Eugene Robinson: Attack of the Palinites (Smell the flop sweat!)
The Washington Post ^ | November 6, 2009 | Eugene Robinson

Posted on 11/06/2009 7:24:40 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Democrats have some thinking to do after Tuesday's elections, but Republicans don't have time to think. They're too busy trying to survive the party's internal purge and avoid being shipped off to political Siberia.

Will loyal members inform on others for harboring suspiciously moderate views? Will anyone judged guilty have to wear a sign saying "Republican In Name Only" as penance? Will there be re-education camps? Will deviationists face the Enhanced Interrogation Technique of being forced to listen to the wit and wisdom of Glenn Beck, at ear-splitting volume, for days on end?

Or worse: When Sarah Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue," hits bookstores later this month, will the ideologically impure be required to read -- and commit to memory -- every golden word? Her publisher might consider culling the highlights into a pocket edition. That way, any Republican caught without a copy of "Quotations From Chairman Sarah" could be summarily expelled from the party.

The big story from Tuesday's vote ought to be that independents, who gave Democrats their sweeping victory last November, went with the Republicans this time in New Jersey and Virginia. Indeed, Democrats are trying to figure out what this means. Given President Obama's continuing personal popularity, has his cool, nonconfrontational, consensus-building style been the right strategy all along? Or, as some on the left believe, did a lack of fight and fervor leave independents cold? Or was it all about the unemployment numbers?

But the Democrats' soul-searching is far less compelling than the Republicans' civil war. The "tea party" conservatives -- led by Palin, Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Armey and others fed up with the GOP "establishment" -- managed to get Democrat Bill Owens elected in a solidly Republican Upstate New York congressional district.(continued)

The “big tent,” compromising-on-principle-to-the-point-of-irrelevance RNC has definitely worked out the last couple of election cycles. For the Democrats.

The word that first comes to mind is “disjointed”.

“Smell the flop sweat” isn’t a bad summary either!

I think they don’t exactly know what hit them.

I PRAY they don’t figure out what hit them. They don’t want to admit the truth, and I don’t think they will.

Sarah just gave a great speech at the Wisconsin Right To Life. Someone who was inside was twittering what was happening, great speech. She just keeps on getting better and better. Sean hannity also has a advanced copy of her book, he said he can’t put it down it’s so great. Wanna know why those groups of people fear her so much, PURE JEALOUSY, they hate her because they wish they were her

What a stupid pig-f*cker.

He should read the day-by-day polls in NY 23.

And then recall that "the party's" candidate, Scuzzy, was to the left of the Dem.

Here is what really happened. A liberal was about to get elected, and Sarah Palin, without even campaigning in person, eliminated the RINO and came within a whisker of electing a conservative, with only a few weeks remaining in the campaign, against a concerted effort by the DC moles to get a liberal in at all costs.

Step-by-step, it goes like this:

1) There was no primary to allow people’s true positions to be aired — party officials in consultation with DC RINOs chose Scuzzy.

2) A month ago Hoffmann was mired in last place.

3) Sarah Palin spoke up, but did not campaign in person. A couple of Tweets and/or Facebook postings.

(Contrast this, by the way, to the multiple PERSONAL appearances that Obama(+) put in for Corzine and Deeds. FAIL.)

4) Hoffmann surged.

5) The RINOs did a double-pronged attack. The GOP hierarchy and heavy hitters — including GOP chair Steele and RINO-turncoat-Newt — publicly endorsed Scuzzy.

6) The GOP also spent $900,000 on Scuzzy.

7) At the last minute, Scuzzy dropped out. This had the effect of negating all of the GOP-cast absentee ballots, now guaranteed to be wasted for purposes of defeating the DEM.

8) To make the stab in the back DOUBLY sure, Scuzzy officially, and in public, endorsed the DEM. (WTF???)

9) Hoffman still came within 3% as a Third Party candidate, after coming from nowhere to remove the hand-picked GOP RINO quisling.

10) But all you can do is say “we lost, boo hoo.”

I beg to differ.

Cheers!

LOL, Good Lord, it seems like 90% of liberal writers have the emotional make-up of a radicalized college freshman. The dripping contempt they have for anyone but their fellow Marxists is funny. This is really pathetic, and this is in the Washington Post, it seems the left has run out of psuedo-intellectuals, this is just sophomoric.

They couldn't. But you'll find that the politicians *encourage* early voting by absentee ballot, as it locks in votes early, so voters can't change their mind in response to misbehaviour by the politician right before Election Day.

Cheers!

The Dems are near to giveing each other wedgies over this. They don’t know what to do. Conservatives were supposed to have disappeared by now, gone the way of the dinosaurs, and by gad we are back stronger than ever and meaner than a junk yard dog.

They have never seen us like this. But then they have never threatened to destroy the country like this either.

When we reach critical mass, they will only wail, and wet their pants. The bigger surprise is coming down the pike.
This article proves one thing. We are over the target.

This passage is gold. it illustrations how delusional some in the Obama camp are.

“Given President Obama’s continuing personal popularity, has his cool, nonconfrontational, consensus-building style been the right strategy all along? Or, as some on the left believe, did a lack of fight and fervor leave independents cold?”

If he just would have blamed Bush more often and been more vocal about his socialist agenda, then the independents would still love him.

Yeah...that’s the ticket.

Dede was to the left of Owens -- selecting her was a gross dereliction of duty.

This way, we have no divided loyalties: and Owens is due to get thrown out in 2010. Likely enough by Hoffmann.

Nice try, but I fear Axelrod's voice has lost its charm.

A cross dereliction of duty is to impose a outsider with no connections to the district and not considering the local party or its views.

Hoffman is not a local of the district and he wont get the nomination for being a loser with a gomer pyle personality.

The NY repubs will nominate a better candidate in 2010 and Hoffman will try playing spoiler but wont succeed.

You gave your game away, little troll.

Hoffman was organic, and ran on his own. Scuzzy was imposed by local party bosses in conjunction with your RINO friends in D.C.; and proved her true worth by actively endorsing the Democrat.

Nice try, but you are wasting your time.

I'm cheering the expungement of the RINO.

Which the turncoats in D.C. should never have supported, either verbally or with $900,000 of increasingly rare contributions.

If they had got behind Hoffman as they should, he'd have won in a landslide.

And if Dede had won, she'd have been voting with and for Pelosi all the way ANYWAY.

Remember who she endorsed when she withdrew?

Nice try, troll-child.

The phrase; “casting about wildly” might be applicable here.

Republicans will get behind the Republican nominee, why a troll like you expects Republican money to support third party candidates? It is ridiculous.

Anyway Owens has said he is supporting the public option ( which Dede opposed) and he can think Hoffman for getting him elected.

I expect Republican money to support conservatives.

If the GOP had put their weight behind a conservative, instead of a liberal to the LEFT of Owens, who endorsed Owens, we'd have had a conservative in the seat.

Steele's fault; Gingrich's fault; the DC RINOs' (who apparently colluded with the local party bosses to foist the liberal on the voters) fault.

Please, go on again, and explain how supporting a conservative over someone to the left of the Democrat, who was pro-abortion, pro-cap-and-tax, etc., makes one a troll ON FREE REPUBLIC.

Ping Jim Robinson while you're at it. Maybe you can convince him.
