Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be the Republican speaker at the Gridiron Club's Winter Dinner on Dec. 5, the club announced Friday.
Gridiron Club President Dick Cooper told club members earlier this afternoon that Palin accepted an invitation to speak at the black-tie affair, according to a member of the club's executive committee.
Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for Palin, confirmed that Palin planned to address the dinner in an e-mail to POLITICO: "The Governor was honored to accept the invitation."
Also speaking at the dinner will be Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), whom the club invited to represent his party at the event.
Palin has made few public appearances since her unsuccessful campaign for vice president last year, recently declining an invitation to address the Iowa Family Policy Center, a social conservative group in a state critical to the presidential nominating process.
Palin's attendance at the exclusive event put on by a group of top Washington journalists will mark the second time the former Alaska governor has flown to the capital to mix with the city's political elite. Earlier this year she attended the annual dinner put on by the Alfalfa Club, an insiders' organization that exists to throw an off-the-record winter bash.
Her planned appearance at the Gridiron also follows in the footsteps of another ambitious young politician: President Barack Obama spoke at the dinner in 2006.
Sarah really wants to promote her book. What the heck is the Gridiron Club, except a lot of liberal journalists?
Sarah in the same room with Barney’s Frank..Sarah, be careful, Barney is pure evil
Hockey mom wows Gridiron crowd.
If aliens came from another planet and wanted to know what a Conservative is like and what a Liberal is like, you'd tell them to examine the beliefs, lives, and demeanors of Sarah Palin and Barney Frank.
“Palin has made few public appearances since her unsuccessful campaign for vice president last year, recently declining an invitation to address the Iowa Family Policy Center, a social conservative group in a state critical to the presidential nominating process.”
Be sure to include this in all your articles on Palin. (sarcasm alert)
“...recently declining an invitation to address the Iowa Family Policy Center, a social conservative group in a state critical to the presidential nominating process.”
I thought she couldn’t make it because of the book tour, but promised to come back and speak for free.
20 seconds. Missed it by ‘that’ much. :)
(I know, I know...terrible imagery. But couldn't help myself. Hehehe.)
I would much rather see her speak at events for conservative groups. She could speak at fund raisers like Sean Hannity’s to provide scholarships for children fallen servicemen and law enforcement officers. She could help raise money for pregnancy clinics. There are many conservative groups providing great services who would welcome her as a speaker. She doesn't need to appear before the MSM with Barney Frank.
Like Daniel being thrown into the Lyin' Den.
They failed to mention that Barack Obama became the first President since Grover Cleaveland to turn down the club to attend during their first Dinner as President.
I wonder if they will snub him this year, or will he attend with Palin speaking?
No worries. Barney’s frank has no interest in Sarah.
I have to disagree with the advice frequently given to Sarah on FR that she should avoid practically all contact with the MSM and other hostile audiences.
If she can’t handle hostile media, how can she handle hostile governments with more dangerous weapons at their disposal than biting sarcasm and withering ridicule?
Sarah didn’t get to be governor of Alaska without defeating nasty characters within and without the Alaska GOP, and I’m sure she can skewer the Gridiron Club attendees who expect her to be the punchline.
“Why does she want to speak to a bunch of politically correct, inside the beltway Media people?”
Because it’s a chance for her to stand at the podium and rip them to shreds. Even better, roasting the press in a Gridiron Club speech is both a time-honored tradition and a way for her to cloak her Obamunist-media-seeking missles as “good-natured humor.”
That’s why.
Gig ‘em, Sarah!

Pretty sure the Gridiron Dinner is white tie, not black tie. One of the last white tie events in the country. Not that Politico is actually known for factual accuracy.
She needs to find the best barb-laced joke writer in the country for this. The material she has to work with is endless. Go to it, Sarah!
will she blast old barney or let him off.....I guess it wouldn’t be polite to skewar another guess....I hope she goes last, because if the fag attacks her, she can hit back
No worries. Barneys frank has no interest in Sarah
Yeah, but Todd better watch his back (literally)
There’s nothing The Dude has that’s worth Barney’s life.
LOL!! In a twisted way, that almost sounds like an insult to Todd.
Sarah will be intelligent, charming, witty...and deftly slid in some well-placed remarks that Bwaney won’t be able to refute. I think BF has loads more to worry about than Sarah.
Go, Sarah!
As with Coulter I thought pictures were MANDATORY! when posting Palin.
Nope...he’s just not worth Barney getting his old broke butt kicked.

But, I thought it was Mitt, Huck and TPaw who were the saviors of the republican party, why aren’t they getting all the invitations to speak, going on huge book signing tours, and why aren’t their books #1? I just don’t get it, why is someone whose political career has been over for months be getting all the attention?
Could it be that the media are lying to us?

Both Sarah and bawney will be escorted to the dinner by their husbands.
she did. the other thing is that an appearance in Iowa instantly becomes seen as the first move in a campaign and everyone will start talking about that instead of the book.
You don’t really go to give a big speech in Iowa unless you’re running for President. Especially this early on.
I would think during this period she probably wants to focus on the book, instead of having the entire media treat an Iowa speech as the 1st event of the 2012 campaign, which they surely would.
You’ll notice the book tour has no stops in NH or SC either. No appearances scheduled there.
