Washington -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gladly pocketed one more precious Democratic vote for health care legislation Thursday, swearing in Bay Area Rep. John Garamendi as key Republican gubernatorial victories this week in Virginia and New Jersey rattled moderate Democrats before a showdown vote set for Saturday.
Two California Democrats, moderates Dennis Cardoza and Jim Costa from the San Joaquin Valley, remain uncommitted.
"We are right on the brink," Pelosi said. "We have a historic opportunity for us to again provide quality health care for all Americans. It is something that many of us have worked our whole political lifetimes on."
Pelosi issued a notice to members to be ready to convene at 9 a.m. Saturday to pass a 10-year, $1.05 trillion health care overhaul. President Obama is expected to visit the House today to rally support for his signature domestic policy, as memories of the historic collapse of former President Bill Clinton's health care effort in 1994 and the subsequent GOP takeover of Congress loomed large.
When asked if she had the 218-vote House majority needed to pass the bill, Pelosi responded, "We will."

Nancy Pelosi is deeply disturbed.
She is giving the people what they want! It was determined on Nov. 4, 2008. She is a year late! The American people endorse this because they don’t know what it entails.
I bet she is. Can you imagine her challenge today?
She needs to make a few bribes, like free special treatment centers in critical Blue Dogs districts. Every congressman has a price.
Nancy Pelosi would have been an asset to the Gestapo. She definitely was born too late and missed her calling to help like-minded allies.

2010
I’m wondering if some of these house democrats aren’t saying that they won’t vote for this unless and until the Senate passes something. Why should they stick their neck out on the line if the Senate does not pass anything.
The stance of these two better be "you'll never get my vote until the water's turned back on...permanently."
Anything less than that, they're cutting their constituents' throats.
That’s understandable, probably from the battery corrosion after all these years.
2010 gets us nothing. Even if we can repeal the bill in 2011, Obama is sitting there with his veto pen. It will be too late.
It is dangerous for this monstrosity to even pass one chamber.

yep.
The second that there's 218 suckers in the House who will commit to voting for this thing, Pelousy will make sure it goes to the floor.
Classic case of the dog that didn't bark. Bill is not up for a vote, ergo, there's not the support for it.
There...fixed it!
..it's the start

..a great sign
