The uncle says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was a sensitive man haunted by the wartime disabilities of soldiers he treated. The Army psychiatrist was not political, his relatives in the West Bank say.
Hamad described his nephew as a gentle soul who once, as a young adult, mourned for three months after rolling over during a nap and crushing his pet parakeet. During medical school, the uncle said, Hasan switched his major to psychiatry after fainting at the sight of blood while delivering a baby.
The young man became more religious after the death of his parents, who were Muslims but not observant, Hamad said. He noticed the change during the visit last year, when his nephew urged him to accompany him to pray at a mosque.
His turn to religion had nothing to do with political identity, Hamad and other West Bank relatives said. He never traveled outside America except for two brief visits to the West Bank, the last one more than a decade ago, they said.
"He never knew anything about politics," Hamad said. "He didn't know who is the president or the king of any Arab country. He's American. . . . He once told me, 'The chances I have in the United States I couldn't have in any other country in the world, so I appreciate what this country has done for me.' "
Hamad said that although his nephew complained last year about ethnic slurs, he appeared to be handling them well.

I don’t give a hoot what the “relatives on the West Bank” have to say about this “good and gentle man.”
Seriously.
Barf
If he were truly Americanized and someone called him a “camel jockey” to his face he would told them to kiss his camel riding ass, right after he kissed the camel’s ass.
parakeet? really?
This has got to be what it was like before Japan invaded HI
Evil taunts like “You’re a freakin Muslim mass murderer!”
I doubt that it was the sight of blood that made him faint.
The whole klan is going to get millions a year from his employers - Saudi Arabia or the Muslim Brotherhood. The LA Times is a POS paper.
On the other hand, they can't wait for the xenophobic, bigoted hicks AKA the American public to draw their own conclusions. We all know where that would lead./s
“He was a good and gentle man.”
I think that over three dozen people and their families would beg to differ.
Fabricated BULLSHIT
The poor dear. Now kill him.
Sure, and those “racists” weren’t disciplined. Sounds like he was the one doing the taunting and we know who did the killing.
Pray for America and Ft Hood
Whatever the reason being proffered, this “sensitive lad” (how DO you roll over unawares on a pet that can fly away, crushing it? that sounds fishy) took Islam’s dictates seriously and from there became a human bomb, if not of the literal suicide bombing variety.
A common sense response would be to get the Slammies out of any position that involves conflict with a Slammie enemy, or even better out of the service. What Bummer is far more likely to do is institute some severe “sensitivity” program so as to bend over backwards not to offend Slammies in the service.
Hey everyone, the L.A. Times has found a new "dream date"!
Richard Boudreaux, why don't you stop being a dhimmi dimwit, and root for our side for a freakin' change?!?
Exactly. He was a major, and he just sat around enduring “taunts” and did nothing? It’s too bad we haven’t gotten to hear from those who worked under him, to hear the truth.
Uncle Hamad is a liar. His nephew worked on Obama's transition team.
The operative word in Corrupt Liberal Media is “corrupt”
The CLM would never spin this type of sympathy for any politically incorrect criminal, but if the perp is an enemy of our country who murders Americans, you can count on it.
They are not the “Mainstream Media” as some conservatives commonly misname them.
They are the Corrupt Liberal Media.
Uncle pork shit can stuff it.
“The uncle says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was a sensitive man haunted by the wartime disabilities of soldiers he treated.”
...So, to put them out of their misery, Hassan killed them.

Thanks Mr Boudreaux, for your deposit.
Good and gentle people don’t kill or maim 40 odd unarmed individuals. As for ‘transferred’ combat stress, which can be a real condition, that’s bogus in his case. We continue to make up excuses for these people in order to avoid facing the truth.
Yeah, one pokes and the other pokes back and that’s usually the end of it. This is probably common in Islamic countries’ own armies.
I read the article and am left with more compassion for the dead parakeet than the demon in human flesh that chose to kill as many U.S. soldiers as possible. Wake him up, rip out his IVs and KILL HIM!!!
Oh, gee wiz, Mohammed.
The murderer only stated that he believe killing Americans with suicide bombs was appropriate, and he angrily stated that he was against America's war against terrorism for political reasons.
What is it with the Mohammeds and pathological lying?
Ahhhh, come on folks it’s time for a group hug and a round of Kumbayah.
