Dear Mr. President: Stop Being Such a Celebrity (Obama the Megan Fox of the White House)
Esquire ^ | November 5, 2009 | S.T. VanAirsdale

Posted on 11/05/2009 4:50:11 AM PST by rightwingintelligentsia

Despite its best intentions as it flocked to the polls a year ago today, America did not exactly elect Barack Obama to serve as its forty-fourth President of the United States. It didn't call upon him to lead, necessarily, nor simply to represent the country's interests at home and abroad. Obama's victory over John McCain was not that of a man whose sheer sense of principal outweighed his opponent's politics or the Establishment's status quo, nor whose trademark invocations of hope and affirmation had influenced voters to truly, sincerely believe that "Yes we can."

No, the American electorate did not cohere in support a civic firebrand. Rather, it purposely, deliberately coronated its first-ever Superstar-in-Chief. Forget Ronald Reagan, who was more than a generation removed from Bedtime For Bonzo when he snake-charmed his Silent Majority three decades ago. In 2008, pop culture finally sought — and won — the presidency.

Three hundred and sixty-five days later, we appear to have gotten pretty much all we could have hoped for out of such a victory — and, I think, enough motivation not to let it happen again. Plenty has happened, both practically and philosophically, but this much we know, culturally: A complacent left swats away an unsettled right, and the icons who'd once found a convenient star vehicle in the Obama campaign are today regarded as little more than a liability to the embattled president, if they can be found at all.

But 0bamy has that Sally Fields at the Academy Awards...”I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!” attitude, each and every day.

(like Sally Fields, no like 0bamy)

Senior Editor at Movieline.com? What's that??

He's probably just another lib who's disappointed that Dear Leader hasn't moved fast enough to destroy our country.

He doesn't neglect to take potshots at some conservative heroes ... Ronald Reagan ... snake-charmed? Sarah Palin ... literary homicide?

Exactly: disillusioned with The One.
And there are scores of them out there, having gotten
‘wised up’ by the reality WE always knew was there.
I am sick and tired of these people coming out and fishing
for more approval at how smart they are now.
If you were over the age of 18 one year ago, you should’ve already known the pitfalls of succumbing to “peer pressure”
(just as likely from your PARENTS), and indulging in the
mock-idealism that always attends lefty demagogue figures like Obama. Some of us KNEW who he was within days of his appearance on the national stage as a candidate. It really pisses me off that we NOW have to listen to evidence of the maturation of those who didn’t. And it has to be presented to us in a slow and apparently endless trickle of names and faces of those unfortunate souls who are ‘disillusioned’.
NEWS FLASH: The damage has already been done, you A -holes!

I don't know if S.T. VanAirsdale is old enough to have voted in the Regan years. I suspect not. Obama is the One with the pixie-dust. Regan meant what he said and said what he meant. Very much unlike Obama.

I think a lot of lefties are realizing they got sold a sociopath and they’re both disappointed and a little nervous.

The author certainly is a lefty and no doubt wants all the lefty goals, but he does a very good analysis of why so many politically apathetic people voted for Obama - or the image created for him - and the effect of celebrity culture in getting him elected.

And more than thirty sociopathic Communist Czars to go with him which were NOT elected.

Another thing that pizzes me off about them is the way they act as if they alone just made this discovery, enabling them to completely ignore all the many people who knew what Barry was while they were out there hyping for him. But then we oppose him for different reasons, so I suppose they have to ignore us. Though their egos are the main reason. Heaven forbid that conservatives be correct about the “celebrity-in-chief”.

The media always eats it’s own....except JFK.

Esquire is a typical men’s magazine.....run by fags and womyn...and it shows.

in the old days Esquire and Argosy and mags like that were fun and manly..today they are for fops.
