California's best years have passed, voters say (but love Obama; would vote for Boxer again)

California's best years have passed, voters say

In a survey of 1,500 registered voters, 80% say the state is on the wrong track. Respondents express little confidence in state politicians and candidates, even as support for Obama remains high.

By Cathleen Decker

November 8, 2009

Frustrated at California's woes, voters are sharply pessimistic about whether the next governor will be able to move the state in the right direction, and most believe California is in the midst of a long-term decline, a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll shows.

Against that grim backdrop, next year's political contests loom as potentially volatile, but Democrats start out holding the upper hand, the poll found. President Obama retains his popularity in a state that gave him a landslide victory one year ago, with 60% approving of his tenure as president. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican struggling in the last year of his term, won the support of only a third of voters.

In the election to replace Schwarzenegger, Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, the only major figure currently angling for the Democratic nomination, was seen favorably by more than 4 in 10 voters, and unfavorably by about one-quarter. His likely Republican opponents are much less known; none was seen favorably by more than 2 in 10 voters, the poll indicated.

Despite all problems, Berkeley/SanFran liberals are still in firm control over there. That doesn't surprise me. I can meet California conservatives only on Internet.:-)

This is a Mexican public attitude and behavior of life in Mexico. They can not envision anything better and they keep voting for the same people who make sure it won’t get better. I tend to believe the assessment of the new Californian vision. It won’t get better; it will be poor, more corrupt and hopeless. The new immigrants live in America but they are still foreigners.

You have my sympathy. I just don’t understand Hollyweird. Why do they want to destroy the free market system that makes them rich? Why do they care so much for the environment but live in mansions and fly on private jets? Why do they want the government to rob the rich to give to the poor, yet do everything possible to hang onto their millions?

As long as we continue to have California’s worst politicians in history in Sacramento, California’s best days will be behind her.

Swap out the Marxists in Sacramento, and watch how fast things turn around. Then California’s best days could still be ahead.

Alas, with the boneheads we have running the Republican party in the state, we’re -—ked.

Can't happen without violence. Total economic collapse followed by violent riots in big cities, criminal elements moving in (a la current Mexico) to fill the political vacuum, followed by defacto civil war. These are the prerequisites for government overhaul.

A constitutional convention can occur in California if a 2/3rds majority of the members of both houses of the California State Legislature vote to put the question to a statewide vote of the people, who must then approve the question by a simple majority. California has held two such conventions, in 1849 and 1878. The state’s voters approved a call for a constitutional convention in 1933, but the California State Legislature declined to act on that call.

I will not go down that “California road to Prosperity” called socialism nor will I allow government business the “Chicago Way”
The problem is called “Career Politicians”
Cut your spending to the bone.
JOIN THE TAX REVOLT
STOP YOUR SPENDING
Don’t give to Washington
Don’t give it to Wall Street.
Don’t put it in the Local Bank
Take your extra cash and bury it in the “back yard”.
And above all tell your “career politicians” why you have stopped spending.
Tell Washington to stop their out of control spending.

To liberals, voting for Dems is like buying an indulgence. It will absolve their sins. They loathe to dip their toes into the real world. They want to stay above it, pretending to live in a paradise (or utopia.) An exercise to keep a giant bubble of illusion around oneself. As long as they keep it up, they live in a cleansed world. However, time is running out on it now. It must be all ‘Bush's fault.’ LOL.

I’ve started to notice liberals are getting (very) quiet about things.

But they remain in control of the national conversation - because still, conservative / libertarian media to challenge their control of message - is not strong enough

Things are starting to change, but it’s time for some wealthy enterprising conservative to really shake up liberal’s media monopoly with the hostile take over of some network or even better a major movie studio. They’re weak and could be picked off.

Rush has all the money in the world. It would be wonderfully ironic if he were to take the money he had intended to invest in the NFL - and use it to take over CBS or some movie studio.

Then move filming and studio offices - to somewhere like Branson Missouri.

California liberals really need to be taken on. They’re arrogant because they have no competition.

Exactly. Folks who are not familiar with what California has become, and how it became that way, need to hear this, as this is a glimpse into the future of the rest of the country unless we stop this horror cold. Unfortunately, time is running out.

Bears clarifying.

It’s not just that Mexicans do not assimilate.

Mexicans see AMERICANS as the interlopers in the US southwest. One can see it in the eyes of Mexican immigrants.

Mexicans are re-taking the American southwest, and American political correctness has blinded even a lot of conservatives to the process.

The entire Bush family seems blind to it.

It’s part of the reason we now have Obama.

And now - the destruction of the US Southwest has accelerated.

Who do you suppose is fleeing from the economic collapse which stretches from San Francisco through all of California - into Nevada and into Arizona?

Mexicans?

No. It is native-born Americans who are pulling up and moving out.

The process of “reconquista” is if anything, speeding up and being assisted by the economic collapse.

“California’s best years have passed, voters say (but love Obama;
would vote for Boxer again)”

California gets the government/economy it votes for.

They had a chance to adjust to the tech bust by voting for Matt Fong
instead of Barbara Boxer.
Of course, they love and vote for Total Air-Head Boxer.

And they wouldn’t be in so deep of a hole if they’d listened to
the early days of Gov. “Arnold”.

If Californians wonder how they got in this mess, they only need to
look in the mirror and remind themselves they voted for Democrats.
(and some limp Republicans in fewer cases)

California as it stands now, has perfect two-class society. Upper class oligarchs, white(blanco) liberals, and Hispanic underclass. The setup is exactly the same as in Mexico except that white upper class are usually of Anglo-German stock.

Unfortunately he got out of the Marines and stayed in California, married and has three kids. They live in a two-bedroom apartment. He graduated with his MBA and I found him a job in Texas where we live. The flew him in to interview him. He has a chance at home ownership and a great life and is throwing it away to stay in that apartment because he would have to pay a few hundred dollars a week more in health insurance. Forget the fact that there is no state income tax here and he would get an immediate raise there, plus the cost of living is so much lower. Just goes to show you what a California college education does for a person. That is why this country is so screwed up.
