Interesting article about the shootings and the dangers of infiltrators. Article points out police stations are high risk for these attacks.
Very true. Obviously, these are big, strong men who don't simply attack foes unable to fight back... oh, wait... nevermind... Police stations are probably pretty safe.
11,000 Mulsims on the Armed Forces. Let’s say half are jihadists. If each has a goal of killing at least 12 soldiers, that’s 66000 soldiers, or 22 times the number of people killed on 9-11.
I’m guessing a police station attack would be carried out by a suicide bomber.
Yesterday afternoon, we kept hearing about a second shooter at another location, and that he was “on the loose”. AP was reporting there were “dual shootings”, that the second location was a theater.
Today...nothing. Not a word about a second shooter or location. What’s going on here???
Good question. Expect NO ANSWERS!
Where TF is FOX?
I still don’t see how one man with two handguns can fire more than 50 rounds at a group of trained people without somebody beating the crap out of him while he reloads.

Sorry, I may have misunderstood your comment. What are you saying or is my brain mush?

Cathy, you misunderstand me. I am also from a deep legacy law enforcement family.
My point, apparently poorly-enough stated to upset you, is that the jihadists are cowards. They will only attack those unable to defend themselves. That is why the article’s author is wrong about police stations being on the list of next possible targets... the police are very capable of defending themselves and too much for the enemy.
They can’t face our military head-on when they are on their guard so the jihadists take advantage of our hospitality and civility to kill us in our sleep.
I hope I have explained it better. God bless you.
Muslims in the military should be considered a security risk.
Military folks would have the training not to “freeze” like most of us civies would do when faced with an active shooter.
Reloading a semi-automatic pistol is so quick that if you look away for a second you might not even realize that he just reloaded. This video will show you how quick it can be.
http://hsoiblog.wordpress.com/2009/10/25/on-reloads/
With a little practice you can reload a semi auto in less that two seconds. How far can you run from a dead stop in two seconds?
When your in combat you might have a chance, reloading pistols only takes three to five seconds if you have proper training, but when your there in line small talking about whatever and all of a sudden shots from no where it isn’t that easy.
Honestly I don’t know if we will ever get the entire truth here. There will be too much white washing and every attempt to paint this as a lone lunatic rather than something more. It was more.
Exactly. Suicide bombing and car bombings directed at police vehicles are more common overseas. These will happen here. Give it time.
You are wrong. The author is right. If you read you article you would have seen that it talked about car bombs and suicide bombings at police stations. Doesn’t matter how strong and well armed you then. And the article gives examples from overseas. Read, read, read!
It will be schools and malls next...
...followed shortly by Islamic learning centers.
May seem like a stupid analogy, but it's really not. You could even substitute green Martians, if you like.
I gave up on the idea of a moderate Muslim a long time ago. In fact, I think I was the last holdout. At least among the non-politicians. The politicians feel that they have to maintain that facade. (As does poor Dr. Phil. I thought he would burst with unhappiness and fear last night, when he was on Larry King, arguing with all his might that Islam is good.) It's true, Dr. Phil doesn't want a fatwa against him. Nobody does. That's why there's all the bowing and scraping, and kowtowing -- as if that will stop our enemy from cutting (or blowing) off our heads given half a chance.
Not a problem.
2 Glocks with 33 round mags. No reloads needed.
And a trained shooter can reload a he11 of a lot faster than 10 seconds.
I wonder what would happen were the army to just say that this Major was dead, and that he acted alone? He might find himself and his accomplices somewhere “private”, where they could discuss “life and things” with some army professionals, out of the public eye.
If asked, they could say that his body was cremated.
The Major and his buddies might find themselves part of an X-Files episode.
You did not read the article, did you? The author talked about suicide bombers who attack police stations and car bombers who target police vehicles. Doesn’t matter how well armed you are when a covert bomber is intent on killing. Police stations are excellent targets and you should expect attempts here. These types of attacks are more common in Chechnya, Sri Lanka, Russia, Algeria, and Iraq. Terrorists bring their techniques here. Count on it.
I wish they would tell us what kind of gun he was using. That could clear a lot up.
How does one guy, using two hand guns, shoot over 40 people in less than three minutes?
Whatever you do, though, don't jump to conclusions about motive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fixed it.
I subscribe to the Lazamataz method of article reading...
I understand the history and methods of terrorism. My comment was about the cowardice of our enemies, not the inherent danger to any segment of society. Our enemies lurk in the shadows and strike the soft underbelly rather than locking horns in a direct confrontation.
My apologies, my knee jerk reaction from a quick read unfortunately.
I agree with your analysis, but sadly we had a station attacked in our County by a gunman that resulted in 2 officers being killed, so I am a bit sensitive to these discussions.
Thanks for the clarification and your comments.
I wasn’t talking “possible” (as in could-but-unlikely), I was talking “probable”.
Most likely/average case would be two Glock 19s with four 15 round magazines. That’s 60 rounds with only two reloads at 2 seconds each. 50 rounds fired, 41 hits. Averaging 1 shot every 2.4 seconds, he’s done in 2 minutes flat. Takes very little training & preparation to do.
It’s not bull. Yes, the equipment and skill required is very ordinary. Yes, at least once a year someone snaps and does something like this (what news source have you been reading for the last 30 years?) on a similar scale with similar results. And yes, every time this kind of event happens I have to explain to people like you that it’s really not that hard to believe.
Just to hammer the point home:
Today - TODAY! just the day after Ft. Hood - someone walked into a building and shot at least 17 people. Details at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2380103/posts
Details emerging.
Assuming 1 gun he probably reloaded at least once. The Ft. Hood shooter did the same thing, just with twice the equipment in twice the time. Nothing extraordinary about either case aside from the simple sheer evil of it - and even then it happened twice in two days.
Yes, some “ordinary” people do snap and do this kind of thing.
Yes, it doesn’t take much equipment or skill to do it.
Breaking news is that he used a 5.7-caliber pistol. Most likely it is a FN FiveseveN, using either two 30-round or three 20-round magazines - only one, may be two, reloads needed. A second pistol was present but not fired.
As for anyone tackling him during a reload: you gonna bet your life on tackling a shooter who may very well finish his reload before you get to him?
bump
Another factoid: the FN FiveseveN, which the perp used*, comes with three 20-round magazines. Two reloads.
(* - and owned, practiced with, and was adept up to 100 yards with (showing much practice and skill).)
Apparently it was an FN Herstal 5.7mm pistol.

