Should We Count Illegal Immigrants in Census?
Hogue News ^ | November 17, 2009 | Paul Smith

Posted on 11/17/2009 3:37:55 PM PST by hoguenews

There is a battle brewing in California, should we count only those who are citizens, or should we count everyone that resides inside of the Glden State.

So ponder this. When we take the census in 2010 should we be counting everybody or just U.S. citizens? There are non-citizens and illegal aliens in this country. What have we done in the past and why is it important?

First of all just in California if we excluded counting non-citizens we would lose 5 House seats in Congress. Exclude counting illegal immigrants we would lose an additional 2 seats. In 1990 California gained 7 seats after the census was tabulated. The count also figures in getting federal dollars, so the number does matter. Millions of dollars are at stake just in California.

Everyone is worried about how the Census will be counted. I do not believe that the Government can handle this! If they can’t handle the vaccine distribution how in the world are they going to manage the Census.

Why not count people in other countries too? Why not count the dead? Why not count the aborted? Why not count fictional characters?

Should we also count the people living in the non-existent counties which got stimulus money? That ought to beef up the Democrats numbers.

Yes. Not to give them “status” but to find out how many of them there are and where they are do we can deport them.

The majority will say "count us as legal citizens too".

Okay, we get it.

If we exclude non-citizens, California would lose 5 House seats in Congress.

Now what’s the downside?

The census takers just ask for the number of people in a dwelling. You don’t have to give them your SS number so how would the census takers know the legal status of anyone?

I think ACORN already registered the dead and fictional ones to vote.

Good plan. Identify how many, where they are and then send them home. I would even bet that enough people would donate money for the trip home.

Or a much easier way, just use SSN since everyone is required to have one from birth.

We count citizens or at the very lest those here legally that are also qualified to vote. If they’re not qualified to vote, they’re not qualified to count.

We let the Congressional seats fall where they may.

If liberal states like California (where I live) lose seats, so be it. Hopefully conservative areas will pick up seats.

Why should I desire to have people who are here illegally, bump up the number of districts just so their representatives can vote against my interests?

Federal dollars are also based on these figures. Force states to pick up the burden of paying for services for these folks without federal dollars, and I’ll bet the states start asking for them to leave. They’ll most certainly be reticent to give them so many services for free.

14th Amendment: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.

On the other hand, if they would just let them vote, just think how many seats in congress they would gain.

Certainly the illegals should be counted, we need to know how many people are in this country illegally, but why in the name of all that is holy should California be given seats in Congress because they have illegals.

That’s Bull crap.

Millions of dollars are at stake just in California."

Poppycock!!!

Citizenship, especially in CA and especially if you're a taxpaying propertyowner with zero property rights, has been totally devalued!!! You talk about the Dollar being devalued...

CA citizens, legal residents/immigrants will at least have their dignity restored by not losing BILLIONS because the state might lose a few millions on an actually correct census count here in CA!!! (it not even close, or even a wash)

I know it's hard, but let's keep our mind right on these issues...
