The Pelosi Bill Was Rammed Through on Saturday, But Sunday’s Coming

We’ve got to hold on to hope, and we’ve got to fight hard because Congressional action tonight just put America on a path toward an unrecognizable country.

The same government leaders that got us into the mortgage business and the car business are now getting us into the healthcare business.

Despite Americans’ decisive message last Tuesday that they reject the troubling path this country has been taking, Speaker Pelosi has broken her own promises of transparency to ram a health “care” bill through the House of Representatives just before midnight. Why did she push the 2,000 page bill this weekend? Was she perhaps afraid to give her peers and the constituents for whom she works the chance to actually read this monstrous bill carefully, if at all? Was she concerned that Americans might really digest the details of a bill that the Wall Street Journal has called “the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced”?

This out-of-control bureaucratic mess will be disastrous for our economy, our small businesses, and our personal liberty. It will slam businesses at a time when we are at double-digit unemployment rates – the highest we’ve seen in a quarter of a century. This massive new bureaucracy will cost us and our children money we don’t have. It will rob Americans of more of our freedom and further hamper the free market.

Make no mistake: we’re on course to have government commandeer one-sixth of our economy. The people who gave us Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now want to run our health care. Think about that.

All of us who value the sanctity of life are grateful for the success of the pro-life majority in the House this evening in its battle against federal funding of abortion in this bill, but it’s ironic because we were promised that abortion wasn’t covered in the bill to begin with. Our healthy distrust of these government leaders made us look deeper into the bill because unfortunately we knew better than to trust what they were saying. The victory tonight to amend the bill and eliminate that federal funding for abortion was great – because abortion is not health care. Now we can only hope that Rep. Stupak’s amendment will hold in the final bill, though the Democratic leadership has already refused to promise that it won’t be scrapped later.

We had been told there were no “death panels” in the bill either. But look closely at the provision mandating bureaucratic panels that will be calling the shots regarding who will receive government health care.

Look closely at provisions addressing illegal aliens’ health care coverage too.

Those of us who love freedom and believe in open and transparent government can only be dismayed by midnight action on a Saturday. Speaker Pelosi’s promise that Americans would have 72 hours to read the final bill before the vote was just another one of the D.C. establishment’s too-common political ploys. It’s broken promises like this that turn people off to politics and leave them disillusioned about the future of their country.

But despite this late-night maneuvering, many of us were paying close attention tonight. We’ll keep paying close attention. We need to let our legislators in Washington know that they still represent us, and that the majority of Americans are not in favor of the “reform” they are pushing. After all, this is still a country “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” We will make our voices heard. It’s on to the Senate now. Our legislators can listen now, or they can hear us in 2010. It’s their choice.

Let the word go out, from this day forward, that everything EVERYTHING that is not up to the standard it should be in medical care is Obama’s fault.

Surgeon cut off the wrong leg? Obama did it. Someone on Medicare getting jerked around? Obama is responsible. Kid dies because a brain tumor wasn’t caught in time? Blame it on ObamaCare.

If this thing somehow gets enacted into law, we must make every representative pledge that he will get a bill introduced (by sponsoring or co-sponsoring) to completely repeal the bill that might emerge from a conference committee that was based on the House bill passed tonight - and then actually VOTE to repeal it.

Status Quo Ante 10/7/09!

Charles (the tax man cometh)Rangle didn’t make the promise. And Boehner couldn’t get him to take the bait...

Road trip to Northern part of Michgan would be nice. Stupak voted for the stimuls package and the elderly are pissed off.

Can’t the GOP find one conservative up there to run against this guy?

Hope won’t float on this one... Palin needs to do a Gordie Howe hat trick on Stupak.

...Unless the political left majority also decides to just end having any more elections in ‘10 and/or beyond. I guessed that this “moment” would eventually occur, after the left won on November ‘06, and their win on November ‘08 increased the left’s political numbers even more. It no longer matters what any future non-leftist majorities ever do, if they really can’t successfully get rid of: socialized medicine, cap and trade, amnesty for illegal immigrants, bans on free speech,...

And when is this civil war or revolution really going to happen? It’s already too late, after pro-socialistic legislation is already the law of the land! What good would Sarah Palin be as POTUS, after socialistic health care, cap and trade, amnesty for illegal immigrants, ban on free speech,...are all already put into place as legislation for the very long-term to forever? If all of this leftist crap really can’t be undone by even a majority of future non-leftists, then what’s the point?

It will be difficult to repeal.

Once it’s passed, even if we elect a conservative congress who votes to repeal, Obama will just veto the repeal bill. It takes 2/3 of both houses to override a veto.

We are screwed.

The only answer is the revolution that will follow, but that will be many years from now.

I support Sarah - but I fear whatever we may have left to try now may come as too little too late to the dance.

It may simply be time for us to “saddle up”, pack all those “provisions” we Americans have been purchasing in record numbers since October of 2008, and remove our republic from the cold, rigor mortis affected hands which right now have it by the proverbial throat.

Our (s)elected officials have comported themselves with such absolute arrogance since January, that I find it hard not to wonder if the {ACORN/COI,SEIU} voting fraud mechanisms are already so firmly entrenched, that they expect the 2010 midterm elections to be a foregone conclusion in their own favor.

Witness the breeziness with which our wonderful attorney general, Mr. Holder, dismissed ALL voter intimidation charges against the New Black Panthers in PA - despite the fact that they were caught on video, blatantly committing their crimes.

If it is not already too late, we better pray and then act to assure ourselves that 2010 does not transpire that way!

