Joe Wilson Proposes Forcing Congress Onto Government Health Insurance Plan
Though Republicans oppose the so-called "public option," Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., is proposing the requirement to draw attention to the plan's alleged flaws.
Republican Rep. Joe Wilson proposed an amendment Wednesday that would force all members of Congress to receive health insurance coverage through the government-run plan proposed in the House's reform bill.
Though Republicans oppose the so-called "public option," the South Carolina gadfly -- who gained notoriety for shouting "you lie" at President Obama during his address to Congress two months ago -- is proposing the requirement to draw attention to what he sees as the plan's flaws.
"They know the government-run option will not be in the interest of the American people, either individually or for the American citizens at large," Wilson said Wednesday, arguing that's the reason Congress does not require its members to sign up.
The current House health care legislation states that members of Congress "may enroll" in the public plan. Wilson wants that changed to "must enroll."
"If the public option is good enough for the American people, then it's certainly good enough for Congress," Wilson said. "If this government-run plan is so good, why don't members of Congress take the plan?"

Congressmen have better health care than most private plans paid entirely by the taxpayers. I’d say they’re already on the public plan.

ABSOLUTELY!! If a healthcare bill is passed, all Senators and Congressmen, and government employees should be required to be enrolled in the plan.

There’s a lot of people I’d like to see out of Congress, but killing them off early with government health care is too extreme.
No it isn't. It's what I call justice. They want to force us all (we, whose hard-earned tax money pays their rather extravagant salaries) to be on government-run healthcare. You don't call 'that' extreme???

All Americans including government employees need to be on the same program.

I find it quite amusing that two little words which formed from thoughts in Joe Wilson’s head and were blurted out loud before he could stop them, have turned a “never heard of” House member into someone who’s “found his voice.”
Anyone else see the humor in that?
He knows his amendment won’t carry water, but that’s beside the point. If the Health Care bill is so wonderful, then Congress should sign up. If it’s NOT that wonderful, then don’t force it on the voters.
I for one am glad Joe Wilson is taking the risk to speak up and speak out . . . because even his amendment is saying to the Democrats “you lie.”
If this monstrosity passes, force the Congress to be under its yoke!

The slimes in DC must face their own Death Panels before the taxpayers pay one dime for their medical care. 98% of the slimes in office in DC are worthless.
I'd say follow the money. Did Carville do any "consulting" over there as he has done in other countries? Where is the media outrage that "someone" leaked that Karzai's brother was a CIA operative?
