On Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, the day after the Elections, in which the GOP took both State Houses in VA and NJ, 7 top elected Hardin County, TX officials held a joint news conference, and all 7 switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP.
Could this be the beginning of a "movement" ?
Yep
Bump For Morning
It’s time to start kicking ass!
Bump!
Wouldn’t it be something if all those blue dog dems came out and switched parties? How about we pray for that.
RINOs are not welcome. I think that they should have to vote and act like a Republican for at least 6 months, then they will be accepted into the party.
Does the GOP think that 7 guys in one county switching to GOP is gonna make those of us who are fed up with the party come back “home”? Simply calling yourself a Republican means next to nothing. Show us the “money”. We want to see conservative behavior by Republicans otherwise, i for one will be supporting only true Conservatives who are like Sarah Palin no matter what party they belong to.
NEVER trust a Democrat.
Link and news story please.
Vanity????????
In the comments to the article MJ Samuelson says the following:
“I think this is really telling, actually, about the state of the Democratic party nationally. Were talking about rural yellow dog Democrats, conservative as all get-out but whose families have been Democrats since Reconstruction. This is a really historic move in Hardin, Palo Pinto, and McCulloch counties. I think people forget, it wasnt very long ago that Texas was a Democrat state. It was thanks to John Tower and Ronald Reagan that the face of the Republican Party began to change in Texas, but for a long, long time, rural Dems held on to their identity because of history. You know it must be bad if theyre changing parties. And most of them are elected officials who, because of state law, are elected by partisan vote, but whose positions are not necessarily partisan in nature.
This is exciting news, and in my opinion it is more important for Texas Republicans and conservatives than what happened in New Jersey and Virginia.”
Schweet!!! More RINOs !!!!
Hmmmm. What do you make of this?
I was hoping some of the blue dog Democrats would defect to the GOP. They have nothing in common with the RATS any more!
“......More Rino’s”
You are not familiar with Hardin County, Texas. It’s a very Conservative County. IIRC, Obama got about 20% of that County’s vote. The people have been voting Republican in National and State elections for decades but would vote Dem for local office. That’s only changing now.
I’m a sort of in-law with one of these guys and I can tell you that he’s as Conservative as I am and I consider myself in the top 10% of the most Conservative Freepers.
In East Texas, most local officials are Conservative whether they are D or R.
FWIW, the “Yellow Dog Democrat” tradition started after the excesses of “Reconstruction”.
That’s pretty much the story in Lamar county also.
Not good news. We need to be sending the RINOs packing.
Is this David Brooks type of conservatism?
Unfortunately I wouldn’t consider this a very big deal. I grew up in Beaumont, Hardin County is nearby. Some politicians remain Democrats in that area simply because it was a Democrat stronghold for about 100 years, as was Texas in general. They represent the last vestiges of the conservative southern Democrats. We’re talking good ol’ boys who have as much in common with Obama, Pelosi, and crew as they would martians. A switch to the Republican Party for these folks is less surprising than, say, Specter becoming a Democrat. In other words, what took you so damn long? I suppose they recognized that any association with the Obama brand represented political death in their county.
[all 7 switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP.]
Good deal for THEM, now they can get funding and support from the GOP and still keep their liberal views.
They will be nothing more than ‘sleepers’ inside the Republican Party.
Bingo. Remember how excited everyone was when hundreds of Democrats 'jumped ship' to the Republican Party back in the 90's? They changed parties, but that was about it...
Can you not see the valiant job our elected Republican representatives are doing? Everyone of them is against this monster and you can’t give them credit? What more do you want?
I want more. Straightening up for awhile because they’re getting bitten by upstart Conservatives doesn’t sell me yet.
My excellent congressman, Steve King is missing his son's wedding to do his duty in DC. Believe it or not, some purists here in Iowa think that even Steve King is not good enough. Unrealistic expectations.
I see you're a great grandma so i won't say what i would normally say to someone who posted that to me.
I didn’t mean it in a nasty way. As a matter of fact, I was being playful about it. Sorry.
Then we’re good.
That’s what I tell my Blue Dog Dem everytime I call or write his office. I told him to his face at his townhall. He looked shocked. I guess his staff doesn’t relay messages.
He’s a goner in 2010 and he knows it.
Nope, ‘fraid not my friend. Texas has become a solid GOP State. These ol’ boys in Hardin County were more along the line of Truman Democrats not Obama Democrats. Like most Texans, they just could NOT be affiliated with the Socialist Democratic Party any longer.
Sarah’s the (wo)man!
Some merit to your concerns. But in Texas if there wasn't party switching to the GOP the Democrats would still be the ones in office. Many Texas GOP people came via the party switching. This area is a strong democrat area and the county this group is in is being invaded by basically white flight from Jefferson county where you still can't elect a Republican countywide. The local politicans mostly are conservative but as they said in the announcement 'you had to be a democrat on the ballot to be elected'. I would suspect they have much more in common with Republicans rather than democrats.
Here is an another article about the switch. I wish them good luck.
7 Hardin County officials switch to GOP
By BLAIR DEDRICK ORTMANN
November 4, 2009
Seven Democratic Hardin County elected officials announced Wednesday they will become Republicans.
Sheriff Ed Cain, who confirmed his switch earlier this week, was joined at Wednesdays formal announcement by County Judge Billy Caraway, Precinct 4 Commissioner Bobby Franklin, County Attorney Rebecca Walton, Precinct 5 Constable Wayne McDaniel, Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Kent Walker and Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Butch Cummings.
As each of the officials spoke, they repeated the same theme their beliefs and values have stayed the same, but are no longer reflected by the Democratic Party.
In addition, several said that when they first ran for office, they knew they would not be elected if they didnt run as a Democrat.
end snips
Good deal for THEM, now they can get funding and support from the GOP and still keep their liberal views.
They will be nothing more than sleepers inside the Republican Party.
In this case I doubt you know of which you pontificate about.

It was just my opinion sans pontification, this site was designed for submitting those opinions. You get to submit yours and I mine.
Agree, no problems as that is what we do.
