Palin sowed confusion on Election Night, new book claims
CNN Political Ticker ^ | November 3, 2009 | Peter Hamby

Posted on 11/04/2009 6:21:00 PM PST by CedarDave

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Tensions within John McCain's presidential campaign boiled over on Election Night last November when Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, repeatedly ignored directions from senior staffers who told her she would not be delivering her own concession speech.

Those fresh details on the conflict between Palin and members of the McCain team come in a new book - "Sarah from Alaska" - by Scott Conroy and Shushannah Walshe, two members of the press corps that traveled with Palin during the 2008 presidential race. The pair spent much of the following year reporting on the campaign turmoil and the vice presidential nominee's difficult return to Alaska after the election.

According to a copy of the book obtained by CNN, Palin's speechwriter Matthew Scully had prepared a brief speech for the then-Alaska governor to deliver while introducing McCain, before he gave his concession speech at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix. But after conferring in his suite with senior advisers Mark Salter, Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt, McCain nixed the idea of having Palin speak before him.

This is CNN's take on the book by the above authors. That the piece is a hit job in itself is bad enough. But the comments are some of the most hateful I have read and dripping with so much venom that they would kill a rattlesnake.

Compare with the review in this thread by the "Times Online:"

The Speech That Palin Was Banned From Delivering

Those a-holes dripping with venom are pissed because they saw their messiah last night go down in flames in both Virginia and New Jersey. That must have made them want to jump off a bridge..too bad they didn’t

A dispute over whether a VP pick gives a concession speech or not wouldn’t make for a compelling 800-word op ed piece. Is there anything else to “recommend” this hack-job “book?”

And who pays the cover price for such dreck?

So to speak. :)

Let’s face it. Sarah did a great job in spite of being continually sabotaged by McCain’s handlers. Without her, he would have done much worse.

Also, Sarah was very good about doing what McCain asked, since she recognized that he was (unfortunately) the boss.

I would imagine that McCain’s campaign was, as usual, in a state of confusion and turmoil, and they handed Sarah conflicting instructions about what she should do.

Tnis is news? Do they expect anyone to buy this nonsense? Does anyone care, except for the professional politicians desperate to keep Sarah at arm’s length lest she should come back and depose them all?

I am glad that she didn’t back down. She saw what kind of people McCain associated himself with. They all wanted her to be their puppet, she refused. Good for her. I lost all respect I had for McCain during the election. Sarah was the only one who wanted to FIGHT to win..McCain just rolled over and wanted a tummy rub from Obama

No, they are always that way at CNN. CNN has pretty much become the Palin Derangement Syndrome Support Group meet up place. Any story that has even a remote connection to Sarah Palin is filled with really vile, nasty comments within a matter of minutes. I also notice that very very few positive comments are allowed. Since CNN moderates the site, it is essentially their desire to fill it up with as much hatred as possible.

I think that there are probably only about 10 or 20 of them all using multiple screen names. Given their apparent close working relationship with CNN, and the speed at which the comments appear, sometimes pages of comments posted within 30 minutes, it wouldn’t surprise me if they aren’t all CNN employees.

The way I read that story about the concession speech is that Sarah is a strong woman who doesn't like being told what to do by authority figures. That's exactly how a female President would need to be. We don't want someone who could be intimidated by thugs and dictators around the world. If McCain had won, Sarah would have been one heart attack away from being Commander in Chief, and we don't want a wimpy chick as CIC.

I have no doubt that if instead Sarah had agreed right away not to speak, these same authors would have suggested that she lacked the required personal strength of a Margaret Thatcher. This book is just a hit piece intended to be read by far left-wing democrats.

I wouldn’t be surprised either. CNN is the Communist News Network. I have family in Israel who have all boycotted CNN since 2006 when Israel went to war with Hezbollah and CNN accused Israel of killing innocent women and children. CNN has always been a terrorist loving network. I wouldn’t be surprised if most if not all of those nasty comments are coming from employees with nothing else better to do. The hate for this woman from the left is astonishing to me. Sarah has never hurt anyone yet they are constantly smearing her and wanting to destroy her.
Look at Entertainment Tonight, that show “used” to actually be entertaining. They would talk about celebrities and move premieres and stuff, you know what their #1 topic is everyday for the past 4 days..Levi Johnston..yeah, he has become their special little correspondent. They bring him on to ruin her life, like Sarah gives a flying F about Levi, but still..this is who the left are. Downright disgusting can’t even describe it

I think Sarah has learned alot since then, mainly that the press is out to get her. I think she is a smart lady and she will know how to handle the press next time. This time, IMO, she was too trusting. She assumed everyone was as nice as her. Now she knows better.

