WASHINGTON – Ignoring a Republican boycott, Senate Democrats pushed a precedent-setting climate bill through a key committee Thursday.
Rep. Barbara Boxer, chairman of the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, had delayed the crucial vote for days because of a Republican protest over whether the cost of the legislation had been fully examined. But the California Democrat moved quickly to pass the bill, which for the first time would set mandatory limits on heat-trapping gases, without any of the seven GOP senators on the panel present. The measure cleared the panel on a 11-1 vote.
Boxer said the Republican demand for more analysis was "duplicative and waste of taxpayer dollars."
"Advancing the bill is a necessary step on the road to garnering the 60 votes we need," said Boxer, who introduced the bill along with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. in late September. "We are pleased that despite the Republican boycott, we have had the will to move this bill forward."
Of the 11 Democrats present at the vote, only one — Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont. — voted against the legislation, saying that concerns he had with the bill were not fully addressed. The "yes" vote of Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., was added after the vote.

Even if it WERE true, this bill wouldn't make a noticeable difference, at a cost of TRILLIONS as well as a much lower standard of living for us (between taxes and less technology innovation going forward).

My questions to these fools is always “What are we saving the world for?”. Who would want to live in there utopian world? Seems that any technological advance is a no no, but outhouses are banned also. Their only solution seems to be “Get rid of Humans and Cows, and all will be well with the world.”

Lindsay is such a tool!. Doesn't he realize that the Dems will use his support to get the bill passed, then with EPA regulations, Enviro-whacko lawsuits, and leftist courts the oil, clean coal and nuclear provisions of the bill will be killed, and we will be left with cap and tax!

We've had a cool summer, and it looks like we're going to have an especially cold winter, in which case "global warming" will be the butt of jokes among the American populace by spring.
I think Democrats are going to try a scorched earth strategy: ram the climate bills and the Obama/Pelosicare bills through at the same time. If their strategy fails (G** willing), they will be dead meat in 2010.
We are not goign to be able to kill this bill- this bill WILL go through because the dems are NOT open to reason, and they WILL go right ahead with this uinconscionable scam which will cripple the little people the world over- it’s a done deal- there is nothign that is goign to stop this short of revolution- the time for reasonable discussion has passed long ago- the dems and various scam artists pushing htis crap bill have closed their ears to facts, and nothign anyone says wil lchange the course of this bill- they know damn well that the facts do NOT support their claims- but htey do NOT care- not one bit!

Senator Inhofe seemed quite confident not long ago that this bill wouldn’t pass, and that was before the research I linked became public.
I don’t think this is a “done deal” at all, because although the Dem senators aren’t necessarily too bright, they’re very sensitive to political reality - in other words, will they be reelected?
I’m quite sure, especially given the NJ gubernatorial victory, that many Senate Dems are very nervous about now...

I’ve been following inhoffe and morano for a long time now, and comparing hteir evidence against what the dems have been saying, and it’s very clear that their ears have been closed to the truth- there’s simply too much money to scam from people for the dems to listen to the facts- I’ve written inhoffe and morano several times askign why the dems are goign ahead with htis, and why, since there is so much evidence that prove man isn’t responsible, that hte public isn’t being more informed about this, and why the GOP seems to be comp[romising when hte facts are clear that we’re NOT to blame, and have never received any replies.
I hope you’re right, but I think the draw of bilking literally trillions of dollars from the little people is just too great a goal for the money hungry dems- I think they will risk their political careers in order to jump on htis bandwagon because it will mean millions, perhaps billions for them
The GOP boycott was predicated on the Democrats following committee rules. They didn't and nothing will happen to them because they didn't.
I wish I could. I don't live in his state unfortunately. I do know someone who is though and will be encouraging him to vote Graham out.
You just cannot make this stuff up folks. If cap and trade and the health bill pass, you can kiss the American economy good-bye.
