Black Men in The Age of Obama - Is Obama inspiring black men to step up?
CNN Of Course ^ | 11/4/09 | By John Blake, CNN

Is Obama inspiring black men to step up? Michael Johnson, says President Obama inspired him to mentor to Kedrick Howt, his "little brother." Since election, more black men are volunteering, activists say Big brother: Obama is making me "step up my game" Black fraternities partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters to make more mentors Big Brothers leader: We still don't have enough black men (CNN) -- The Natural Edges Salon in Dallas, Texas, is a rowdy barbershop where black men gather to loudly talk smack, politics and sports. But on one wintry November morning last year, the men suddenly stopped talking. Someone turned the radio off, and the barbers' clippers stopping humming. A man had just challenged the customers' manhood. The man was President-elect Obama. . . . . . said David Miller, co-founder of the Urban Leadership Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, a group that works with other civic groups to mentor black and Latino boys. "I have seen a renewed sense of hope and optimism that's unprecedented," Miller said. "

Although they didn't reach their goal, a record number of black men -- 650,000 -- participated this year in an annual Million Father March. The nationwide march was organized by the Black Star Project, a nonprofit group based in Chicago, Illinois. A foundation headed by billionaire George Soros, an Obama supporter, is investing $15 million in a three-year campaign to help black men. Soros' Open Society Institute designed the Campaign for Black Male Achievement to improve the lives of black men and boys by offering grants to groups across the country.

. .Long said, "Obama can't do it by himself." He decided to "step up my game" even more after Obama was elected. "In order to be a man, our boys have to see men," Long said."

Must read the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen!

"Obama and Soros" Our Heroes!

Besides the fact that the party that destroyed black families by rendering the black man meaningless, when the government promised to be sugardaddy, this article is ridiculous blatant PR. There might as well be an ADVERTISEMENT banner on top.

Why don't they ever even mentioned that over 60% of blacks are physically assaulted by racial attacks in Russia - Soros' philosophical motherland. Obama doesn't even dare comment on that.

In our Orwellian Nation Obama is still the biggest supporter Black Genocide in America. Not an issue to the mainstream media.

Is it me or are there more programs for blacks for mentors and groups and help ups than for others? (or do they have more advertising/exposure?)

Might be a reason why 0bamy has so many ‘Czars’ to help him out with his elected ditherings.

It’s one thing to step up, quite another to step on someone else’s back to get there. There are many honorable black men that reveal the dark soul of Obama. Obama is not who I would look to as an example, he is a man of privilege and with no depth of character.
Teleprompter hero! So it would be like guitar hero, cept u hafta read the screen at least twice a week to a nation that no longer wants to hear your voice or see your face. MICB

Perhaps he’s inspiring them to “step up” to political activism. Now if he could get them to “step up” to a regard for family, community, education and work ethic, that would be something. Of course, such a thing would be highly racist, as it would tend to deny them their cultural heritage as black men.

Try marrying your baby mamma before making babies and then staying married. That won’t cost us taxpayers hardly anything.

WoW! What a racist article CNN has produced in this one. Where are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and will they boycott CNN due to this racist article. In essence CNN is saying black men have been lazy in the past and done nothing to help their own race and i would say CNN needs to be boycotted by every black American. It is most certainly a racial slur to accuse the black male population of not pulling their own weight in society. If he is still alive i hope Walter Williams gets hold of this article and blasts CCN for their blatant racist comments and opinions. It is a shame and even that sleeve bag Kattie Coric should be screaming racist for the outrageous statements made by CNN. Or is it really true that that black men have been lazy?

Are you being ironic?

Black men, in large numbers, have not stepped up to plate and supported either their own fmailies let alone the entire race.

Black middle and upper class men run from the problems of the blacks poor class for the most part. They gather in their own nice places and don’t go back. Some do but my guess is the majority dont.

And there is a permanent underclass of black men who father children and move on, who do not act like good citizens at home or out in society. And that is a truth not a rascist statement.

What is sick is that CNN is atrtributing a “change” to Obama. Maybe that will be true in the future but I haven’t seen any change yet.

CNN is being racist in making these statements. I am sure if a guy like Bush or Cheney had said this there would have been complete revolt!

Three things have devastated black men and women.

LBJ and his great society. The mores of the culture being destroyed.

