Barone on the Hidden Numbers (Big trouble for Obama & the Dems)
Weekly Standard ^ | 11/4/09 | Michael Barone

Posted on 11/04/2009 1:33:03 PM PST by truthandlife

Unsurprisingly, Michael Barone has an interesting and incisive roundup of numbers from last night that go deeper than the top-line results. Some nuggets:

* Bergen County, New Jersey, a 56%-42% Corzine constituency in 2005, came within a point or two of voting for Christie.

* Westchester County, New York, voted 58%-42% for a Republican county executive after voting almost exactly the opposite way, in a race involving the same two candidates, four years before.

* The Virginia Board of Elections has results by CD showing that three Dems who captured seats in 2008 by very narrow margins (the 2nd, 5th, and 11th districts) saw their districts go to McDonnell by whopping margins (24 points, 22 points, and 10 points, respectively).

Barone believes this last fact will not be lost on those freshman Democrats.

If you’re a Democrat, and you’re up for re-election in 10, and you vote for Obamacare, you had better be from a very liberal district, or you’ll need a new job.

Michael Barone is one of the smartest poll watchers/readers in the business. Not to be left out is the Republicans’ success in taking over the Nassau County (New York) Legislature for the first time in 8 years, and the fact that the once popular Democratic Nassau County Executive, Tom Suozzi, currently leads his Repub opponent by a whisker and is headed to a recount. Ha, ha, take that Rahm, Ax, Plouffe, Bambi, Plugz, etc...

Just about the only race we lost can be blamed on Boehner, Steele, Newt, and the idiots who run the Republican Party.

We are set for a huge conservative win in the next couple of elections.

IF these losers who are running the party don’t screw it up AGAIN.

That man is a walking encyclopedia.

Once when I had was getting a book signed by him he regaled everyone in line by asked us where we were from, state and county. With some embarrassment I told him Atlantic County, and he looked up at me smiled and said,"You folks have a lot of work to do.:

BTW Atlantic County went Republican for the first time in years.

The next big moment in taking the country back is when the primaries come around. It will be very important for conservatives to get active, to convince conservative candidates to run, even against incumbents, and to get out the vote for them. If we can remove a few RINOs, those that remain will get the message, and the conservatives that win will have a better chance in the general election.

Buh bye commies, lets not do lunch.

We should publicly proclaim an offer from the GOP, to join their votes with the Blue Dogs and replace Pelosi as Speaker of the House with a true Centrist Democrat.

This would remove Pelosi; demonstrate *true* bipartisanship, eliminating the mantle of "sage and reasonable" from the RINOs; and remove a far-left icon from a position of far too much power.

You know, like propose this during the rally at the rally with Michele Bachmann tomorrow...

Barone is the guru of US elections and demographics. It's a shame that Fox News didn't have him appear last night until about 5 minutes before the end of their live "election 2009" special news show last night (approx. 11:54 pm EST).

Barone should have been on FNC right at the beginning of the night, and they should have eliminated Shep Smith... IMHO.

When I first met Michael Barone at CPAC in 1998 he saw my last name and recognized it as the same name as the mayor of my city a few decades ago. I told him the former mayor was a distant relative. I was so impressed at the depth of his knowledge.

I sure hope he is right about the trends being good for ‘09 and ‘10.

HERE'S HOW DESPERATE THE OVOMITONS WERE TO WIN NJ Obama went to New Jersey three times---Biden was there twice.

The NY Times reported :

(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was being screened by Obama's WH team.

(b) Corzine's aides gave the WH daily briefings.

(c) Obama’s pollsters took over for Corzine’s polling team, and,

(d) White House operatives were on the ground for everything from internal strategy sessions to secret, obscure pep rallies with Latinoes, (still toweling off after swimming the Rio Grande).

Corzine had a "Peruvian PAC" endorsing him. Latino invaders from Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Spain are currently "registered" to vote in NJ (or being trucked in election day) under several names.......all voting for Corzine under several identities. Ohaha’s Chicago buddies are experts in mfg the votes needed to win. Stashing piles of votes that “suddenly appear” in used pizza boxes.......... and scribbling “Vota Corzine” on Taco Bell wrappers.

Ohaha hid $17.5 BILLION stimulus in NJ---it disappeared and could not be found ----b/c the stimulus was intended for Corzine's reelection kitty.

NOTE The WH still has not spent 85% of the stim----buzz is Ohaha is saving it for Dem candidates 2010 elections.

THE FACTS ARE THESE: Ohaha was totally invested in the 2009 Va and NJ races. Losing New Jersey was the tipping point---this was an election the WH could not afford to lose. The Corzine loss was a debacle for Ohaha.

Pulling out all the stops for Corzine made Ohaha a VERY good target for Americans disgusted with Ohaha’s policies. At the same time Dem Corzine’s corrupt governorship was also a huge negative.

Harken to the White House's frantic spinning...”the elections weren’t about us...except the one we won, that one's all about us, that one proves that the whole country loves us, and wants socialized medicine.”

(Snicker) Now we know why Harry Reid came out yesterday to lessen expectations that the healthcare mess would be voted on........the WH knew they were headed into a Republican storm.

