The Madness of Queen Nancy
Wall Street Journal ^ | November 5, 2009 | John Fund

It's one thing to be serene under fire, it's another to be delusional.

More than a few Democrats in Congress are perplexed and worried that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is insisting on ramming through a 1,900-page health care bill on Saturday, just days after her party took heavy losses in Tuesday's elections. "It reminds me of Major Nicholson, the obsessed British major in the film 'Bridge on the River Kwai,'" one Democrat told me. "She is fixated on finishing her health care bridge even as she's lost sight of where it's going and what damage it could cause to her own troops."

I do not think Pelosi is mad at all. I think she sees this as the only opportunity to ram through Obamacare and Cap, Tax and Trade. She is almost 70 years old so what is the big deal if she is no longer Speaker in 2011. She shrewdly realized if these pass it will be impossible to reverse them because you will have groups that benefit from them and will fight like tooth and nail to keep them. Also, I think she sees passing these 2 will insure her immortality in the history books not just a trivia entry for being the 1st Women Speaker.I have to give her credit for taking the ling view while for some reason the so-called Blue Dogs are scratching their heads wondering why she is so eager to push them off the cliff.

Unfortunately, she presents as an unbalanced person.

Without BOTOX, an enormous hair and makeup budget, a sizeable fortune, and an army of metrosexual staffers, our Speaker of the House might as well just be another old lady sitting on a park bench smiling and mumbling to herself

I think your analysis is on. What remains to be seen is how many House Democrats from districts George W. Bush took are willing to commit political suicide for her. I suspect there won’t be many.

I see why her approval ratings are so low. She and her family have millions of dollars. This will not impact her. She only has power if people follow her lead.

Yep, probably the last opportunity to force socialism for decades. They will loose the House and Senate followed by the Presidency and all those living today will remember the mistake of giving the Democrats power.

At least Major Nicholson had a positive objective, the moral of his men. The same can not be said for that witch.

She and her ilk are mad. Power mad. Marxist mad. And they are being led right off the edge of a cliff that the DemoRats will never be able to climb back up. Maybe, in a perverse way, this is a BLESSING in disguise.

She draws a line in the dirt and she refuses to adjust as though it is a personal affront to her to do so. Why she was elected to the Speaker position this session was just baffling.

I hope Nancy’s daughter is doing a documentary about her madness to archive for history.

So here’s the deal...

1. Amendments can, and will, be offered, and some voted into the resolution.

2. The 72-hour clock, where it is posted on the ‘net, does NOT start all over. So, unless you’re a CSPAN junkie on Saturday, you’re not gonna know about it.

3. Your Rep won’t be working the phones on Saturday. This means that you can’t call up and register your indignation before the vote.

I contacted Stupak’s office, and yes, there will probably be an amendment somewhere between the pro-life and pro-choice forces. I know, there is no “sorta dead”, but the change will be to language that kinda obscures and obfuscates.

No, you can’t see the amendment before it is proposed. No, you won’t have time to call up your Rep before or after it is introduced, or even before the bill is voted on.

At her “we won” presser from yesterday, she really came off as loony. Huge, fake smile, head moving back and forth, eyes darting around...

Good Grief - get a grip! That's exactly what she is right now. Absolutely no relationship with reality on any level.

A great big BARF for Stupak. He is being held up as the dimocrat voice of opposition by news media like FOX and our conservative talk show hosts. His interview on FOX two days ago he said he would “try” to introduce an amendment to restrict abortion funding but if it failed he WOULD NOT vote against the final bill! A typical politician!

That earns him a great big BARF from me!

Let's assume for a moment that Nancy Pelosi is actually crazy like a fox.... (not that I believe it, but maybe somebody over there is...)

What might be the political benefit of forcing this bill out to the floor?

The best case for the Dems would be that the bill is out there, but there's no actual vote on it.

This would give Pelosi and friends the advantage of saying "we're trying to do something, and we're trying to be bipartisan, but the Republicans are blocking and obstructing this much-needed reform." The exact details of the bill can (and would) remain vague and undiscussed -- meaning that there's no way to concretely argue against it. The D's can spin it as they've been up to now: Republicans hating sick people, etc.

None of their claims are true, of course ... but it will be reported that way, and enough people will believe it to cause damage to the GOP.

Probably the worst thing that could happen to the Dems, is probably that Pelosi's bill actually passes the House. In that case, the Republicans can campaign on specific unpleasant elements of the bill, and there will undoubtedly be plenty for them to use. A steady drum-beat of "this, and this, and this, and cost, and cost, and deficits," etc. will tie in nicely with the on-going high unemployment and probably other bad economic news....

And in that case, a party-line vote on the bill will draw a clear distinction between R's and D's.

So... The Dems' best strategy would be to keep rolling the date back on this thing.... (and Harry Reid has already said this is what will happen.)

I totally agree with your analysis. These marxist fanatics have been waiting for this chance for years, and if these items do pass and become law, as long as they have 41 votes in the Senate, these monstrosities will never be recinded or modified.

She’s a true believer safe in her district if this passes. I think the madness theory comes from the fact she is Speaker and supposed to take the political concerns of her caucus into account. That’s the practical view.

I think she was elected speaker to do just the opposite. The Liberals have a majority in their caucus and Nancy was seen as their safety valve to prevent their goals was being sabotaged by the “blue dogs”. Their Tom Delay only more partisan.

I’m just not convinced the “blue dogs” will go along with it. Not eeryone who is a Democrat is a true believer. They may be liberal but if between dying on that hill vs keeping their comfy offices? Clinton chose himself in the end over his beliefs. I think most Democrat’s are inclined the same.

Perfect description! On a side note,Years ago in London I met one of the British soldiers who was imprisoned with him. The Brits had made a film called “Return to the River Kwai” about their escape and he was at the premiere.

Very interesting that Pelosi is scheduling the healthcare vote for Saturday, Nov 7th ... which is the anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Good point.

I recall my aging mother observing that when you reach age 60 you realize you’re running out of time to achieve your personal life goals - it’s now or never.
