Hitler house sale alarms locals
bbc ^

The sale of Adolf Hitler's family home in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn has triggered concern that it could become a shrine for Nazi sympathisers.

The unassuming house where Hitler was born in 1889 has been put on the market priced at 2.2m euros (£1.9m; $3.3m).

Residents and local politicians fear that the property could fall into the hands of far-right extremists.

Braunau's mayor Gerhard Skiba wants to prevent that happening, but the council does not have the funds to buy it.

The building is currently used by an organisation helping the disabled and has at various times in its history housed a library, bank and technical institute.

Some historians have suggested turning the building into a museum.

However Mr Skiba vigorously opposes the idea, saying it would encourage people from all over the world to visit the site.

For the time being, the only reminder of the building's infamous past is a small memorial dedicated to the victims of the Nazis.

Reminds me of the Rockford Files episode of “Just Another Polish Wedding” where two of Rockford’s rivals go into a nazi bar and one says rightwing and national socialist in the same sentence. Good episode though.

If the locals are so concerned about who would buy it I guess they should buy it and do with what they want.

And how about California house prices?

For those who want it torn down;

Who owned after Adolf Hitler no longer lived there, which I would assume was about the time he got drafted into WW1 ?

If Hitler himself had no ownership in the house where is the justice in destroying someone else home?

Should we tear down every house that was once slept in by a murderer?

Does anyone think the house is responsible for the atrocities ordered by A. Hitler?

Let the Nazi sympathizers visit it as a shrine,as long as they pay $100 each day's visit to the Holocaust memorial fund. And you can put their names on a list of people to be watched .

sorry but you are wrong. at least if we talk about europe.
you can´t compare the european political systems with the american. it just doesn´t fit. fact is the Nazi party was a right wing party in europe. everyone would agree on this.
usually parties are considered right wing when they are for example against immigration, more nationalistic.... has nothing to do with sozialism.

That’s what the British did with Spandau Prison in Berlin after Rudolf Hess died. They razed the building, pulverized the bricks, and dumped it into the North Sea so that nothing could be claimed as a shrine to Neo-Nazis.

...in europe. the nazi party is viewed as far right wing.

Only because of the "Nationalist" part of their name, and the fact that the competing ideology of the day was Communism.

it´s indeed the “nationalist” part (but not only because of the name). as said in europe beeing viewed as left or right wing has little to do with socialism because all parties prefer a form of “socialism” to govern.

as far as i know hitler had a sister. so in theory it was her house untill she died. and you are right it´s only a house. but given the fact that indeed some nazi sympathizers maybe would worship this it´s understandable that the locals don´t want this people in town.

which I would assume was about the time he got drafted into WW1 ?

It's my recollection that he volunteered. He didn't want to fight for Austria, so he went to Bavaria and signed up.

You’ve fallen for the left’s propaganda and the redefining of the term to suit their agenda. The Nazi agenda was almost identical to the socialist agenda of today whether in Europe or here. Germany lost the war but National Socialism succeeded and spread to most of the world.

Free market capitalism is pretty much dead. But the classroom bureaucrats in the socialized schools teach that it is National Socialism that is dead. The West has embraced Hitler’s 1939 platform and implemented most of his policies. The U.S. is debating putting the final nail in the watered down capitalism we have here even as we speak.

The leftists don’t want their subjects to know they are advancing Hitler’s agenda. Consequently, they have changed the definition of National Socialism to being rightist instead of leftist. They did the same thing with the term liberal.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, et al were liberals. They were not leftists, nor were they collectivists or leftists.

Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan were rightists. They had nothing in common with Nazis. They wanted to roll back the National Socialism we suffer under in our respective countries.

The left learned long ago that by controlling the definition of words and terms they can control the debate and advance their evil agenda. The term “right wing Nazi” is Newspeak. It’s like saying war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength or callng the secret police the "Ministry of Love" or calling the Ministry of War the "Ministry of Peace".

oh i know that the left loves to shout nazi.
but to stay objective calling someone a nazi (regardless if he is left or right wing) doesn´t make much sense at all. because as long a political party does not plan a “little industrialized genocide” it´s “hard” to catch up to the Nazi regime. but to understand why Europeans consider the NSDAP for example as a far right wing party (this does not mean that all right wing parties are considered as Nazis “ok there for you have to ignore the extreme leftist because they will still call every one who Right of them a Nazi”) you have to understand that the view of a left or a right wing party is total different from the US. for example something like socialized healthcare would never be a issue between left or right wing parties in europe (ok maybe every party thinks that they know whats best in detail) but they would all agree that the concept of socialized healthcare isn´t even worth a debatte. because this is just a given fact here no one wants to change for example. they do differ on immigration, military, crime... it´s difficult to explain but for example i´m pretty shure that even a far right wing party in europe would sometimes fit into the party program of the US democrats. while a more moderate party maybe could also fit into the republican party sometimes. It´s just total different in europe. there is no way to compare the US parties to European parties and there for the view of what is considered left or right wing total differs between the US and Europe.

Then by that logic we should never call a communist a communist either. Stalin’s communist party killed many more Jews, and other “undesirables” than the Nazis did. Add to those dead the multiple millions killed by Mao’s communist party, and the ethnic cleansing done by the communist party in Cambodia.

The left only hates Hitler because he lost the war. His theory of government is popular and being followed by Western Europe and increasingly by the U.S.

As you point out, the concept of socialized medicine would not divide what has come to be called left and right in Europe. The leftists have completely transformed the language and redefined the terms left and right so that anyone to the right of Mao is a rightist. Hitler is now a rightist in Europe because he was to the right of Stalin and to the right of most Western European nations today. They’ve enacted his entire 1939 platform and gone to the left of it. The left here is racing to catch up.

I agree that the popular meanings of terms left and right are different in Europe than in the U.S. I don’t want the U.S. to adopt the European Newspeak meaning of the terms.
