2010 elections: Democratic fears, Republican hopes
ap ^ | 11/7/09 | LIZ SIDOTI

Oh, how the tables have turned.

Nervous Democrats are on defense and emboldened Republicans sense opportunity heading into 2010 and the midterm elections. It was just three years ago that the GOP lost the House and Senate as well as governors' races in a cross-country Democratic wave.

Now, with most states under their control and comfortable majorities in Congress, Democrats must protect far more seats than Republicans: 19 governors' mansions, 17 Senate seats and as many as 60 House districts in moderate-to-conservative regions and swing-voting areas.

At this point, Democrats must do it in a more troubling political environment than in 2006 and 2008.

President Barack Obama clearly recognizes as much. One year after his historic victory, he pleaded for his backers to be patient and asked them to stick with him.

"The challenges might not be met in one year or one term," he said in a video message last week. "We're making progress."

Fear about the economy and anger at incumbents are coursing through the country, while independents wary of government expansion and federal spending under the president they helped elect are shifting toward Republicans.

Democrats will be forced to explain votes and positions on the expensive economic stimulus plan, climate change legislation and, probably, the health care overhaul.

It's AP. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party. They are trying to gin up the Democrat base.

If the Blue Dogs had any sense they would go as a group and announce they weren’t voting and if Pelosi gives them any grief tell her they will vote with the GOP and oust her sorry ass

It doesn’t matter who is the majority. Bush and the Republicans ran things for 6 years and f***ed everything up. Then the Democrats got in control and made everything even worse.

The problem is lack of Conservatives. Democrats and “moderate” Republicans or “compassionate Conservatives” are of the same cloth. They are all the ones who have brought us to this mess. There is no getting out. We are all screwed for good.

Conservatives are NOT the majority or even a plurality in this country. So what if Gallup says 41% of Americans identify themselves a s Coservatives? If you were to ask Jaun McCain, Lindsay Graham, Charlie Crist and other RINO’s, they will tell you they are Conservative as well. It’s B.S. Most Americans don’t know what a true Conservative is or what it means to be a true conservative. I’d say “true Conservatives” only number about 15-20% of the population. The rest are Liberal or Liberal lites.

I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold.

Back in 2006, the Democrats and the media wanted you to believe life in America was terrible. Now, they have the Congress, the White House and most of the media, life in America REALLY is terrible, and they all want you to think things aren’t so bad.

Every generation has to be reminded what happens when you give Democrats total control - high taxes, high unemployment, high crime. But how quickly they forget.

You people don't get it.

They're going to ram illegal amnesty through in the late winter/early spring, in plenty of time to propagandize the new voters about the wonders of their Democrat benefactors/masters.

If any form of Obamacare is passed it won’t matter who the hell is elected in 2010. Once it’s in, it’ll never go away and is destined to grow into a monster.

If it passes, we’re screwed, permanently.

On Tuesday, the voters of New York District 23 barely voted in a liberal in Blue Dog's clothing. In order to get elected he needed the support of a liberal RINO who conveniently dropped out of the race when it was obvious she would be draining votes from the phony Blue Dog and the pelosi liberal agenda. This guy almost lost to an unknown conservative who had been comfortably leading in pre-election polls when three candidates were in contention. He also espoused very Blue Dog type positions in order to be issued his disguise. He publicly stated he would not support the current House version of the healthcare bill if it contained 1) a public option, 2) cuts in Medicare, 3) middle class tax increases, and 4) taxation of healthcare benefits. The bill contains all four stipulations and, within 24 hours of his swearing in ceremony, ultra-liberal, left-winger Bill Owens announced that he would be supporting the current House bill. SURPRIZE? No, typical behavior. If there is any good to come out of this race it is recognition that Blue Dogs and RINOs can't be trusted and will stab those people holding conservative viewpoints (40% of the voting public according to the most recent poll) in the back. Fool me once...

Last year, in traditionally republican New York 29, voters elected another “moderate” democrat by the name of Eric Massa. In late July of this year this Blue Dog threw off his costume and proclaimed he didn't care what his constituents wanted, he would vote for what he thought was right. With any luck at all, come November 2010 this guy will also be toast. I pray zero, pelosi and reid can't pull off anymore of their socialist, statist programs before then.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CONSERVATIVE!!!!

Who gives a $h!t?

All the really important battles will be fought in the next 14 months.

Dems have TWELVE MONTHS to rig elections, buy off voters, stack the courts with liberal judges chomping at the bit to interfere with elections, reinforce ACORN and other corrupt organizations, etc.

I don’t care how many troops you send in after the fight - it will have already been decided.

I am cautiously hopeful, which all of us here are. Republicans have taken full advantage of the new circumstances, which isn’t surprising. At the same time, they haven’t made any huge mistakes this year and I can take some solace in that.

We should take very careful notes on who votes in support of the health care bill. In the constitution it states that if the government stops serving the interest of the citizens it is the right and duty of the citizens to dissolve the government and put in place a government that will serve the people which it represents.

This should be done with all haste. The current Socialists in Congress have gotten out of control. When 70% of the citizens state they do not want government run health care and the Congress passes laws against those wishes then the Congress has stopped serving the interests of the citizens.

I don’t believe that for a minute. You don’t seem to understand that millions of American want this bill. That’s what is killing us.

These Democrat “lawmakers” have very dumb constituents who know nothing about this debate going on now; so these congresspeople can vote as they please.
