BERLIN The celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall started off well enough former President George H.W. Bush, ex-Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, and former West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl gathered in front of nearly 2,000 dignitaries in Berlin last week to celebrate their role in bringing about the end of the Cold War. It was a happy affair, with Mr. Bush and Mr. Gorbachev exchanging laughs and smiles as they recalled Nov. 9, 1989...
fractures between allies have shown themselves in what has been billed as an event to celebrate unity. One of these signs was the absence of US President Barack Obama as other heads of state gathered underneath the Brandenburg Gate Monday night ...
But President Obama sent Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is his place, infuriating many Germans, as the US president is beloved here. Some in Berlin asked if this snub indicated that the alliance between the US and Germans is strained.
... General Motors, whose board was appointed by the Obama administration, canceled a deal that would have saved German automotive jobs. Ms. Merkel was stunned and angry. The White House didnt comment.
Then Ms. Clinton took what many perceive as a shot at Germany for failing to commit additional troops to the war effort in Afghanistan. The wall celebrations should be should be a call to action, not just a commemoration of past actions, she said. That call should spur us to continue our cooperation and look for new ways that we can meet the challenges that freedom faces now
We owe it to ourselves and to those who yearn for the same freedoms that are enjoyed and even taken for granted in Berlin today....

Zer0 is too busy making excuses for the Islamists.
Given that obamammy’s plan for changing America roughly follows the model of East Germany during the Khruschev years, the falling of the Berlin Wall is not seen as something to celebrate in the current White House.
Trying to build some of those walls.
Where’s Dildo?
He’s too busy unclenching his fist.
Has any mention of Reagan and Thatcher been made?
Obama hates the history of our country and what it stands for. Doesn’t surprise me one bit that he would opt not to go to this. This guy does not represent me and therefore I cannot acknowledge him as my President.
Obama was afraid some of the other heads of state might praise America, and that he could not bear.
Obama doesn’t think the fall of European communism was a good thing. His mom, dad, and mentor all liked the Soviet Union.
Obama doesn’t think the fall of European communism was a good thing. His mom, dad, and mentor all liked the Soviet Union.
He’s back here trying to figure out ways to get more and more of our friends to hate us and more and more enemies to pretend to love us while hating us.
It’s called foreign policy, dudes!
It’s not about HIM, so he can’t be bothered.
Why wasn’t George Bush 41 there? The wall came down under his pesidency because it took a couple of years before Reagan’s words took root.
Martha McCallum and Marvin Kalb made me sick today gushing on and on about how Gorbachev was really the one responsible for tearing down the wall. Martha probably was still in elementary school when this happened, and she was just following the lead of that old Commie, Kalb.
Did anyone mention Thatcher? Or Pope John Paul II? If so, I didn’t hear it. Reagan, Thatcher, Pope JPII, and Walechsa are the 4 who are responible for the dismantling of the soviet Union.
He’s still holding a grudge because Germany wouldn’t let him speak at the Brandenburg Gate when he was running for POTUS.
Bush 41 was there. Your media mavens must not have reported it. Henry Kissinger was there, too.
Obama made a surprise video appearance. As a result, Obama was given a medal for the person most responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Apparently BHO made a video speech today.
Yahoo has nearly 800 photos on its site.

Reagan, Thatcher and John Paul II. How I miss those days!
I’m glad to hear it. Bush 41 was not on TV when I was watching over the noon hour.
Hillary’s speech was awful — strident and then she introduced the video of Obumbles and portrayed him as a mover, shaker, and history maker because he “tore down discriminatory walls.” I almost retched.
I am 100 percent sure that the White House “approved” her speech. Most likely wrote the entire thing.
I saw this on a very brief YouTube news clip. I don't watch ABCetc but they probably all played it if they covered the celebration at all. Their brain-weakened audience will think zerO was there.
Why would a Black Marxist from Rev. Wright’s cult join in to celebrate a symbol of the fall of communism with a bunch of blue eyed devil ice people?