ANd the moving of good union jobs and blue collar jobs away,,these were the gateway for success for black men in urban areas and they are gone.

ANd finally the Churches which were the source of moral backbone, inspiration, goodness and stability. THere has been a systematic attempted destruction of Christian churches.

Give any black poor man a job with good wages, a product being produced, a union to protect him, the right to work and be paid like any other and a thriving industrial economnny, give him a black wife who cares for him and his kids and a good Christian church and he will succed, his kids will go to college, he will be part of something quite wonderful.

But welfare, lack of a family, no church, nothing to do to get started and he will be unable to make a life. Any man needs those things to be a good citizen, father, man.

It is just that black men and black culture were dismantled by democrats and well meaning but stupid people.

I don't think they are lazy at all, that's an unfounded sterotype. First off if you are a Chrisitian and take that worldview there is no such thing as "race" that is term coined by atheist academia, like classifying finches or roaches. We are the same in Christ. There are cultural differences based on commonality of outward appearances and ancestral background but no biological differences or some gene which makes you smarter or more moral. Problem is African-Americans themselves don't believe it, that somehow they "ARE" different and Jeremiah Wright..think they are "BETTER"..see Hitler 1930's. The problem with the black community is a combination of liberal entitlement programs sabotaging the family structure, the G*dless entertainment media which glorifies violence and misogyny and an educational system that continues to fail the kids.

"And there is a permanent underclass of black men who father children and move on, who do not act like good citizens at home or out in society."

And blacks are so quick to blame anyone who points this fact out of racism, no matter the validity and truth of the claims being levied against them...

The ignorance is staggering...

What? Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louie Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright not so inspiring?

OT. Yep. Many years ago I worked with an electricians local in Longview, Washington. They proudly called themselves the “FLEs” - “fat lazy electrician.” You couldn’t get them off the end of a construction job. I guess it was also a reference to trying to get the fleas off a dog.

mentor black and Latino boys.

So race does matter? The Orwellian dance we do in this country is leading us to Balkanized destruction with whites being the fair haired step child. To whites and the mainstream race is supposed to be just a "social construct". No considerations of race are allowed. Otherwise race is real and a factor used in life, laws, politics and just about everything else. How this is supposed to work is beyond me but it is the destructive path we apparently have selected. Whites are aracial drones and all other races are proud and celebrate their "heritage" while also drinking plenty of anti-white kool-aid

A nation wishing to self destruct and set itself on a genocidal/suicidal path should be taking notes.

How bout mentoring white boys? Or should we just s**t all over them telling them they are borg while all other races are really something to celebrate?

Obama is blowing the horn of victimhood for Black men. Instead of empowering them to start businesses and be prosperous, he is blaming all their problems on Whitey.

Nixon’s strong anti-communist history made him the only one who could go to China. Obama as a black President would be the only one who can encourage Blacks to get their acts together and discard the self destructive parts of their culture. Instead he reinforces them. He has squandered that opportunity for political gain.

Good post. Except the union protection part. We all have to make our way in the workplace..sometimes fair, sometimes not. Motivation to do well, get the education, either college, trade school or the military and then lots of hard work. Success is not always guaranteed, either. I’ve long worked in a manufacturing environment that has slowly dwindled. It is sad to see so much of what we did well be offshored or become obsolete. But that is the current reality. Unless we can bring forth the ideas that industries with lots of jobs can be built again, we must be flexible and adapt to make our own way. That goes for black, white, hispanic and polka-dot.

Has anyone noticed more weddings at the black churches and fewer birth announcements for fatherless black babies?

Me neither.

I think you can attribute Obama’s accomplishments here to the same kind of imagination that decides how many jobs he has saved.

"free money"

If it's free PRIVATE!!! money, I have no problem with that. Not that it will do much good for its intended purpose. Money, private or federal, has never solved the problems of the inner city. The thing is it's time for all the east and left coast milllionaires and billionaires to put their money where their mouths are. If they're that interested in "social change", what better way to change things than by giving the denizens of the afflicted cities the majority of the ill-gotten gains they've scammed off that rotten, capitalist system. I'm sure Michael Moore will be first in line to donate the majority of his wealth to these people. (smirk)

I have no problem with private money being “donated” either.

I have a problem with CNN acting as the propaganda agent for a Crotchety Crook and his Looney Lachey.
