Mike Huckabee says he's 'very serious'
POLITICO.COM ^ | 09 NOVEMBER 2009 | POLITICO

A governor for 10 years and the winner of the Iowa caucuses in 2008, Huckabee should by all rights have a claim to be the early favorite for the Republican nomination. But former Gov. Mitt Romney, the candidate he bested in Iowa 2008 and for whom he does not attempt to contain his contempt, is riding high, credited by many Republicans as the best person to run against President Barack Obama in a down economy. And as Huckabee works his way through a 22-state tour for his new book, “A Simple Christmas,” he knows that he and the book will be almost entirely overshadowed by former Gov. Sarah Palin’s two-week barnstorming tour for her forthcoming memoir.

I agree with the first part, not so sure about the second.

Micheal Steele is still RNC Chairman, right?

Oh yeah? Well, why don't we just go back and get Bob Dole to run again? That worked out real well for "many Republicans", if I recall correctly. Or, shoot...let's just run McCain again!

"Many Republicans" picked Scozzafava. I don't trust "Many Republicans"...

I’ve heard FReepers whine that Sarah doesn’t have a chance bec the media has eviscerated her. I point out that ANY real conservative who gets into the race will be dealt the same attacks...so if they are picking their candidate because it is someone who won’t be totally destroyed by the lib media then they are picking a McCainnian loser.

I now add a new element to that observation: The acceptability of MY candidate will be inversely proportionate to the media abuse heaped upon that candidate as the more the lib media hates her/him the more conservative such a candidate must be.

So, once again, I support Sarah Palin.

Huck and Romney are DOA candidates, neither of them deserves to get the nod from a party that claims to be conservative. They are welcome in the party, but neither of them should remotely be considered the “standard bearer”.

Both of them need to check their egos and realize they are a distraction to the process, not an improvement.

He is perhaps the best qualified person to be the next Republican Presidential nominee, if you want Obama to serve a second term.

Romney said a lot of things, unfortunately what he said never lived up to what he DID! Gay marriage as a national issue is completely due to his ineptitude in handling it in his state, and he brought us OBAMACARE PARTI, etc etc etc.

Romneys actions don’t live up to his rhetoric and the voters saw through it in 08, and they sure won’t have time for his nonsense in 12. He was DOA in ‘o8 way early on and just kept spending his own money hoping folks would eventually fall for the lies he was selling. Didn’t work then, and definitely won’t work in 12.

These guys are welcome in the party, but by no remote definition are either one of these guys true conservatives, they are two faced liars when it comes to actions vs rhetoric. If we wanted that, we’d vote democrat in the first place. They are welcome in the party, but they have ZERO chance at being the nominee and are a distraction.

None of the 2008 crop of Presidential Candidates has any real shot at 2012... The conservative rebirth and awakening in the politically inactive thanks to Pelosi and Fauxbama guarantee that none of those wishy washy folks have a chance.

‘10 and ‘12 are RINO and DONKEY hunt seasons, Huck and Mitt have zero chance.

I think you sell the RNC Chairman short. He has the power to influence how Republicans conduct their in-state nominating processes. If they allow open elections where Democrats can cross over and elect our nominee for us, it’s partially his fault.

I don’t think Steele is doing a thing to clean up our nominating process. So I do hold him at the very least partially responsible for folks like McCain becoming our candidate.

Further, I believe your comment here shows how successful the RNC has been at hiding it’s duplicity in all this.

Interesting how the so-called MSM keeps pushing Romney, Huck, and TPaw as the best candidates while they keep up their assault on Palin, still lying about and smearing her, running phony polls, etc. Does anyone think for a minute that if Romney or Huck or TPaw were even capable of coming close to defeating 0bama, the MSM would be promoting them instead of attacking them?

The latter 2 on that list are the only ones who stand a serious hope of winning in that set, Mitt and Huck are non starters. The anger in middle america has awakened a lot of folks who were never political before, the days of the “moderate” republican or the faux-conservative being able to win the primary are over at least for the 2012 cycle.

Pelosi’s healthcare scam is right out of Mitt’s playbook. It could be called Mitt care. Why would we intentionally put the author of this Socialist garbage at the head of the Republican Party? Mitt might useful to Sarah’s administration, but he isn’t what this nation needs sitting in the White House, nor is Huck. I wish these guys would get their egos out of the way, and place this country first.
