If congress wasn’t trying for a power grab (which I assume they will have gotten unfortunately by tonight)and if their soul issue was to cover the uninsured then the bill would not be 1990 pages long. A very simple bill offering insurance for uninsured, people who lost their insurance and have preexisting conditions could have been written. To the Left: You might think you have won but in the end you will know, you lost!

Let the ammendment fail. The entire health care bill will be dead if abortion is funded in the house version. The average American citizen does not want to be paying for the butchery.

Harry Truman pushed full-blown single payer in the early 50s.

We’re a LONG way from this thing becoming law. There will be several more votes on several different variations of the bill. It’s definitely not a done deal.

Absolutely right. The House has to get re-elected every two years and they are more closely connected to their constituents (in theory at least), whereas the Senate are only up for re-election every 6 years and are so out of touch and don’t give a good g-d what their “constituency” wants.

And even if it gets through the Senate, it is destined to proceed right on to the Supreme Court. Although its likely the dems will keep collecting the taxes on it for their little slush fund.

Go to your neighbor, demand a few hundred dollars from him, and tell him you want it for a friends abortion. Do you think he would give it to you?
This bill is forcing you, and your neighbor, to do just that. Some scank gets herself knocked up, and the rest of the nation is punished for it. The baby gets it even worse. It gets dismembered while still alive - for "free"!

But if you want to draw other Freepers into your post then explain what the subject of your post is about! No doubt it's important but obviously not important enough for you to inform the reader.

It's VERY CONFUSING right now and a lot of posters are way off base tonight. Stupak was insisted upon by the blue dogs to Pelosi to give them cover. An up or down oral vote, federally funded abortions or no? On it SURFACE, it seems like Pubs should vote NO; however, if they did, then the blue dogs would then be "free" to vote FOR the healthcare bill. Since the bills was defeated, and obviously many republicans did NOT vote for it (seemingly saying yes to federally funded abortions), now those blue dogs have to either vote for the bill they despise and cannot defend to their constituents, or VOTE AGAINST IT AND KILL THE FRIGGIN' BILL!! Either way, up or down on Stupak, federally funded abortions WILL be in the senate bill. This was just a way to give blue dogs cover for voting for the bill. Republicans denied them, and may have saved us from the bill all together.

Stupak(-Pitts) Amendment was an amendment that would disallow federal funds to be used for abortions. It’s a shell-game anyway, as Piglosi can strip it out later in committee (she would have). it’s also ridiculous because these Marxist vermin WILL find a way to hide in the Bill a mechanism for doing just that — federally funding abortions.

The amendment did not pass. And now we have to hope that Pro-Life DimoRATs will change their YES to NO.

The house runs every 2 years for elections, 435 members, they are more dynamic, and can get voted out every two years. The Senate, 100 members, are supposed to be more serious. I believe the senate is the better stop gap. But, we still want a defeat in the house. Keep praying and calling. WE WILL MAKE THEM LISTEN TO US!

I think that the GOP should purposely vote NO on the Stupak amendment. That way, it fails and will place those pro-life democrats in a huge bind to vote for the final bill. I think that is one last way to scuttle this thing tonight.

Just a little FYI, some seem to think if this passes tonight it goes to Obama's desk...

Next, the senate has to pass their own version which needs 60 votes because of senate rules, they do not have 60 votes. The dem leadership in the senate has threatened to use a parliamentary maneuver that requires only 50 votes, but that posses it's own problems. Basically, republicans can strip all funding from the bill with a simple ruling from the parliamentarian because all legislation under this rule has to be budget neutral. This would create a strange situation where you have a legal mandate for this huge health care bureaucracy with zero funding to create or operate it.

Next, if the senate passes their own version, then the senate and the house meet to create a bill that they think can pass both. Once they create the final bill, the house and senate have to vote on it once again.

Finally, if that version passes then it goes to Obama. So, even if this passes the house tonight, we are still at least 3 big votes (and probably several months) away from this becoming law or not.

Although that is a big issue, it’s not as important as this bill. When they’re done, if this bill passes, there will be 6 billion citizens of the the US.

yes. It failed. We have to hope that the Pro-Life/Blue Dogs will now change their votes to NO and KILL THIS PIG!

Those of you angry at Republicans not voting FOR the amendment are delusional. Trust me. These commies had orders by Stretch herself to hide somewhere in the bill a clause that would override Stupak, or just strip it out altogether. Rangel admitted as much.

No, but, Reid may vote on the House version as is, bypassing a conference committee and that simple ruling from the parliamentarian could go the other way.

The way Pelosi and her minions are acting tonight I don't put anything past these political low-lifes.

Oh .. listen .. I know that this thing will *probably* never see the light of day in the Senate, but I would like for it to NEVER make it out of the House so I can finally, for the first time in a year, sleep at night! I don’t want even an infantessimal chance of this thing going to the Senate!

But yes .. even if it passes tonight, it’s not the end of the world. But it certainly DOES give us at least 218 targets for next years’ election! If they think they saw anger before ..
