Even as a Senate global-warming bill remained in limbo with Democrats refusing to delay a committee vote until an economic analysis was completed, hopes rose for a potential bipartisan compromise.
The Senate, meanwhile, appears to be moving away from the bill, authored by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., which would require a 20 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2020 and would have the government sell the right to emit carbon dioxide.
Even as Boxer conducted an unusual one-sided hearing on her bill in the Environment and Public Works Committee, Kerry, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. and Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., held a news conference to announce they are working on a compromise that might attract GOP votes and has earned a tentative endorsement from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Boxer supports this separate effort and made note of it during the hearing. She said the chamber's endorsement was "a game changer."
Kerry, Lieberman and Graham released few details about the new bill, but said it would include a cap and trade proposal. They said it would also address increasing nuclear energy, more drilling and clean coal technology, all initiatives that are high on the wish list of Republicans willing to work on a climate change compromise.

BARF.
Nasty!
I’m sick of these turncoat mole politicians with an R beside their name voting for the liberal bills giving the Dems their precious “bipartisan”.
RINOS have got to go!!
We just elected this republican to the michigan state senate last night. Fortunately its only for a year.

Then let us see the details. Anything that amounts to a tax on energy consumption should NEVER be considered. Even if they allow for domestic production of energy, consumption taxes would easily piss away any benefit, and then some.
I will do all that I can to help defeat Graham in his next election.
thanks rabscuttle385.
Lindsey Graham warns GOP against going too far right

Are you suggesting we mount a Holy Crusade and wipe the devils from the face of the Earth? (Talk to Civ...) :-)
Lindsey Graham has to go.
S.C.Tea Party Members and independent voters send a strong message to RINO Graham. NO CO2 CAP AND TAX.
So SC has new automotive plants and is getting a new Boeing plant. Graham has decided to go with the oracle and tax the hell out of them. Wake up SC!

I’m in Colorado and I’ll contribute to Graham’s conservative opponent....if there is one.
Lindsey Graham warns GOP against going too far right””
What a joke.
Get out Lesley
and take your two creepy friends standing next to you with you.
The stupid party once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. They allow liberals to dictate the agenda and then try to compromise with it.
The whole damned premise of this garbage should be rejected.
The hell with compromising.
I agree with the above out of state people who would help defeat this traitor - which election cycle is he in?
Yesterday I saw the 3-minute video about Barbara Boxer’s committee meeting. What the article doesn’t tell you is that she spoke alone before the camera; all the other seats were empty.
Graham was re-elected in 2008, so the piece of crap isn’t up for re-election until 2014.
Uber RINO Lindsey PingSheesh. I guess he’ll start to pretend to be a conservative as that date approaches.
Next time, a primary to allow registered Republicans to vote in only. That would kick out Gramnesty, probably would have last time as well.
Does it require an act of the SC Legislature to make primaries party members only?
Is there some way to get GrahamnestyCapandTaxingidiot out from under our “Big Tent”? Taking over as the most liberal useless idiot of the GOP!
These people have a political death wish. The taxpayers have had enough, and these idiots are saying "spend more."
Who's voting for these people, anyway? I hope in 2010, we have strong conservatives running somewhere. If they're running Independent, then Independent gets my vote.
Vote for a liberal Democrat - you get liberalism.
Vote for a liberal Republican - you still get liberalism.
I'm not a liberal. I'm not voting for either.
The right-minded voters of S.C. need to expose Graham as the RINO that he is and scozzafava his butt right out of the Senate next chance they get.
I believe primaries are controlled by political parties, not any legislatures.
How about zero carbon taxes? That would be a good compromise.
It’s obvious, Graham is running for President. He believes that the way to get the nomination is to be the Democrats’ favorite Republican. See John McCain for an example.
The US Chamber of Commerce didn’t endorse cap and tax. It was a phony leftist claiming to be from the Chamber of Commerce and the press ate it up. CNN even interviewed the fake representative of the CofC. The Chamber of Commerce is for small businesses and is against cap and tax.
As for Lindsey Graham, where is this boy’s head jumping on board with Boxer and Kerry? Those two dopes have no clue between them. He has been on the wrong side of too many things lately. Cap and tax is dangerous and should be opposed by all including Graham.
Graham has been following McCain around like a puppy dog for years. He thinks the route to political fortune is to be the Democrats’ favorite Republican, like McCain was. He has no idea what’s happening in the country or his own party, and probably doesn’t want to hear it.
McCain lost because the economy went in the tank. It’s that simple. The smartest thing McCain did in his whole campaign was pick that “uneducated extremist” from Alaska.
This ain’t about saving the earth. This is about creating a new source of income. Who do these people think they are?
G-d? They must believe they are if they think they can control the earth’s climate changes. Nooo Cleetus, this ain’t about fixin the climate. Even Jethro knows politicians are incapable of changing the earth’s climate.
This is about finding new ways to tax Americans. Especially Americans who find ways to stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
Aside from the fact that the GW issue is snake oil, how in h*ll do they expect this economy to ever recover if they lay on a bunch more taxes and regs?
Or is permanently killing the economy their real intention?
The communists would sell you the right to emit CO2?, THE RIGHT TO BREATHE???
And require the ‘’tooth fairy’’ to upgrade her costume, or impose a large tax on the populace if she doesn’t act quick enough.
