US Senate Candidate Pat Hughes says Mark Kirk's appeal to Sarah Palin a "Desperate Move"

Hughes Says Kirk Appeal to Palin a “Desperate Move”

(HINSDALE, IL) – A new Wilson Research analysis of polling data from the U.S. Senate campaigns of Mark Kirk and Patrick Hughes, respectively, indicates bad news for the Kirk campaign. This comes on the heels of news from Kirk’s Senate campaign that he is seeking the endorsement of former Gov. Sarah Palin.

"I believe Mark Kirk, who has consistently supported President Obama's legislative agenda, including cap and trade legislation, is quickly realizing that Republican Primary voters do not share his extreme views. In a desperate attempt to prove otherwise, he is seeking the endorsement of Sarah Palin, a true Reagan conservative, to help disguise his liberal voting record, "remarked Hughes.

In its comparative analysis of polling data from both U.S. Senate campaigns, Wilson Research found Patrick Hughes’ live-person polling data to be statistically more accurate than the “robopolling” conducted by Mark Kirk’s campaign. Here is a summary of the findings from Wilson Research:

Wilson Research indicated that the Market Research Insight Survey Market Research Insight sampled n=500 likely GOP primary voters in a poll sponsored by businessman Patrick Hughes in a standard live-person telephone survey in September 2009. The respondents for this survey were chosen from a population of registered voters in Illinois who have a recent history of voting in Republican primaries.

The ideological background of the primary electorate appears to favor a candidate such as Patrick Hughes. Seven in ten respondents (69%) described themselves as ideologically conservative, compared to only a quarter (25%) of respondents describing themselves as ideologically moderate. The findings of the images and ballot of the Market Research Insight survey demonstrate that the race is competitive. In the survey, Congressman Kirk has a favorable to unfavorable ratio of 2.7:1. Patrick Hughes’ favorable rating is much higher, at 9:1, but has far less name ID than the Congressman (64% for Kirk versus 24% for Hughes). According to information released by the Kirk campaign, Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies, conversely, found that Congressman Kirk will easily win the GOP nomination. Wilson Research also indicated that Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies conducted a poll of n=848 likely GOP primary voters in a poll sponsored by Congressman Mark Kirk through IVR polling. However, VR polling—often referred to as “robopolling”—has been demonstrated to be unreliable in assessing an electorate.

We have 16 Candidates that have filed for US Senate, 8 Republicans, 7 Democrats, and 1 Green party. Libertarians, Constitution, Independents file later since they are not recognized ballot parties, you need 5% or greater vote in the last Governor General election or 25,000 valid signitures which really means 50 to 60 thousand signitures in this state.

Illinois review takes comments at the bottom of the story.

In June, Kirk infamously joined 7 other super-RINOs in voting YES on Cap and Trade, yet now he wants the endorsement of Sarah Palin??!! Arrogance, self-importance and breathtaking contempt for the intellect of voters on display as usual in RINO land.

In a desperate attempt to prove otherwise, he is seeking the endorsement of Sarah Palin, ....................... He needs her, she don’t need him. IMHO it would be better to get some young retired Military officer (Male or Female)to run to take his place, the more we get in the quicker Congress will be cleaned up.

She also doesn't endorse lefties, like Gingrich does...

Do they allow Republicans in Illinois?

I thought that was against union rules...

I’d agree some military experience would be preferable, I don’t hold that a retiree (and I am one) would be better than somebody who did four years and left. Some experience in the private sector would be good as well.

My nephews retired after 6 years, or 10 if you include 4 yrs at USMA. I envision a Capt or Major type, one who’s “been there” (Iraq- Afghanistan).

I live in Rep. Kirk’s district, so I know that, before the cap & trade vote, he was liberal. He’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-illegal alien, pro-spending increases, and anti-Iraq surge.

A fruitless move is more like it, but isn’t it interesting that he realizes Sarah’s appeal.

Not much of a Kirk fan, but since he’s a LtCdr with service in Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, Desert Storm and Shield and the current Iraq conflict, I’d suggest that military service isn’t a productive line of criticism. His opposition to the surge, that’s a legitimate indication of poor military judgement.

Eh, I’ve looked into his service. He pulled a Dick Lugar and joined when it looked like it might help with a political career. As a matter of fact, I’ve tried to find out when his training took place and I am beginning to suspect the sonofabitch was direct commissioned. Somehow he doesn’t strike me as OCS material. As for the ‘tours’ of duty, even that falls flat. He does a few weeks here, a few weeks there and calls them tours.

Impressive, LT. Cdr, he must have been a black shoe sailor, a tail hooker. It doesn’t sound like he inhaled too much smoke, sand or dust.

I live in Rep. Kirk’s district, and I agree that he shouldn’t call his brief trips “tours.” I was in the navy for 21 years, and I was near Baghdad, in the Triangle of Death, in a marine infantry battalion, Sept. 2004-Mar. ‘05. That was a tour, and Kirk shouldn’t imply that he’s served, in combat, as much as he does.

I still want to know what commissioning program he went through to get where he is. My guess is it was awfully meager whatever it was; I wonder if he pulled the same stunt Gary Hart pulled with the direct commissioning?

Kirk is a Congressman, and he's not even a "moderate."
This clown is a complete, butt-screwing socialist like Dede was.
Unfortunately liberal voters are going to cross over and elect Kirk in the primary, where he will easily lose in the general.

It is a bad thing if it fools any Republican voters into thinking Kirk is actually with us on anything major.

I don’t know about that.

The rats have contested primaries for Senator and Governor themselves and elections in Cook county are decided in the rat primary. Most rat voters mindlessly pick up the rat ballot. I don’t think they are clever enough to realize Kirk is one of them.

At least 1 liberal will probably be voting for Kirk though. A poll worker in my precinct who is a democrat but serves as a Republican and therefore must vote in the GOP primary. Last primary she voted for McCain and his delegates and left the rest of the ballot blank.

Not. Mark. Kirk.

Not. Pat. Hughes.

This state has YET to field an acceptable candidate on the Republican side of the ballot, and I say that as a Fiscal and Social Conservative. Buncha no good RINO's in this god forsaken state .....

I gathered both those items on a more detailed read of the article. My first post was hasty. I thought it was a liberal making fun of a conservative for clutching at Sarah’s skirts.

Republicans have 8 candidates, 2 have been challenged. Eric Wallace didn’t file. Andy Martin runs every 2 years and is a leftist on some issues. Don Lowery and Kathy Thomas I’ve heard is good on issues but has no organization or money for the run. 1 guy from Jerseyville filed but got challenged.

That leaves Pat Hughes, Robert Zadek who is also being challenged and 1 other guy that escapes me.

Your other option is to help the Constitution Party or the Libertarian Party, or an Independent get on the ballot with petitions starting in March.