Newspapers like the LA Times continue to leave me floored, stunned, open-mouthed with astonishment.
I can’t believe this.
They call up one of his relatives and report everything they say as if it were a news story.
The ‘relatives’ had their story straight a long time ago. They know what the current line is; ‘it was all because of stress’. The ‘stress’ meme is now paramount throughout the MSM. Everyone parrots it like automatons.
The first question asked at the news conference at Fort Hood yesterday was ‘When is the Army going to do something about the over-the-top suicide rates among soldiers?’ The FIRST QUESTION!!
I don’t know who the brain-dead reporter was, but the questions following were about the same.
I don’t think the suicide rates in the Army are indeed over the top but that is beside the point.
Amazing, this ability to believe one thing while all evidence, all indications, all facts point in exactly the opposite direction.
BS..
This AM we see pictures of him “stalking” the Israeli Ambassador. This guy was planning something for a long time and wasn’t driven by anything but his hatred of Christians and Jews.
We need to clean out the military of those with ties to Wahabists and others with radical relatives. This is war..not a game.
So haunted that he goes out and slaughters a bunch in cold blood.
The journalist who wrote this is insane.
Does anybody know if his trial will fall under military law or Texas law?
Sadly, I have more confidence in the state of Texas reaching justice here than military courts overseen by our current Commander in Chief.
We should start making blogs with lists with people like this writer.
No threats, etc....just lists.
Let their imagination do the talking.
One of the top sources of stress has to be being led by a vacillating idiot like the Bummer.
Get him well enough to Hang!
Yep. He wouldn't have lasted long in the freight business.
MAJ Mohammed got a PCS order to Fort Hood, and that is his "transition stress" to justify buying anti-armor ammunition and firearms to go on a murderous rampage?
Sheesh.
If Mohammed's terrorist attacks are justified by that bullsh!t, then one can only imagine what kind of murderous ramage is entitled to Soldiers who are PCS'ed to Fort Irwin, Fort Riley or Fort Drum.
13 good and gentle people are dead. 13 good families have lost their wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, children.
This man was an evil bas@#$%. I have no sympathy.
Saw a sign in San Francisco it said,”BORN AGAIN BIGOTS, GO AWAY”. Reminds me also of the government funded cross in a urine art scandal. Everybody’s a victim.
He was haunted by THEIR disabilities?
I call bullsh!t on this. If he actually cared for others, he wouldn't have killed innocents.
This dude was on jihad!
“Ft. Hood shooting suspect endured work pressure and ethnic taunts, uncle says”
If I shot everyone who called me names, ethnic slurs, etc, half of FreeRepublic would be dead.
I suspect that much of Mister hasan's claims were either self inflicted or just made up. After all, he was trying to make a case to weasel out of the Army; and, this is one avenue to attempt such a dishonorable path.
.
A "good and gentle" man would not shoot dozens of people.
Who knows, this sub-human animal might have been a good man before being infected with the Islam virus. Since he was born into a household that was infected, and he grew up infected, it will be impossible to ever know if he was genetically disposed towards being a vicious man-pig, or if the Islam infection rotted away a normal person. It’s a well known fact that Islam pigifies people, even whole nations that don’t eradicate it. Just look at the Mideast.
So how does such a gentle soul end up doing such a thing? Either he wasn’t a gentle soul or Islam is a very dangerous and evil religion that makes people do horrible things. Which one is it, Uncle in the West Bank?
The democrats, islamic terrorists and other assorted dangerous people are scrambling for excuses on this loser.
It's really, really sad to see and hear the garbage oozing out of these people, and shows us their true colors.
This is nothing.
Mohamed Atta had incredible work pressure and a very mean boss. He felt very insecure in his ability to do his assigned job as a pilot and had nothing but lackeys for support. This was bound to build up into a nasty situation.
9-11 was not a terrorist attack but a workplace incident.
Violence is getting ready to break out and I’m not talking about the type we’ve been witnessing....I’m talking about American violence. Personally I have had it and am waiting for that powder keg to erupt. This Healthcare issue is being hotly debated.....I have no TV and can’t get a live stream but have read comments that’s there’s screaming going on.
And regarding your comment about waking him up...I agree with everything except I would add: smear his body with pig guts slowly and then kill him
