WASHINGTON – The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.
Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people."
The problem is that the Senate won't run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

"The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.
Democrats did not line up to challenge him. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has yet to schedule floor debate and hinted last week that senators may not be able to finish health care this year.
Nonetheless, the House vote provided an important lesson in how to succeed with less-than-perfect party unity, and one that Senate Democrats may be able to adapt. House Democrats overcame their own divisions and broke an impasse that threatened the bill after liberals grudgingly accepted tougher restrictions on abortion funding, as abortion opponents demanded.
In Senate, the stumbling block is the idea of the government competing with private insurers. Liberals may have to swallow hard and accept a deal without a public plan in order to keep the legislation alive. As in the House, the compromise appears to be to the right of the political spectrum........................................................................

Worse, if it passes and the courts let it fly, Congress will feel entitled to pass anything they wish. There is nothing in the Constitution to support this kind of coercion and intermeddling in our lives.

One look at he IRS enforcement provisions in the bill, and you know getting seriously sick can mean losing everything you have, without so much as a court hearing. IRS seizure, you see.

Personally, I will go to jail before I submit to buying anything the Fedgov dictates I purchase. It is not the same as States requiring auto insurance as so many now compare. You don't have to drive on public roads. Even in California, you don't have to register your car nor have insurance if you are not driving on public roads.

I think Reid realizes that if this boondoggle makes it out of the senate, he is toast in 2010, (he may very well be toast regardless of what happens). He needs for it to disappear, but he can’t afford killing it himself for fear of angering the democrat base. That is why he is not trying to rein in the moderates in the senate like Pelosi did in the house. He wants obamacare dead, but he wants the moderate democrats to take the blame so he can get up and say, “I tried my best to get this bill passed, but those dastardly republicans and that traitor Lieberman just wouldn’t let it happen... Now can we all just forget about healthcare and talk about my new bribe....uhhh...I mean stimulus package for democrat voters in 2010.”

The Founding Fathers were wise to establish the Senate as a place where serious deliberations were expected to take place, and rational decisions made after much consideration and weighing of the facts.
I hope there are enough adults left there to stop this nonsense created by Pelosi and her spoiled little brats in the House.
There is a nastiness to Reid that should not be overlooked though. I can see him leaving this as a parting ‘gift’ to the stinking Americans he so clearly dislikes.

Yeah, they are saying this too much. Perhaps a set up stage fight for BHO to ride to the ‘rescue’?
The problem here is that they only have to pass a bill, any bill, with the name HealthCare on it and the bureaucrats will go to work on it and all subsequent legislation will include tweaks on the HealthCare law. Any bill is the whole ball of wax.
The irony here is that the Senate that is usually “the worker’s paradise” may well turn out to be our only hope here.

Indeed. Nor is it about health health CONTROL. It is about total control of the society. It includes access to everyones’ bank accounts and automatic taxation- er, fees- by appropriating the money out of the bank accounts. That is one piece of this thing.

Oh that’s for sure. Their goal is single payer. No doubt about it. They won’t get it now, but that’s their goal.
Honestly, I don't think he cares. He knows he's toast in Nevada.
What he cares about is any number of potential government posts if he gets the deal closed here. Maybe "Healthcare Czar" or "Overseer of Personal Responsibility and health" or any number of positions within the new gestapo.
We have a very real reason to fear this bill will become law as written in the house.
