Obama has a 'Pet Goat' Moment
The Washington Times ^ | November 8, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 11/06/2009 8:51:45 PM PST by Abakumov

Hours after the Fort Hood massacre, a grieving nation looked to the president for consolation and leadership. Instead, it got light banter and a "shout-out" before President Obama read a perfunctory statement. The president has always had a reputation for coolness, but in this case, he was utterly detached. He can't blame the scriptwriter for his astonishing lack of empathy.

Bush's "pet goat" moment was one in which he calmly took in the new reality and waited for information. Yeah, he looked a little stunned--weren't we all?

Obama didn't have that kind of moment. He was being his usual robotic self, doing the thing that was most important to him, kissing a voting bloc's ass, when he should have been doing his friggin job.

I watched the Obozo’s “statement” on Fox and was horrified. He had two or three minutes of shuck and jive with his “shout out” to a (not) Congressional Medal recipient (whom he called a medal “winner” - does one “win” such an award?), and then read a meaningless statement about the killings. He is completely tone deaf to others’ needs, and has all the leadership ability of a slug.

Obama off Teleprompter: Obama Gives Shout Out to 'Congressional Medal of Honor Winner' Who Isn't

By Mike Bates (Bio | Archive) November 6, 2009 - 01:18 ET

The Washington Post this afternoon reported "President Obama delivers remarks on Ft. Hood shooting at end of tribal leaders conference." The transcript begins:

SPEAKER: PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

[*] OBAMA: Please, everybody, have a seat. Let me first of all just thank Ken and the entire Department of the Interior staff for organizing just an extraordinary conference.

I want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It's good to see you.

Ah, the dangers of giving shout outs without a teleprompter. Crow is not a Medal of Honor recipient. As noted by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society:

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often called the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Crow's name is not included on the Society's Medal of Honor recipient list. He was, however, awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in August.

Obama, often described as "cerebral" by the mainstream media, should know the difference between the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom, especially since he personally awarded the latter to Crow. Don't expect his blunder to receive wide coverage. It's not something he can blame George Bush for.

I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard it.
My first thought was, "Did he just seriously give a shout out to someone during a tragic chapter of American history?" and lo & behold I did hear correctly.
This joker is in way, way, way over his head. He does not deserve to be in that office.

As a right of passage, most muslims have a “pet goat” moment. That is how most males in Islam lose their virginity.

Never heard of a pet goat moment before.

I think he’s made it very clear where he stands. He stands besides ayers, wright, and the commie czars. He does not stand beside us. He’s acting like he got a flat tire on the way to one of his special dates. This is a “flat tire” moment, an annoyance that he will hope gets fixed fast so he can move along. And to quote his psuedo pastor, “america, home of the greed and slaves”. He does not care.. Any thing he does now will be a little too late.

"Pet Goat Moment" refers to Bush reading "My Pet Goat" to the grade-school kids on 9/11. Google Bush "My Pet Goat" and you'll get an eyeful.

Someone who doesn’t know the difference between the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom is unfit to be president of the United States.

Instead of exclusively focusing on “victim studies” and navel-gazing perhaps Mr. Obama should have paused for some hero studies at some point during his youth.

Anyone want to bet Obama would not have the first clue who Audie Murphy was?

Another reason why it was a mistake to have elected someone whose background and culture is so weakly connected to America.

Cold like an ice-cycle!

I guess that if W was in the W.H., he would have fired up AF-1 and been at Ft. Hood within hours after the shooting!!

It took the illegal alien and usurper 4+ hours to come out of the wood shed with a stone cold statement, what a disgrace for the teleprompter-in-chief!!!

And it wasn't even a Congressional Medal of Honor. It was a Presidential Medal of Freedom which Obama himself awarded to him on August 12! In BO's defense, that was SUCH a long time ago.

The emotional shift was jarring and confusing. It was as though he were an actor switching scripts heedless of the emotional content of the event he was addressing.

There's an understatement...I could not believe I was hearing such a chipper tone from that idiot. He made the soldiers seem like an afterthought. It was sickening.

Mr. Bush also suffered his critics' ire for reading "The Pet Goat" to a group of schoolchildren at Emma E. Booker Elementary School after he was informed of the aircraft hitting the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. He was charged with being out of touch, indecisive, tuned out. He was said to be unable to grasp the significance of the events unfolding around him.

The new president's performance on Thursday afternoon was similar.

Um...no.

President Bush was in front of a group of (real) children who expected to have a story read to them by the President of the United States. Events were unfolding, and I daresay President Bush had a keen grasp of the gravity of the situation. However, he was mindful that he was in front of a group of real children (which is different from a group of adult Democrats) who did not need to be unduly disturbed. I saw his finishing of the story not as "out of touch", but rather completely "in touch" and quite cognizant of the fact that he was in front of children.

Zero, in contrast, was out of touch and out of line.

I think I will stop reading the editorial now.

Absolutely right. The camera captured the moment Bush found out about the 9/11 attacks.

Obama 's speech was over 3 hours after the news broke about the Ft Hood shooting. We did not get his intial reaction, but we got a statement that had plenty of prep-time and still reflected an incredible callousness toward the tragedy.

Plenty of time. I think I've said elsewhere that he should have lead off with those prepared remarks about the shooting. I was utterly appalled at this idiot's chipper, upbeat lilt in his voice (as contrasted with his usual measured... slow... um...cadence...and, uh...dulcet...tone)

Yes..and I thought the story/script boring. Direction lacked continuity. The cast does the best with it that they can so don't fault them but they did get paid heavily for this project, so what did they care. For being in Iraq it was pretty boring. All male cast.

I would not recommend it unless you are into LSD and then might see something I didn't.

I am not trying to get people not to see it. My personal opinion & I see about every film as it comes out.

It was light comedy and I enjoyed it. I seldom go to the movies. Clooney did very well in his part I thought. I don’t agree with his politics of course but he has a right to his opinion - no matter how wrong. As the old saying goes . . no goats, no glory. Of course my hearing is failing so they may not be exact.
