Barack Obama’s Mandate Gap
NRO ^ | November 06, 2009 | Rich Lowry

On November 3, the fairy tale died. The election results in Virginia and New Jersey dismantled the self-satisfied, just-so story that Democrats have been telling themselves about last year’s election.

The story goes like this: In 2008, Americans voted for change not just in the nation’s leadership, but in its fundamental political orientation. They wanted a shift to the left not seen since 1932. The nation’s political map had been utterly transformed. Barack Obama owned the suburbs and independents, and laid claim to formerly secure Republican states. An outdated GOP had been reduced to a rejectionist husk clinging to rural areas and the South.

A more modest rival interpretation explained it differently: A charming young man running against a Republican party debilitated by its association with an unpopular war and a politically toxic incumbent won a solid 7-point victory nationally. He sounded reasonable and moderate, and won for his party something important, if not necessarily epoch-making: a chance to govern after the other side had blown it.

Obama’s mistake is governing as if he has a heroic mandate when he really has a modest one.

He didn't win for any of those reasons, he won because he was black. The first affirmative action president. Any white person with 0bama's lack of credentials would have been laughed off the political stage.

As long as he has the votes in Congress, a compliant media, a compliant Supreme Court, the grassroots support of Acorn and the unions, as well as millions in funding from Soros he can continue to behave as he wishes.

It turns out Barack Obama classic mantra phrase needs translation.

His “I won” pertaining to Nov. 2008 actually means in late 2009....
“I am history”.

What the Democrats seem unwilling to address is the fact that “independents” were attracted to the Dems by a set of carefully constructed campaign lies by the Democrat Party Propaganda machine.

How quickly they forget the faux “Centrist” 2008 promises of Dear Reader i.e. “Tax cuts for 95% of Americans” “Most transparent Administration in History” “Energy Independence in 10 years” etc etc etc

What is the one thing the bulk of “Independents” consistently vote against? Fiscally irresponsible spending and corruption.

They fired Bush and the GOP based on the notion that they had become entranced in the corrupt practices of DC and were irresponsible with the people's money.

They hired Obama on the mistaken notion that he was going to ride into DC clean up the corruption (Most open administration in history) who would be a “post racial” president while giving “tax cuts to 95% of Americans”.

Slowly, because the “Independents” are sheep easily lead by the Junk Media, the “Independents” are waking up to the fact that Dear Reader is every bit as corrupt while being even more irresponsible with the Public Purse.

Independents are at heart conservatives in outlook. The recent Gallup poll validated that data.

A bold Conservative agenda that focuses on the traditional values of the USA (fiscal responsibility, open, honest, smaller Government, moral accountability in leadership, a principled strong national defense, while also presenting a serious rational approach for addressing such issues as Energy Independence, real health insurance reform, and lead by someone untainted by the inherent corruption of DC will attract them in droves to GOP candidates. It did last week in VA, in NJ, and it will in 2010

A lecture from Rich "Big Government" Lowry. Does he feel any shame?

Now the Obama mantra today on Congress is that they have to save his presidency by voting for health-care reform tomorrow. Not even twelve months in and he sees jeopardy in 2012.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

(FWIW, 'Barack' is the Hebrew word for 'lightening')...