A.A.C.

My wife and I had dinner with a couple of our left leaning friends who are absolutely clueless about the so called health bill. The husband has cronic heart disease but thinks he will always have the insurance he holds now I suggested that he have another glass of koolaid!

It amazes me that the 60 something baby boom liberals don’t see the jaugernaught aimed right at them. the death panels and the rationing is not in place for the current aged population, it will take atleast ten years for this system to ram up. The rationing will affect the baby boom group, the big bubble of population that will need to be “thined out” wait untill they all realize that it has been designed to remove the unsustainable numbers in that group! and they trust goverment so!

The war is heating up and I advocate Civil disobedience when it comes to paying for this crap. By every means do not fund this system we must cut the money flow to this monster. The government expects us to obey the law when they do not - forget about it!!!!!!!!

...Congressional action tonight just put America on a path toward an unrecognizable country.

Last night's action was just one part in a play that has been acted out over many decades. Ultimately it is the American people's complacency in the face of corruption that has resulted in this sad outcome.

We've tolerated corrupted unions and public employees for DECADES. We've allowed our schools to be dumbed down for DACADES. Ultimately this responsibility rests with the American people, and those same people are about to reap the fruits of their (lack of) labor.

The same government leaders that got us into the mortgage business and the car business are now getting us into the health care business.

Aaaargh! This bill does not lead us into the "health care" business. It leads us into the "health insurance" business. If they truly want to offer 100% of Americans "health care" (not insurance), they should open "free", 24 hour, clinics in poor neighborhoods and let anyone go there for treatment. Clinics could be staffed with doctors who have received generous tuition grants, similar to what the military offers them in return for three or four years of service. There should be a large number of Physician Assistants, who would see the non-critical patients.

At least, this plan encourages people to become doctors and PA's and solves the problem of overextended emergency rooms.

The real problem is, Libs think the "underprivileged" deserve the same "insurance" and "health care" as those of us who pay our own way! We don't owe them insurance! We don't even owe them health care! But, the latter is inevitable, so let's at least make it fair to all sides. Those who pay the bills just might deserve a better plan. Both sides get health care, both sides are well treated. But the ones who pay the bills should have more choices.

Seriously, leftist love rationed care, and too many leftists also love death in all forms, with the exception of death to everything leftist. Mass suicide would also be up their alley, just as long as it’s non-leftists that fully practice it. Worldwide leftists certainly are a profoundly warped bunch.

It’s not too late. What usually happens with tyranny is that a few aggrieved groups feel the brunt of it first but everyone else is left untouched. There are a lot of people right now under a fatal delusion that this would actually help them. They will be disabused of the notion slowly but surely if it gets enacted.

Sure it may pass. And yes it will hard to repeal. UNLESS it hasn’t really taken root in the first place. By that I mean that the civil disobedience to these laws have to be so widespread and so pervasive that we force the Congress’s hand.

Increasing the cost to the tyrant of tyranny. That is what fighting for liberty is all about. Make every step they take progressively more difficult until they give up.

We’ll become an army of Jacksonians. “Congress has passed its law....now let it enforce it.”

I do not think most people have a clue about "health insurance".

1. Insurance companies are not altruistic institutions. They are profit-seeking businesses.

2. When you buy insurance, you are effecting a contract for services. In any contract, both sides usually win. In these, you pay monthly to cover costs over time, and "insure" (share costs) against greater risks.

3. When an insurance company sets a rate, it is based on actuarial statistics. The means that out of every thousand people, so many get cancer, so many have heart attacks, and so many get pregnant. These are based on EXPERIENCE, and the combined costs of those affect the cost of "insuring" against those possibilities.

4. When it costs more to treat those sick, it costs more to insure them, and rates climb.

Nobody has the "right" to be sick and expect/demand that other people pay to heal them. That is socialism. The Gum't has no LEGAL role in healthcare.

From one D Congresscritter speaking last night... "we will limit the cost to you, but will not limit how much it will pay out for you..."

Yeah, right! Do we get the chicken in the pot, too?

The following comment is written in the impersonal sense of “you.”

If you are paying your taxes, don’t whine. If you are feeding and fueling and subsidizing the government, you are whining about something that you make possible. Don’t bloviate about the (not!) coming armed rebellion and the courageous last stand on your doorstep. It’s on your doorstep NOW. Indeed, it’s crawling around in your checkbook and your wallet and that is where you ought to be resisting it.

If you don’t like the beast, don’t feed the beast. No need for violence whatsoever. Retire, go Galt, tighten the belt, give up the lifestyle for the sake of the America you say you love.

Until then, you are part of the problem. The sponsor part.

Ephesians 6:11-13 (New International Version)

11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

I know that I will never receive much from SS. It's broke. I am just preparing to provide for and defend myself and my progeny against those with no clue.

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self- preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means." --Thomas Jefferson to John Colvin, 1810

My wife and I had dinner with a couple of our left leaning friends who are absolutely clueless about the so called health bill.

Publicizing the egregious and nefarious aspects of this bill may be just the wake-up call that will rouse voters against it.
Along with challenging the bill's constitutionality, it can be gutted, tied-up, or even stopped in the Senate, or in committee of Senate and House.
Obama is a long way from winning, though he has won round 1 in his fight to abolish the American ideal.

Aside: Inspirational speech (/sarc) from the minority whip last night. The Republicans are better off allotting all their debate time to Michele Bachmann - is she alone in being passionate and having a fire in her belly?
