Majority leader: House will pass health bill

By ERICA WERNER and RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON – The second-ranking House Democrat predicted that historic health care legislation will be passed Saturday as the AARP, the nation's premier lobbying group for the elderly, announced it was signing on to the bill.

Rep. Steny Hoyer said House leaders expect to have the 218 votes needed to pass the sweeping bill, which would extend coverage to tens of millions of uninsured people and ban insurance companies from turning people away. President Barack Obama has the health care overhaul the defining social goal of his young administration. Hoyer acknowledged that the vote could be tight, and he said his prediction of passage is predicated on the expectation that a couple remaining obstacles can be surmounted.

This just proves they saw what happened on Tuesday night and can care less. They don’t care about losing their jobs. They know if this passes, its the end of the United States of America as we know it. They can all lose their jobs and they can care less

Wasn’t it suppose to pass today? Now its Saturday? Wasn’t it suppose to pass in August, then September, we are in November folks, doesn’t Congress have some real work that is supposed to get done? What is this crazy woman talking about - did she not see the election returns?

Is this Kamikaze move another variation of Jones Town suicide? Or is there a calculation behind this decision?

No votes in house or Senate. No elected Official in a Red State or a slightly leaning district will vote for it.

There are not enough pro-death Republicans to make up for the pro-life Dems who will vote to kill this if the Hyde language is not adopted. And I don't think there are enough GOP dopes to cover for whatever Blue Dog Dems want to return to office come next November, those who not only saw what happened Tuesday, but they have the example of former Blue Dog Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, what happened to her back in 1994 when she voted against the express wishes of her constituents in 1993.

If you’ve got the votes, pass it TODAY, Steny. Congressmen like to sleep in on Saturdays just as much as the rest of us.

Can anybody refresh my memory, who did Pelosi want instead of Hoyer?

I read on Politico a few days ago, nuts and bolts, Pelosi is 20-40 votes short. This Saturday stunt is to miss the news cycle when it goes down. She waited until the election and any possible bump from that. It is a tactical decision to just take the medicine now and come back with a new bill after the new year and get what they REALLY wanted. Is there any doubt now AARP is a organ of the Democrat party, part of the 5th column.

None, they can only lose I think 40 dem votes and those would be blue dogs. They don’t need a single GoP if they keep their side in line.

Steny Hoyer wants Pelosi’s job so bad he can smell it. I wonder if he will want this deal to fail so he can get it and get a new bill.

Harry Reid is slowing down.

Unemployment claims down this week, WS all excited bugt the unemployment went up to 9.9 Percent.

Interesing,,insurance co stocks are up big today so far, health insurance companies. That is a good sign.

Folks, let’s talk seriously: What do we do if this thing passes? If it passes, the Congress will have sent us a message that they don’t fear the American voter, they don’t care about the American citizen, they have no regard for the Constitution and they will simply do as they please.

How must we respond? If it passes, then apparently, all our phone calls and protests and tea parties were of no avail.

I’m not admitting defeat on this, I’m just asking what should be our course of action, should this debacle become reality.

Look for 2010 to be a political bloodbath. The Dems and RINOS have not learned from both VA and NJ.

“Hoyer acknowledged that the vote could be tight, and he said his prediction of passage is predicated on the expectation that a couple remaining obstacles can be surmounted.”

How will these obstacles be surmounted? Will there be bribery in the form of earmarks? Will the RNC threaten to withold campaign support? Are there secret FBI files? Could there be a hypmotist involved? Tony Soprano?

However they plan to surmount the obstacles, it can’t have anything to do with the merits of the bill.
