House Democratic leaders say President Barack Obama, who made a quick trip to Capitol Hill, inspired their party to pass health care legislation.
Obama met with the Democrats behind closed doors on Saturday morning.
A vote was planned for Saturday evening, and the president is courting fellow Democrats because Republicans intend to oppose the health care bill.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said after the meeting that she couldn't help think of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., who died of brain cancer last summer. Kennedy championed health care reform, and Kennedy said before he died that Obama would inspire a new generation to act.

I saw a bit of her press conference, and it was frustrating. She said today was the 3rd anniversary of the 2006 elections in which Democrats captured control of Congress. She talked building on the work of previous Democrats who had passed Social Security and Medicare. She talked about Ted Kennedy, as he is revered in the liberal world, though not in middle America.
Her speech was all about how wonderful Democrats are, yadda, yadda, yadda. I thought she was really marginalizing anyone who was not a good Democrat.
And here I always thought that our elected officials represent all of us, not just their own political party.............
When this band of traitors pass the bill in the House tonight my thoughts will be on the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom. Sadly the band of traitors are about to undo over 200 years of sacrifice from true patriots.
I am sickened.
I hate these people.
Steal my family’s wealth and give it to Mexicans, union workers and irresponsible gays, drug addicts, etc?
And cripple the economy at the same time?
“May I be the first to say FUBO?”
Yes, and to that I’d like to add POYBO.
They both make me sick!

This cannot possibly be allowed to happen. You’re right, once the government locks us down like this, it completely changes our entire country and spits in the face of the Constitution and our history.
What are we going to do? What are we going to do? I bought a poppy today from an ancient veteran (he was a black American, btw) outside my grocery store today, and I almost burst into tears thinking about how things have changed and how we are now about to install one of the most dictatorial regimes ever.
It’s odd how often he uses that particular finger when photographed.
I think a bigger inspiration will be strong rope and a tall tree.