Why was Hasan still in the Army?
*********************************EXCERPT********************************
U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin, was briefed by military officials and said Hasan had taken some unusual classes for someone studying about mental health.
He took a lot of extra classes in weapons training, which seems a little odd for a psychiatrist, McCaul said.
Thanks.
11,000 Mulsims on the Armed Forces. Lets say half are jihadists.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Half hell, if only one tenth of one percent are jihadists that is eleven madmen who may turn on their fellow soldiers at any time. That is far too many! How strange is it that during world war two we locked up American citizens who happened to be of Japanese descent but now that we are at war with Islam (even though it is denied) we have thousands of Muslims in our armed forces. We are clutching vipers to our breasts.
There was an article (IIRC this AM) about some military officer from Ft Hood on the golf course and something like 40 MPs showed up and arrested a guy in BDUs, connected with the killings. No mention of appearance of arrestee.
I’d like to know more about this arrest.
I can’t even remember if it happened yesterday or today.
Duh.
Cindy - you know what I’m talking about?
This guy had this planned down to a tee.

“Surviving Fort Hood shooting suspect arrested at golf course, officer says”
November 5, 2009 6:34 p.m. EST
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
(CNN) —
SNIPPET: “The senior officer said he ducked into a nearby house for cover as 30 to 40 cars carrying MPs approached.
He said he saw a soldier in battle-dress uniform, his hands in the air. The MPs ordered him to lie on the ground and open his uniform, presumably to ensure he was not carrying explosives, the senior officer said.
He said an MP told him that authorities considered the man to be a suspect in the shootings after having overheard the man say he was with the shooter.”
You are quick! So it was yesterday.
I wonder about the rest of this story.
I feel as though I’m in some horrible alternate universe.
