the classic definitions of a hate crime. Time was, the beating of a black man outside a protest rally, and the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, would be headline news.

Gladney was working as a vendor outside an Aug. 6 town hall forum called by Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo., at Bernard Middle School in Mehlville, Mo., when he was punched in the face by someone in a group of people wearing purple T-shirts.

It was a summer of tea parties and growing town hall protests of administration plans to nationalize health care. Gladney thought he could make a few bucks selling flags saying "Don't Tread On Me," a flag from America's war of independence.

If your black and conservative you only count as 3/5 of a human being.

Liberals talk-the-talk and then back up their people with lawsuits. Many civil rights organizations will support, with big-bucks type lawyers, a person harmed by a business, police force or conservative organization.

Gladney, though black, is a conservative. So, where are the conservative organization with their big bucks? SEIU ought to have the bejesus sued out of them! Why isn’t Gladney being supported, hmm?

We’ve seen the enemy — and they is us!!

Gladney has a potential civil rights claim. And he would not be limited to suing the perps. He could sue in federal court for a civil rights violation under the Civil Rights Act. He could also sue SEIU itself, since the thugs were there doing SEIU duty, wearing the union shirts.

Cha Ching! Big Bucks.

Maybe he needs to change lawyers and get a conservative one. So many lawyers are libs who try and shut up conservative clients these days.

You must have inadvertently left off the one in front of the 3/5.

We’ve got watchdog groups. Helll, Levin’s got the Landmark Legal thing. I realize they are constitutional workshops, but surely they put this guy in touch with someone on the rolodex.

Someone should start a fund or something.

Liberals talk-the-talk and then back up their people with lawsuits.

Something conservatives lack the intestinal fortitude to do.

So, where are the conservative organization with their big bucks?

Walked away twice now...decided it is best not to comment on this question after all.

"Why wasn't it a hate crime?"

Oh, it was a hate crime. They just think Kenneth is the hater, along with everyone who was there protesting and buying his wares.

They weren’t all from the SEIU. There was one St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter involved as well.