“The McCain people really treated her like crap.”

The McCain people are idiots and are incompetent. Does anyone remember the interview that Obama gave to the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle?

It was back in January of 2008. Obama indicated it be ok to bankrupt the coal industry. Had this been properly discovered; it might have turned the election.

Did the McCain people discover this publically avaiable information?
No.
Not until November 2, 2008.
That was incompetence.

I can well imagine that having been so successful and independent really disposed Sarah to not want to simply do as told. She was more successful at campaigning than McCain, more successful at governing than any of the candidates ever were, and they were just telling her to shut up because the old war hero finally got all he really cared about - his time in the sun.

UGH!

I truly believe McCain picked her so the media and dems (McCain’s friends for life) could get a head start in destroying her. I despise that man. And I’ll always believe had he not picked her he wouldn’t have garnered more than 30% of the vote. I know he wouldn’t have gotten mine, my wife’s, my sister’s, etc.

IMHO, Palin brought out the Independents,(There are Independent Conservatives) but she came in too late. Independents were disgusted with both party picks, and Mc Cain was no ball of fire as a candidate. He picked up the fire when he put Palin on the ticket. BUT! Independents saw Mc Cain vs. Obama and figured it was a losing choice either way. Hence, the turn out by the Independents was not as great.

Those that saved the election from being a landslide for Obama were really voting for Palin. I wasn’t impressed with either Mc Cain or Obama, but I got my ass off the couch when Palin came into the picture. She is one tough cookie, and she is hated because she raises the bar. I hope I can live long enough to see her in DC kicking butt.

After she was selected to be the VP candidate, I did more than give a few dollars (though I did that more than I ever had before) or put a bumper sticker on my P/U truck. I traveled 40 miles RT to our county seat and became an official deputy voter registrar. Then I went around both my office and neighborhood signing up voters (I skipped those houses with Obama bumper stickers on there cars!). Of course, there were a few Democrats but I had to turn those forms in too (they got a receipt with my name and registrar number on it). Never occurred to me to sign up my pet, my dead parents and national sports figures like ACORN did!

That’s a good point made by physicist. It doesn’t matter what she does or says, the Left is gonna attack Sarah Palin for “it.”

This is exactly HOW Obamsky stuck himself with Afghanistan — remember, he and the Dhimmicrats kept harping on how much Bush was ignoring it in favor of Iraq, all of that being an empty political argument that they now have to act upon as if they believe it.

In the matter of the death panels and the Soros-backed imposter Republican in NY-23, Sarah Palin has already proven herself well beyond merely worthy. She’s the Real Deal and they can publish all the garbage they wanna publish but it won’t matter becaue they can’t stop her and whenever they try they just put more supporters in her column.

Sarah Palin—man, they are SACRED OUTTA THEIR MINDS OF HER!

And they should be.

My thinking too. What the hell did it matter after they lost?? Were they afraid that she was going to trash the campaign? She's got too much class for that.

BTW, what losing VP candidate has ever received as much attention, hate, vitriol as she has. Even McCain, on the top of the ticket, never received this type of continuing scrutiny and derision.

“she’s an AIRHEAD”....................... I’m sure the party that said that had to be a real intellectual, and I guess she is still waiting for her free gas and mortgage money. “Women like her, are mean-spirited, frumpy, trivial women with big gaping pathetic holes in their lives. They hate her because she reminds them of the major deficiencies in their own lives and they’re worried that if compared to her by others, they won’t measure up. Just looking at her makes them feel insignificant. Palin makes them feel threatened and insecure, so of course, she must be brought down like a rabid pit bull”. (Not my words but I kept them handy for reference.)
