DUDLEY, Mass., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts town outlawed owning three cats without a kennel license after a man complained his neighbor's felines were hurting his lawn.

Voters at a Dudley town meeting Tuesday night approved the addition of the new language to a town bylaw, which will impose a $100 per day fine for violations, after a local man complained that some of the 15 cats owned by Mary Ellen Richards had destroyed his grass, the Worcester (Mass.) Telegram & Gazette reported Wednesday.

Richards said at the town meeting that she now plans to put her house up for sale and move to a "more cat-friendly community,"

Every cat who has kittens will require the owners to get a kennel license.

which will impose a $100 per day fine for violations

Why not just confiscate the animals if there is "abuse" in having more than 3 without a license?

Follow the money, more revenue tickets.

My town requires a license for one cat, now if we don’t send vacination updates and keep renewing the license they fine us. If the cat dies we have to prove that. Government is wonderful.

And what if the cat runs away, do you still have to pay for a license every year?

In the city of St. Peters, MO you have the following regulations:

Maximum of three pets (over the age of 6 months) allowed per household.

All animals must be kept on a leash at all times when off the owner’s property, or be restrained on the owner’s property.

All animals must be provided with wholesome food, clean water, shelter and health care as necessary to maintain good health.

Rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs, cats and domestic others by the age of 6 months, and vaccinations must be kept current every year.

All animals (dogs, cats and domestic others) must wear a St. Charles County license tag at all times.

Pet owners walking their pet must carry with them a container to immediately remove any fecal matter deposited by the animal.

The three pet limit has been a law for some time. The actual law reads “Pet Unit” this allows for multiple smaller animals.

after a man complained his neighbor's felines were hurting his lawn.

I can't even tell you how many times in my life I wanted to roll some peoples lawns up in a tight roll and shove it up the owners @. Stupid hypocrits with no life. Never heard them complain about bird poop....and they put so many poisons on their lawn it will kill an elephant and poison water systems...but that's ok. These people need a life...what a pitiful small world they live in.

Typical Massachusetts....

I know many other states where they allow you to bag at least 5 cats during open season.

This does raise a good question in property rights law. Large numbers of animals can create problems for neighbors, from stink, feces, noise and damage. Importantly, even feeding wild animals can be a major nuisance, be they bears, raccoons or pigeons.

And unless the town or city intervenes, a second problem is created when neighbors start culling such animals that have strayed onto their property.

Somehow I doubt he'd have complained unless she let her cats run wild. Being a nuisance to your neighbors by letting your cats invade and damage their property is not cool.

It's always "cat season" when the cat's in my yard.

Compassionate people love cats. A cat so loves it own life that it is easy to love them and want to protect them. Cats provide affection, beauty and serenity to one's life.

Government get your laws out of our private lives and properties unless we are murdering or doing obvious and purposeful physical harm to another. Government stop treating us like your children, you are not our mommy!

If she was abusing her animals there already is a law against that. More laws, the more money they extract from us. More loss of our personal freedoms.
