Barack Obama has tried to calm racial tensions in the US after the Muslim community voiced fears it would face a backlash from the Fort Hood killings.
The president's intervention follows two days after Muslim army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on colleagues at the military base in Texas, killing 13 and wounding 30.
Hundreds attended a candlelit vigil last night at Ford Hood, the country's largest army camp, while the investigation into the incident is continuing.
Major Hasan, 39, whose spree was stopped when he was shot four times by Police Sergeant Kimberley Munley, remains in a coma.
Mr Obama used his weekly radio and internet address to praise the heroism of those who ended Hasan's rampage and to reassure the nation of the quality of their training.
He spoke of their diversity in a move to calm any anti-Muslim backlash to the killings. Major Hasan was reported to have shouted 'Allahu Akbar', Arabic for 'God is Great', as he jumped on a desk and opened fire. Barack Obama

If Moslims fear a backlash there is an easy way to preempt it:
1. Have every Imam in the US go to their Mosque and denounce this man’s acts AND VIEWS against his own country.
2. Have opinion/interest groups like Cair similarly denounce this guy.
3. Have a big fund raising drive at all Mosques in the US and give all the money to the USO.

The Muslims in this country are afraid that the people in this country maybe are half as psycho as the Muslims themselves. If a Christian had been given citizenship in a Muslim country and randomly killed innocent people while shouting about Christ, the riots would be continuing for weeks.

This has absolutely nothing to do with "racial" tensions and everything to do with ideological fanaticism.
In 1944, there was absolutely nothing wrong with "Germans". One of them, by the name of Eisenhower, was our Supreme Allied Commander. There was, however, something very seriously wrong with the Nazi ideology.
Likewise, today, there is nothing wrong with modern-day "Muslims" that reject the fanaticism radical Islamists just as modern-day Catholics and Protestants in the U.S. reject the religious fanaticism that had their ancestors burning each other at the stake.
The underlying problem with far to many in the U.S. Muslim community is that they are not willing to condemn and root out the fanatics in their community and they then expect the rest of us to ignore reality in the interests of Political Correctness.
