I don't think the odds are that long. FBI files indicate that several different groups had been stalking JFK for three or four months on the many trips he took leading up to the one in Dallas. What's your theory: that Oswald was a lone nutcase who fired a lucky shot (or two) and then himself was shot by another lone nutcase, Ruby? That seems even more far-fetched to me.

Why? Someone shooting the president somewhere—the Oswald factor—isn’t any kind of longshot. The shooter being a lone nut is actually rather common. Also, the shots weren’t “lucky”. They were easy. And he missed twice.

As for Ruby, once the Oswald factor has occured, it’s not very unlikely. I mean, I don’t know the odds on someone being killed while in police custody, but if there’s going to be vigilante justice, he’s most likely going to go after a big news item and will most likely be a nut. In other words, once the Oswald thing happens, the Ruby thing is much more likely to follow.

What you don’t seem to take into account is that however unlikely it was for what happened to have happened, it is all the more unlikely, by a ridiculous factor, for two people to happen to choose Dallas on that particular day. It’s not even close.

By which I mean it isn’t any kind of longshot that someone will at some point try to kill, or succeed in killing, the president. It happens a lot:

Killed: Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley, John F. Kennedy

Attempted Kills: Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush

(With the exception of Lincoln, who was killed as part of a wider conspiracy, pretty much all attempts were by so-called lone nuts.)

The odds of it being in Dallas, precisely where Oswald did it, is of course a different matter. But that’s not really what we’re calculating. We’re calculating the odds of two shooters showing up at the same site against Kennedy being killed by a single lone nut (who himself is killed by a lone nut), wherever the place may be.

I know nothing to speak of about the JFK assassination, other than, of course, that there are a myriad of conspiracy theories surrounding all the circumstances of his death and the follow up.

This morning on NPR, there was BBC report about some longitudinal study about happiness, and that it is presumed that JFK was one of the volunteers for this lifelong psychological study.

Near the end of the broadcast they mentioning that all the remaining participants of this study who were still alive were in their 80s and that one of the agreements of participating in this study was to DONATE YOUR BRAIN after death to the researchers.

Anyway, although I know virtually NOTHING about the JFK conspiracies, even I am aware that some conspiratorial theorists are very concerned that JFK's physical brain remains are missing.

Maybe Harvard has them, and has had them for decades? ALL of the participants were supposed to remain totally anonymous -- maybe legally speaking, they cannot simply state that they have the missing brain --- IF, indeed that is the case.

From my general understanding there are many theories WHO did it. I don't follow the JFK assassination conspiracies, but I was aware that after his autopsy, the physical remains of his brain disappeared.

Perhaps these scientists at Harvard have had them all along; JFK signed up for this lifelong study when he was a student at Harvard in the 1930s, and at that time, one of the conditions to participate was to have a thorough physical exam which took a very long time as they took measurements of your entire anatomy. Another condition was to donate your brain at death to the researchers in charge of this study.

The PTB did him in . . . he was threatening to disclose things and try to change things they would not tolerate in the least way.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all that LBJ was in on it.

I remember watching his swearing in on the plane in real time when I was in High School.

I knew in my gut he was in on it at the time. I thought then that he was lying slime. That was before I knew so much about him.
