Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the suspect in the Fort Hood shootings, has not been killed and is in stable condition at a hospital, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said at a press conference at Fort Hood.
He is in custody at an undisclosed hospital, Cone said.
Col. Ben Danner said that the gunman was shot four times. He said he didn’t know where the man was hit, nor whether all four shots were fired by the same officer.
Cone had earlier said that Hasan was killed in the incident.
Three soldiers taken into custody after the shootings were released, he said. Investigators believe Hasan acted alone.
“Evidence does not suggest this was a terrorist event,” Cone said.
The death toll from the attack remains 12 after another victim died, Cone said.
Jeff Sadosky, a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, said the senator had been told that Hasan was upset about his upcoming deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.
An AP source said Hasan had received a poor performance evaluation for Army hospital work. Hasan had been a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to Fort Hood in July, the Associated Press said, citing military officials in Washington.
The suspect, McCaul said, “took a lot of advanced training in shooting.”
McCaul said he also has been told that Hasan had undergone alcohol counseling.
Hasan, 39, is a U.S. citizen whose parents are Palestinians from the West Bank, according to the Washington Post.
Its always Israel and George Bush’s fault.
The spin is that Obama will blame George Bush for driving this guy to go crazy! Hasan is a George Bush victim

Most likely they wanted to see what kind of comminications flurished when they announced he was dead.
The way it sounds I think the General was told he was dead. He did say the shooter had a CID guy with him — they won’t say which hospital he is at so most likely they took him away and somehow the General got the word he was dead along with the cop. The general looked so uncomfortable and he did say there was a lot going on which caused erroneous information.
What I find odd is after two people who everyone thought were dead are alive the death count still stands at 12.
Someone had told the media his parents was Jordanian but it comes out now they were Palestinian from the West Bank.
Fog of War is right especially when they reported 12 dead including the shooter and the cop and after we find they were alive, we still have 12 dead.
A general on with Greta said he received a really poor review lately...not something you want in the military.
It is curious. One more thing that makes no sense — getting promoted after getting a poor OER or whatever the Army calls them.
The most charitable interpretation of that remark is, We don't think it's part of a larger conspiracy.
Certainly, on the face of it, it's a textbook example of Sudden Jihad Syndrome.
If it is alive let the soldiers that survived the attack spend a little unsupervised quality time with it.
Then let the slain one’s widows, widowers, and adult children finish it off.
Mirandize it first of course.
Another nonsensical thing is .. 30 people wounded, 12 people dead, all from a guy who only had 2 handguns?

A Mohammedan kills a bunch of soldiers on a military base and a three-star general says it isn’t a terrorist event.
Well, sir, what exactly was it? Some cross-cultural USO event gone slightly astray? Get real.
Very strange. I would add - the misidentification of him as being dead (!), and also, he is now reported to be in a ‘stable’ condition although he was shot multiple times. Normally, a person with those injuries would be on the critical list.
