49% Blame Bush for Economy, 45% Blame Obama (The Shine is beginning to wear off...)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 11/3/09 | Rasmusssen

Voters for the first time are blaming President Obama nearly as much as President Bush for the country’s continuing economic problems.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49% still blame the economic situation on the recession that began under Bush. But 45% now say the nation’s economic problems are caused more by Obama’s policies.

KEYWORDS: bias; economy; mccainordie; obama
Did a search for this, didn't see it.

As time goes on, I suspect the "Blame Bush" meme will wear even more thin on the voters.

The poll options are too limited imo.

What if the options included congress as well as an all-of-the-above choice?

The Soviets were still blaming the Czarists for their economic problems well into the 1970’s, so don't expect the American Socialists to be any different.

I suspect that's true, but I hear from so many Bush-haters that seem to have "Bush's Fault" hard-coded into their DNA. It seems to solve every problem in their world view.

W made the stupid mistake of allowing them to snow him with the trillion dollar TARP bailout 3 months before the election.

the economy was fine for 7.5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of W’s admin- he should have let the banks fail and laid the blame where it belonged - the democraps - for forcing them to make bad loans.

We had TRUTH on our side- but as usual the wimps in Republican office played the game to lose.

Gee, do you think the other 2 years could have been influenced by the fact that the Democrats took control of Congress in 2006?! [You must have also missed President Bush’s 8 year battle with the Democrats/DC lobbyists over Freddie/Fannie, social security and, oh yea, that pesky little HOT WAR that we were waging!]

Pretty friggen sad that only 6% see the problem elsewhere. Greenspan, Frank, Dodd, etc all deserved to be violated in a Taliban prison.

The blame-bush drum beat has been so pervasive that the people who are generally apathetic about current events are simply unable to get that synthesized liberal mantra rhythm out of their heads.

It's more than ironic that the program set in motion by Carter (lib-progressive) and exponentially expanded by Clinton (lib-chameleon) that incontrovertibly set in motion the bubble that brought down the house, essentially walk free of blame here and now.

It's like a reckless driver that causes a chain reaction multi-car crash who drives off into the sunset unscathed and anonymous, while people lie dying and shattered on the roadway.

But Carter and Clinton not withstanding, it's got to be crystallizing in the minds of the folks that nothing O has done has improved the economics of the nation. All it has done is solidify the interjection of the federal politik into more and more aspects of life.

Why doesn't Rahm E.’s statement “you can't let a good crisis go to waste” resonate more potently in the minds of more folks?

The WH is ruining the economy whilst simultaneously spreading the myth that things are getting better. It's such a blatant non-reality that it galls and frustrates the h@!! out of me that more people can't see it.

Gee, do you think the other 2 years could have been influenced by the fact that the Democrats took control of Congress in 2006?!....

Democrats took advantage of the 'big tent' anything goes under the 'big tent' called the GOP, and foleyized those most despised bunch of people called 'values voters'. Some how some people are brought up that some are just more equal than the rest. 'You know', he who has the money gets the position and cracks the proverbial whip. Oh and also don't forget that it was 'compassion' to invite law breakers into this nation, pay them on the cheap and require the rest of US to fund their health care and their education. Wonder how many mortgages were provided to law breakers that we now get to pay offfff.

How is it that liberals and moderates always command the benefit of doubt and are loved most when they compromise?

Oh I am NOT bashing President Bush, but I do not respect his interpretation of the word 'compassion'.

"As time goes on, I suspect the "Blame Bush" meme will wear even more thin on the voters."

Counted among the worst offenders are Obama and his whole administration. I got news for the punk in chief. Leaders lead and crybabies whine...

Obama must be going thru a $#!+ load of cheese with that whine party he's hosted since January 19th.

Hmmmmmmmmm . . . I wonder how President Reagan defined ‘compassion’ when he campaigned for and signed an actual amnesty bill?!

[BTW: I think some ‘conservatives’ did everyone a disservice by purposely mischaracterizing President Bush’s approach to this issue — it’s not just those on the left or in the ‘middle’ who behave according to various ‘hidden’ agendas.]

No, he had 5~6 years of false prosperity where he feverishly inflated the bubble that burst.

good to see they are still polling this. this gives the dems a gauge for how long they have left to crater the economy, thereby being able to reboot as a socialist state, and still be able to blame it on GWBush and the GOP

Without doing a whole lot of research I’m ok with saying that Bush is at least partly responsible for the economic downturn. The key difference is, were Bush still president (and given a willing Congress) I believe we would’ve seen a different response, e.g. tax cuts instead of tax hikes.