The tsunami is ahead..........in 2010. Ohaha can say goodbye to trillion dollar healthcare "reform".......nothing more than a slush fund to redistribute the wealth to enrich his hand-picked Marxists.

According to White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, the President was busy with other matters last night and wasn't really concerned with election results.

Gibbs fatuous statement---that Ohaha was busy with other matters Tues night and wasn't "really concerned" with election results------underlines that the Ovomitons are on mood-altering substances. No matter what catastrophe befalls them, Ohaha and the mob are grinning, glad-handing, quipping, smirking.....acting like nothing happened.

The WH is sucking up valium and vodka in order to anesthetize themselves from the pain in the aftermath of the2 009 Republican rout.....trying to convince themselves the election was not a referendum on Obama.

One big thing that I think the pundits are missing right now is the apparent clean sweep that Republicans also made at the state and local levels all across the country.

Even generally Communist Rockville, Maryland in the People's Republic of Montgomery County, elected a fiscally conservative, smaller government candidate as mayor over the uber-liberal democratic trash that usually gets elected there. That's BIG news there!

Yeah, Rick Boucher's in big trouble back home in the 9th District (Southwestern Virginia). He was one of the key members on the House Energy Committee pushing cap & trade. He tried to argue that it was better for the coal industry if Congress imposed cap & trade instead of the EPA, but that did not fly.

After it finally sunk in throughout coal country that Obama meant what he said and that cap & trade would destroy the coal industry (which was on the rebound), tempers exploded, and Boucher's town hall meetings in August were just as angry and contentious (if not more so) as those of the other Rat critters across the country. Boucher tried to back pedal and stayed in Washington when Obama came to Bristol, which was intended by the White House to be both a reward (for Boucher's early support during the 2008 campaign) and a threat to keep him on board for healthcare "reform" and climate change legislation.

Lately, Boucher's been taking an unearthly pounding from the local newspapers, and the GOP is trying to find a strong enough candidate to unseat him. Although, SWVA is mostly Conservative, and local democrats voted overwhelmingly for Hillary rather than Obama during the 2008 Rat primary, the GOP there is corrupt and very disorganized, with a lot of infighting. That's how Boucher has survived over the years, along with the millions in pork that he delivers every year to the region. Right now, the GOP is trying to recruit Terry Kilgore to run against him in 2010. If everyone recalls, Terry's twin brother Jerry ran for governor in 2005 and lost to DNC hack Tim Kaine. A couple of other local contenders have expressed interested in running against Boucher, but I'm not sure they have the horse power to beat him. It's going to be tough.

Whether "it's lost" on them or not is irrelevant: they will be steamrolled, bribed, cajoled, promised, and if all else fails, thrown to the wolves to get this health care bill through. Obama is probably already promising them admin jobs if they get voted out.

There is a great tendency among some, including Barone, to think that the democratic process works because most of these people are interested in retaining their seats. But if Obama's doomsday machine gets in place, they will only be out of power for a year or two before they can come in again and NEVER be out.

Well, that may be happening. There have been a couple of intense rallies by coal miners and their families over the past couple of weeks about the EPA's decision to not renew or allow any more mountaintop/surface mining permits, which will pretty much shut down all the remaining mines in the area.

Boucher's definitely feeling the heat, as are Rockefeller and Rahall over in West Virginia.

Hm.... While the results are encouraging, I'm still reticent to call this an unambiguous message to the Democrats for next year.

The sheer magnitude of the percentage turnarounds suggests to me that the gubernatorial elections in VA and NJ were, at least in part, referenda on the Democrat candidates themselves. Corzine, at least, had enough baggage to fill a train.

I'm not nearly as familiar with Deeds, so I can't say whether this applies to him as well -- my impression is that he had baggage of his own.

Best case for Obama is that even his involvement was insufficient to overcome the weakness of those two guys. You can bet that's what the eventual WH spin will be.

That said, it may be the harbinger of a good 2010 for the GOP. It's just best to not assume that this is a certainty.

Why is his name even ON a Corazine sign? It looks like Corazine is his veep.

Hell, that's an easy one. Corzine on his own was in serious trouble in NJ. LOTS of bad baggage over his first term.

The clear intent here, was to hitch him to Obama, on the theory that Obama is still a winning name. Yeah, he's weak, but The One will drag him to the finish line.

I really think that NJ would have elected a Democrat, had the candidate been somebody else. Corzine was far too weak to win, even with Obama's help.

from a few weeks ago:
Unsurprisingly, Michael Barone has an interesting and incisive roundup of numbers from last night that go deeper than the top-line results. Some nuggets:
  • Bergen County, New Jersey, a 56%-42% Corzine constituency in 2005, came within a point or two of voting for Christie.
  • Westchester County, New York, voted 58%-42% for a Republican county executive after voting almost exactly the opposite way, in a race involving the same two candidates, four years before.
  • The Virginia Board of Elections has results by CD showing that three Dems who captured seats in 2008 by very narrow margins (the 2nd, 5th, and 11th districts) saw their districts go to McDonnell by whopping margins (24 points, 22 points, and 10 points, respectively).
Barone believes this last fact will not be lost on those freshman Democrats.
