A Michigan congressman has released a report from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation confirming that the House Democrats' health-care bill could impose penalties of up to $250,000 in fines and five years in jail for failing to buy the proper insurance coverage.
"This is the ultimate example of the Democrats' command-and-control style of governing buy what we tell you or go to jail," said U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich.
"It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately," he said today.
The letter of confirmation from the Joint Committee on Taxation was signed by Chief of Staff Thomas Barthold. His analysis confirmed individuals who fail to follow the rules actually could be penalized both with civil and criminal punishments.
"The Code provides for both civil and criminal penalties to ensure complete and accurate reporting of tax liability and to discourage fraudulent attempts to defeat or evade tax," Barthold's letter said. "Civil and criminal penalties are applied separately.

Ping.
Is there a jail big enough?
Who is going to enforce it?
I’m not buying it. And since I quit my job just so I would participate in this disaster, my employer is not buying it. If Obambi want’s me insured, he can pay for it himself.
I can’t believe that would be constitutional. What about folks like the Amish that do not have insurance for religious reasons?
Nazi Pelosi should have been in jail already instead we have the b*tch as speaker of the house.
>>What about folks like the Amish that do not have insurance for religious reasons?
If you don’t worship Allah or a tree, the current US government doesn’t care about your religious reasons.
How long before no insurance = immediate execution? I mean really . . the kooky ideas being floated around now make my head spin.
And of course “the poor” as defined by a series of politically correct “measurements” controlled by Pelosi, won’t have to by a g-dmn thing.
Hmmm - if Omabacare passes, how long will it be before Congress passes a bill that makes Americans buy a {government-owned} GM car now or go to jail. It would make the car industry go thru the roof, wouldn’t it?
I guess that's one way to build up a slush fund.
Every day there's one more Bizarro World headline.
It isn’t the jail, it’s when they seize all your assets in fines and penalties. It’s when your car, your home, your personal assets, everything you own and intended to bequeath to your heirs, is sold at govt auction, and a year or so of hearing your entire family begging you to behave yourself for their sake...that’s when it starts to sting. THEN jail.
You can still refuse, resist, go Galt. It’s the right thing to do.
Just sayin!
And once you have a criminal record, forget welfare. They may not want to help you!
“Buy insurance or go to jail”
A five word description of the “government option” that took 2,000 pages to say in the house bill.
If you take it down to a single word, EXTORTION, will suffice.
The Democrats are following that “real change comes from the barrel of a gun” just as their hero Mao once claimed.
“A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to preserve or obtain their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”
“When the people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government fears the people you have liberty.”
Thomas Jefferson
I’ve been trying to find out what happens with illegal aliens, those on welfare, the unemployed , etc. - how do they pay? If their premiums are paid by everybody else like now, why are the Democraps saying that medical costs will go down per capita?
Cause the Democrats are lying about the cost.
Maybe we’ll finally get that border fence we’ve been wanting.....to keep us in. The Democrats would probably go for it in that case.
I don’t even have to read the bill to know that anyone who claims a low income isn’t going to have to pay like the rest of us and definitely won’t go to jail.
You and I know that whole swaths of our cities populations will be on a free ride—just like they receive healthcare now.
Virtually every county in the country has provisions for treating the indigent. They don’t have a insurance policy but they are treated anyway.
Theres no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there arent enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? Whats there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now thats the system, Mr. Reardon, thats the game, and once you understand it, youll be much easier to deal with.

We’ll have them outnumbered! As long as we don’t help them build the prisons, we’ll be fine. ;)
In the previous version the IRS enforced it by having access to your bank account. You can wake up and find that your account has been emptied. Or they can take it from your wages before you are paid. What it comes down to is that we all need an alternate identity, one to satisfy the government and appear poor and desperate, and our real one. That becomes the only method of keeping what is yours.
Civil disobedience on a massive scale is the only thing left before the hot revolution begins!!
The democrats should be aware that real resistance also comes from the barrel of a gun.
hmmmm.

(Just trying it on for size)...
lol...i like it!
I'd guess that they ‘ll soon be living thru another real life learning opportunity that goes like this...
LIVE by the sword, DIE by the sword.
The next big “teachable moment” will be coming in the next elections in 2010.
Others will follow as required...
